1 H alleluja! Danket dem HERRN; denn er ist freundlich, und seine Güte währet ewiglich.

Hallelujah! Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness for ever.

2 W er kann die großen Taten des HERRN ausreden und alle seine löblichen Werke preisen?

Who can utter the mighty acts of Jehovah? can shew forth all his praise?

3 W ohl denen, die das Gebot halten und tun immerdar recht!

Blessed are they that keep justice, he that doeth righteousness at all times.

4 H ERR, gedenke mein nach der Gnade, die du dem Volk verheißen hast; beweise uns deine Hilfe,

Remember me, O Jehovah, with favour toward thy people; visit me with thy salvation:

5 d aß wir sehen mögen die Wohlfahrt deiner Auserwählten und uns freuen, daß es deinem Volk wohl geht, und uns rühmen mit deinem Erbteil.

That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the joy of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

6 W ir haben gesündigt samt unsern Vätern; wir haben mißgehandelt und sind gottlos gewesen.

We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

7 U nsre Väter in Ägypten wollten deine Wunder nicht verstehen; sie gedachten nicht an deine große Güte und waren ungehorsam am Meer, am Schilfmeer.

Our fathers in Egypt considered not thy wondrous works; they remembered not the multitude of thy loving-kindnesses; but they rebelled at the sea, at the Red Sea.

8 E r half ihnen aber um seines Namens willen, daß er seine Macht bewiese.

Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his might.

9 U nd er schalt das Schilfmeer: da ward's trocken, und führte sie durch die Tiefen wie in einer Wüste

And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; and he led them through the deeps as through a wilderness.

10 u nd half ihnen von der Hand des, der sie haßte, und erlöste sie von der Hand des Feindes;

And he saved them from the hand of him that hated, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 u nd die Wasser ersäuften ihre Widersacher, daß nicht einer übrig blieb.

And the waters covered their oppressors: there was not one of them left.

12 D a glaubten sie an seine Worte und sangen sein Lob.

Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

13 A ber sie vergaßen bald seiner Werke; sie warteten nicht auf seinen Rat.

They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:

14 U nd sie wurden lüstern in der Wüste und versuchten Gott in der Einöde.

And they lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

15 E r aber gab ihnen ihre Bitte und sandte ihnen genug, bis ihnen davor ekelte.

Then he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.

16 U nd sie empörten sich wider Mose im Lager, wider Aaron, den Heiligen des HERRN.

And they envied Moses in the camp, Aaron, the saint of Jehovah.

17 D ie Erde tat sich auf und verschlang Dathan und deckte zu die Rotte Abirams,

The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram;

18 u nd Feuer ward unter ihrer Rotte angezündet, die Flamme verbrannte die Gottlosen.

And fire was kindled in their company; a flame burned up the wicked.

19 S ie machten ein Kalb am Horeb und beteten an das gegossene Bild

They made a calf in Horeb, and did homage to a molten image;

20 u nd verwandelten ihre Ehre in ein Gleichnis eines Ochsen, der Gras frißt.

And they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

21 S ie vergaßen Gottes, ihres Heilands, der so große Dinge in Ägypten getan hatte,

They forgot God their Saviour, who had done great things in Egypt,

22 W under im Lande Hams und schreckliche Werke am Schilfmeer.

Wondrous works in the land of Ham, terrible things by the Red Sea.

23 U nd er sprach, er wolle sie vertilgen, wo nicht Mose, sein Auserwählter, in den Riß getreten wäre vor ihm, seinen Grimm abzuwenden, auf daß er sie nicht gar verderbte.

And he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses, his chosen, stood before him in the breach, to turn away his fury, lest he should destroy.

24 u nd sie verachteten das liebe Land, sie glaubten seinem Wort nicht

And they despised the pleasant land; they believed not his word,

25 u nd murrten in ihren Hütten; sie gehorchten der Stimme des HERRN nicht.

But murmured in their tents: they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah.

26 U nd er hob auf seine Hand wider sie, daß er sie niederschlüge in der Wüste

And he lifted up his hand to them, that he would make them fall in the wilderness;

27 u nd würfe ihren Samen unter die Heiden und zerstreute sie in die Länder.

And that he would make their seed fall among the nations, and disperse them through the countries.

28 U nd sie hingen sich an den Baal-Peor und aßen von den Opfern der toten Götzen

And they joined themselves unto Baal-Peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead;

29 u nd erzürnten ihn mit ihrem Tun; da brach auch die Plage unter sie.

And they provoked to anger with their doings; and a plague broke out among them.

30 D a trat Pinehas herzu und schlichtete die Sache; da ward der Plage gesteuert.

Then stood up Phinehas and executed judgment, and the plague was stayed;

31 D as ward ihm gerechnet zur Gerechtigkeit für und für ewiglich.

And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, from generation to generation, for evermore.

32 U nd sie erzürnten ihn am Haderwasser, und Mose ging es übel um ihretwillen.

And they moved him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account;

33 D enn sie betrübten ihm sein Herz, daß ihm etliche Worte entfuhren.

For they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke unadvisedly with his lips.

34 A uch vertilgten sie die Völker nicht, wie sie doch der HERR geheißen hatte;

They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them;

35 s ondern sie mengten sich unter die Heiden und lernten derselben Werke

But they mingled with the nations, and learned their works;

36 u nd dienten ihren Götzen; die wurden ihnen zum Fallstrick.

And they served their idols; and they were a snare unto them:

37 U nd sie opferten ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter den Teufeln

And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,

38 u nd vergossen unschuldig Blut, das Blut ihrer Söhne und ihrer Töchter, die sie opferten den Götzen Kanaans, daß das Land mit Blutschulden befleckt ward;

And shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.

39 u nd verunreinigten sich mit ihren Werken und wurden abgöttisch mit ihrem Tun.

And they were defiled with their works, and went a-whoring in their doings.

40 D a ergrimmte der Zorn des HERRN über sein Volk, und er gewann einen Greuel an seinem Erbe

Then was the anger of Jehovah kindled against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance;

41 u nd gab sie in die Hände der Heiden, daß über sie herrschten, die ihnen gram waren.

And he gave them into the hand of the nations; and they that hated them ruled over them:

42 U nd ihre Feinde ängsteten sie; und sie wurden gedemütigt unter ihre Hände.

And their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 E r errettete sie oftmals; aber sie erzürnten ihn mit ihrem Vornehmen und wurden wenig um ihrer Missetat willen.

Often did he deliver them; but as for them they provoked by their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquity.

44 U nd er sah ihre Not an, da er ihre Klage hörte,

But he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry;

45 u nd gedachte an seinen Bund, den er mit ihnen gemacht hatte; und es reute ihn nach seiner großen Güte,

And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses;

46 u nd er ließ sie zur Barmherzigkeit kommen vor allen, die sie gefangen hatten.

And he caused them to find compassion of all those that had carried them captives.

47 H ilf uns, HERR, unser Gott, und bringe uns zusammen aus den Heiden, daß wir danken deinem heiligen Namen und rühmen dein Lob.

Save us, Jehovah our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks unto thy holy name, to triumph in thy praise.

48 G elobet sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit, und alles Volk spreche: Amen, halleluja!

Blessed be Jehovah the God of Israel, from eternity and to eternity! And let all the people say, Amen! Hallelujah!
