1 B ehold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Смотрите, какую любовь дал нам Отец, чтобы нам называться и быть детьми Божиими. Мир потому не знает нас, что не познал Его.

2 B eloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Возлюбленные! мы теперь дети Божии; но еще не открылось, что будем. Знаем только, что, когда откроется, будем подобны Ему, потому что увидим Его, как Он есть.

3 A nd every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

И всякий, имеющий сию надежду на Него, очищает себя так, как Он чист.

4 W hosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Всякий, делающий грех, делает и беззаконие; и грех есть беззаконие.

5 A nd ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

И вы знаете, что Он явился для того, чтобы взять грехи наши, и что в Нем нет греха.

6 W hosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

Всякий, пребывающий в Нем, не согрешает; всякий согрешающий не видел Его и не познал Его.

7 L ittle children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Дети! да не обольщает вас никто. Кто делает правду, тот праведен, подобно как Он праведен.

8 H e that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Кто делает грех, тот от диавола, потому что сначала диавол согрешил. Для сего-то и явился Сын Божий, чтобы разрушить дела диавола.

9 W hosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Всякий, рожденный от Бога, не делает греха, потому что семя Его пребывает в нем; и он не может грешить, потому что рожден от Бога.

10 I n this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Дети Божии и дети диавола узнаются так: всякий, не делающий правды, не есть от Бога, равно и не любящий брата своего.

11 F or this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Ибо таково благовествование, которое вы слышали от начала, чтобы мы любили друг друга,

12 N ot as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

не так, как Каин, был от лукавого и убил брата своего. А за что убил его? За то, что дела его были злы, а дела брата его праведны.

13 M arvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

Не дивитесь, братия мои, если мир ненавидит вас.

14 W e know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Мы знаем, что мы перешли из смерти в жизнь, потому что любим братьев; не любящий брата пребывает в смерти.

15 W hosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Всякий, ненавидящий брата своего, есть человекоубийца; а вы знаете, что никакой человекоубийца не имеет жизни вечной, в нем пребывающей.

16 H ereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Любовь познали мы в том, что Он положил за нас душу Свою: и мы должны полагать души свои за братьев.

17 B ut whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

А кто имеет достаток в мире, но, видя брата своего в нужде, затворяет от него сердце свое, --как пребывает в том любовь Божия?

18 M y little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Дети мои! станем любить не словом или языком, но делом и истиною.

19 A nd hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

И вот по чему узнаём, что мы от истины, и успокаиваем пред Ним сердца наши;

20 F or if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

ибо если сердце наше осуждает нас, то, потому что Бог больше сердца нашего и знает всё.

21 B eloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

Возлюбленные! если сердце наше не осуждает нас, то мы имеем дерзновение к Богу,

22 A nd whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

и, чего ни попросим, получим от Него, потому что соблюдаем заповеди Его и делаем благоугодное пред Ним.

23 A nd this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

А заповедь Его та, чтобы мы веровали во имя Сына Его Иисуса Христа и любили друг друга, как Он заповедал нам.

24 A nd he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

И кто сохраняет заповеди Его, тот пребывает в Нем, и Он в том. А что Он пребывает в нас, узнаём по духу, который Он дал нам.
