1 D a er aber das Volk sah, ging er auf einen Berg und setzte sich; und seine Jünger traten zu ihm,

But seeing the crowds, he went up into the mountain, and having sat down, his disciples came to him;

2 U nd er tat seinen Mund auf, lehrte sie und sprach:

and, having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying,

3 S elig sind, die da geistlich arm sind; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

Blessed the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

4 S elig sind, die da Leid tragen; denn sie sollen getröstet werden.

Blessed they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 S elig sind die Sanftmütigen; denn sie werden das Erdreich besitzen.

Blessed the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 S elig sind, die da hungert und dürstet nach der Gerechtigkeit; denn sie sollen satt werden.

Blessed they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

7 S elig sind die Barmherzigen; denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erlangen.

Blessed the merciful, for they shall find mercy.

8 S elig sind, die reines Herzens sind; denn sie werden Gott schauen.

Blessed the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 S elig sind die Friedfertigen; denn sie werden Gottes Kinder heißen.

Blessed the peace-makers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10 S elig sind, die um Gerechtigkeit willen verfolgt werden; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

Blessed they who are persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

11 S elig seid ihr, wenn euch die Menschen um meinetwillen schmähen und verfolgen und reden allerlei Übles gegen euch, so sie daran lügen.

Blessed are ye when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake.

12 S eid fröhlich und getrost; es wird euch im Himmel wohl belohnt werden. Denn also haben sie verfolgt die Propheten, die vor euch gewesen sind.

Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for thus have they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 I hr seid das Salz der Erde. Wo nun das Salz dumm wird, womit soll man's salzen? Es ist hinfort zu nichts nütze, denn das man es hinausschütte und lasse es die Leute zertreten.

Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have become insipid, wherewith shall it be salted? It is no longer fit for anything but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot by men.

14 I hr seid das Licht der Welt. Es kann die Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, nicht verborgen sein.

Ye are the light of the world: a city situated on the top of a mountain cannot be hid.

15 M an zündet auch nicht ein Licht an und setzt es unter einen Scheffel, sondern auf einen Leuchter; so leuchtet es denn allen, die im Hause sind.

Nor do light a lamp and put it under the bushel, but upon the lamp-stand, and it shines for all who are in the house.

16 A lso laßt euer Licht leuchten vor den Leuten, daß sie eure guten Werke sehen und euren Vater im Himmel preisen.

Let your light thus shine before men, so that they may see your upright works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

17 I hr sollt nicht wähnen, daß ich gekommen bin, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzulösen; ich bin nicht gekommen, aufzulösen, sondern zu erfüllen.

Think not that I am come to make void the law or the prophets; I am not come to make void, but to fulfil.

18 D enn ich sage euch wahrlich: Bis daß Himmel und Erde zergehe, wird nicht zergehen der kleinste Buchstabe noch ein Tüttel vom Gesetz, bis daß es alles geschehe.

For verily I say unto you, Until the heaven and the earth pass away, one iota or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all come to pass.

19 W er nun eines von diesen kleinsten Geboten auflöst und lehrt die Leute also, der wird der Kleinste heißen im Himmelreich; wer es aber tut und lehrt, der wird groß heißen im Himmelreich.

Whosoever then shall do away with one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall practise and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.

20 D enn ich sage euch: Es sei denn eure Gerechtigkeit besser als der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, so werdet ihr nicht in das Himmelreich kommen.

For I say unto you, that unless your righteousness surpass of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

21 I hr habt gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: "Du sollst nicht töten; wer aber tötet, der soll des Gerichts schuldig sein."

Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; but whosoever shall kill shall be subject to the judgment.

22 I ch aber sage euch: Wer mit seinem Bruder zürnet, der ist des Gerichts schuldig; wer aber zu seinem Bruder sagt: Racha! der ist des Rats schuldig; wer aber sagt: Du Narr! der ist des höllischen Feuers schuldig.

But I say unto you, that every one that is lightly angry with his brother shall be subject to the judgment; but whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be subject to the sanhedrim; but whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be subject to the penalty of the hell of fire.

23 D arum, wenn du deine Gabe auf dem Altar opferst und wirst allda eingedenk, daß dein Bruder etwas wider dich habe,

If therefore thou shouldest offer thy gift at the altar, and there shouldest remember that thy brother has something against thee,

24 s o laß allda vor dem Altar deine Gabe und gehe zuvor hin und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder, und alsdann komm und opfere deine Gabe.

leave there thy gift before the altar, and first go, be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 S ei willfährig deinem Widersacher bald, dieweil du noch bei ihm auf dem Wege bist, auf daß dich der Widersacher nicht dermaleinst überantworte dem Richter, und der Richter überantworte dich dem Diener, und wirst in den Kerker geworfen.

Make friends with thine adverse party quickly, whilst thou art in the way with him; lest some time the adverse party deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 I ch sage dir wahrlich: Du wirst nicht von dannen herauskommen, bis du auch den letzten Heller bezahlest.

Verily I say to thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out thence till thou hast paid the last farthing.

27 I hr habt gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen."

Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery.

28 I ch aber sage euch: Wer ein Weib ansieht, ihrer zu begehren, der hat schon mit ihr die Ehe gebrochen in seinem Herzen.

But I say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29 Ä rgert dich aber dein rechtes Auge, so reiß es aus und wirf's von dir. Es ist dir besser, daß eins deiner Glieder verderbe, und nicht der ganze Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde.

But if thy right eye be a snare to thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

30 Ä rgert dich deine rechte Hand, so haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir. Es ist dir besser, daß eins deiner Glieder verderbe, und nicht der ganze Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde.

And if thy right hand be a snare to thee, cut it off and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

31 E s ist auch gesagt: "Wer sich von seinem Weibe scheidet, der soll ihr geben einen Scheidebrief."

It has been said too, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a letter of divorce.

32 I ch aber sage euch: Wer sich von seinem Weibe scheidet (es sei denn um Ehebruch), der macht, daß sie die Ehe bricht; und wer eine Abgeschiedene freit, der bricht die Ehe.

But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery, and whosoever marries one that is put away commits adultery.

33 I hr habt weiter gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: "Du sollst keinen falschen Eid tun und sollst Gott deinen Eid halten."

Again, ye have heard that it has been said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt render to the Lord what thou hast sworn.

34 I ch aber sage euch, daß ihr überhaupt nicht schwören sollt, weder bei dem Himmel, denn er ist Gottes Stuhl,

But I say unto you, Do not swear at all; neither by the heaven, because it is throne of God;

35 n och bei der Erde, denn sie ist seiner Füße Schemel, noch bei Jerusalem, denn sie ist des großen Königs Stadt.

nor by the earth, because it is footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is city of the great King.

36 A uch sollst du nicht bei deinem Haupt schwören, denn du vermagst nicht ein einziges Haar schwarz oder weiß zu machen.

Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 E ure Rede aber sei: Ja, ja; nein, nein. Was darüber ist, das ist vom Übel.

But let your word be Yea, yea; Nay, nay; but what is more than these is from evil.

38 I hr habt gehört, daß da gesagt ist: "Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn."

Ye have heard that it has been said, Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.

39 I ch aber sage euch, daß ihr nicht widerstreben sollt dem Übel; sondern, so dir jemand einen Streich gibt auf deinen rechten Backen, dem biete den andern auch dar.

But I say unto you, not to resist evil; but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;

40 U nd so jemand mit dir rechten will und deinen Rock nehmen, dem laß auch den Mantel.

and to him that would go to law with thee and take thy body coat, leave him thy cloak also.

41 U nd so dich jemand nötigt eine Meile, so gehe mit ihm zwei.

And whoever will compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.

42 G ib dem, der dich bittet, und wende dich nicht von dem, der dir abborgen will.

To him that asks of thee give, and from him that desires to borrow of thee turn not away.

43 I hr habt gehört, daß gesagt ist: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben und deinen Feind hassen."

Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.

44 I ch aber sage euch: Liebet eure Feinde; segnet, die euch fluchen; tut wohl denen, die euch hassen; bittet für die, so euch beleidigen und verfolgen,

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute you,

45 a uf daß ihr Kinder seid eures Vater im Himmel; denn er läßt seine Sonne aufgehen über die Bösen und über die Guten und läßt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.

that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heavens; for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and sends rain on just and unjust.

46 D enn so ihr liebet, die euch lieben, was werdet ihr für Lohn haben? Tun nicht dasselbe auch die Zöllner?

For if ye should love those who love you, what reward have ye? Do not also the tax-gatherers the same?

47 U nd so ihr euch nur zu euren Brüdern freundlich tut, was tut ihr Sonderliches? Tun nicht die Zöllner auch also?

And if ye should salute your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? Do not also the Gentiles the same?

48 D arum sollt ihr vollkommen sein, gleichwie euer Vater im Himmel vollkommen ist.

Be ye therefore perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
