1 B ut a certain man in Caesarea,—by name Cornelius, a centurion of the band called Italic,

Había en Cesarea un hombre llamado Cornelio, centurión de la cohorte llamada la Italiana,

2 p ious, and fearing God with all his house, giving much alms to the people, and supplicating God continually,

piadoso y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, que daba muchas limosnas al pueblo judío y oraba a Dios continuamente.

3 — saw plainly in a vision, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius.

Como a la hora novena del día, vio claramente en una visión a un ángel de Dios que entraba a donde él estaba y le decía: Cornelio.

4 B ut he, having fixed his eyes upon him, and become full of fear, said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Thy prayers and thine alms have gone up for a memorial before God.

Mirándolo fijamente y atemorizado, Cornelio dijo: ¿Qué quieres, Señor? Y él le dijo: Tus oraciones y limosnas han ascendido como memorial delante de Dios.

5 A nd now send men to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter.

Despacha ahora algunos hombres a Jope, y manda traer a un hombre llamado Simón, que también se llama Pedro.

6 H e lodges with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.

Este se hospeda con un curtidor llamado Simón, cuya casa está junto al mar.

7 A nd when the angel who was speaking to him had departed, having called two of his household and a pious soldier of those who were constantly with him,

Y después que el ángel que le hablaba se había ido, Cornelio llamó a dos de los criados y a un soldado piadoso de los que constantemente le servían,

8 a nd related all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

y después de explicarles todo, los envió a Jope. La visión de Pedro

9 A nd on the morrow, as these were journeying and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the house to pray, about the sixth hour.

Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea a orar como a la hora sexta.

10 A nd he became hungry and desired to eat. But as they were making ready an ecstasy came upon him:

Tuvo hambre y deseaba comer; pero mientras le preparaban algo de comer, le sobrevino un éxtasis;

11 a nd he beholds the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as a great sheet, by four corners let down to the earth;

y vio el cielo abierto y un objeto semejante a un gran lienzo que descendía, bajado a la tierra por las cuatro puntas;

12 i n which were all the quadrupeds and creeping things of the earth, and the fowls of the heaven.

había en él toda clase de cuadrúpedos y reptiles de la tierra, y aves del cielo.

13 A nd there was a voice to him, Rise, Peter, slay and eat.

Y oyó una voz: Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.

14 A nd Peter said, In no wise, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common or unclean.

Mas Pedro dijo: De ninguna manera, Señor, porque yo jamás he comido nada impuro o inmundo.

15 A nd a voice again the second time to him, What God has cleansed, do not thou make common.

De nuevo, por segunda vez, llegó a él una voz: Lo que Dios ha limpiado, no lo llames tú impuro.

16 A nd this took place thrice, and the vessel was straightway taken up into heaven.

Y esto sucedió tres veces, e inmediatamente el lienzo fue recogido al cielo. Los mensajeros de Cornelio

17 A nd as Peter doubted in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold also the men who were sent by Cornelius, having sought out the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

Mientras Pedro estaba perplejo pensando en lo que significaría la visión que había visto, he aquí, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, después de haber preguntado por la casa de Simón, aparecieron a la puerta;

18 a nd having called, they inquired if Simon who was surnamed Peter was lodged there.

y llamando, preguntaron si allí se hospedaba Simón, el que también se llamaba Pedro.

19 B ut as Peter continued pondering over the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men seek thee;

Y mientras Pedro meditaba sobre la visión, el Espíritu le dijo: Mira, tres hombres te buscan.

20 b ut rise up, go down, and go with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them.

Levántate, pues, desciende y no dudes en acompañarlos, porque yo los he enviado.

21 A nd Peter going down to the men said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause for which ye come?

Pedro descendió a donde estaban los hombres, y les dijo: He aquí, yo soy el que buscáis; ¿cuál es la causa por la que habéis venido?

22 A nd they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man, and fearing God, and borne witness to by the whole nation of the Jews, has been divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for thee to his house, and hear words from thee.

Y ellos dijeron: A Cornelio el centurión, un hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, y que es muy estimado por toda la nación de los judíos, le fue ordenado por un santo ángel que te hiciera venir a su casa para oír tus palabras.

23 H aving therefore invited them in, he lodged them. And on the morrow, rising up he went away with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him.

Entonces los invitó a entrar y los hospedó. Al día siguiente se levantó y fue con ellos, y algunos de los hermanos de Jope lo acompañaron. Pedro en casa de Cornelio

24 A nd on the morrow they came to Caesarea. But Cornelius was looking for them, having called together his kinsmen and intimate friends.

Al otro día entró en Cesarea. Cornelio los estaba esperando y había reunido a sus parientes y amigos íntimos.

25 A nd when Peter was now coming in, Cornelius met him, and falling down did homage.

Y sucedió que cuando Pedro iba a entrar, Cornelio salió a recibirlo, y postrándose a sus pies, lo adoró.

26 B ut Peter made him rise, saying, Rise up: I myself also am a man.

Mas Pedro lo levantó, diciendo: Ponte de pie; yo también soy hombre.

27 A nd he went in, talking with him, and found many gathered together.

Y conversando con él, entró y halló mucha gente reunida.

28 A nd he said to them, Ye know how it is unlawful for a Jew to be joined or come to one of a strange race, and to me God has shewn to call no man common or unclean.

Y les dijo: Vosotros sabéis cuán ilícito es para un judío asociarse con un extranjero o visitarlo, pero Dios me ha mostrado que a ningún hombre debo llamar impuro o inmundo;

29 W herefore also, having been sent for, I came without saying anything against it. I inquire therefore for what reason ye have sent for me.

por eso, cuando fui llamado, vine sin poner ninguna objeción. Pregunto, pues, ¿por qué causa me habéis enviado a llamar?

30 A nd Cornelius said, Four days ago I had been unto this hour, and the ninth praying in my house, and lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

Y Cornelio dijo: A esta misma hora, hace cuatro días, estaba yo orando en mi casa a la hora novena; y he aquí, un hombre con vestiduras resplandecientes, se puso delante de mí,

31 a nd said, Cornelius, thy prayer has been heard, and thy alms have come in remembrance before God.

y dijo: “Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída, y tus obras de caridad han sido recordadas delante de Dios.

32 S end therefore to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodges in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.

“Envía, pues, a Jope, y haz llamar a Simón, que también se llama Pedro; él está hospedado en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto al mar.”

33 I mmediately therefore I sent to thee, and thou hast well done in coming. Now therefore we are all present before God to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

Por tanto, envié por ti al instante, y has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí presentes delante de Dios, para oír todo lo que el Señor te ha mandado.

34 A nd Peter opening his mouth said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

Entonces Pedro, abriendo la boca, dijo: Ciertamente ahora entiendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,

35 b ut in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

sino que en toda nación el que le teme y hace lo justo, le es acepto.

36 T he word which he sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, (he is Lord of all things,)

El mensaje que El envió a los hijos de Israel, predicando paz por medio de Jesucristo, que El es Señor de todos;

37 y e know; the testimony which has spread through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached—

vosotros mismos sabéis lo que ocurrió en toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que Juan predicó.

38 J esus who of Nazareth: how God anointed him with Holy Spirit and with power; who went through doing good, and healing all that were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Vosotros sabéis cómo Dios ungió a Jesús de Nazaret con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, el cual anduvo haciendo bien y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo; porque Dios estaba con El.

39 W e also witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also slew, having hanged him on a cross.

Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en la tierra de los judíos y en Jerusalén. Y también le dieron muerte, colgándole en una cruz.

40 T his God raised up the third day and gave him to be openly seen,

A éste Dios le resucitó al tercer día e hizo que se manifestara,

41 n ot of all the people, but of witnesses who were chosen before of God, us who have eaten and drunk with him after he arose from among dead.

no a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que fueron escogidos de antemano por Dios, es decir, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con El después que resucitó de los muertos.

42 A nd he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he it is who was determinately appointed of God judge of living and dead.

Y nos mandó predicar al pueblo, y testificar con toda solemnidad que este Jesús es el que Dios ha designado como Juez de los vivos y de los muertos.

43 T o him all the prophets bear witness that every one that believes on him will receive through his name remission of sins.

De éste dan testimonio todos los profetas, de que por su nombre, todo el que cree en El recibe el perdón de los pecados. Los gentiles reciben el Espíritu Santo

44 W hile Peter was yet speaking these words the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were hearing the word.

Mientras Pedro aún hablaba estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que escuchaban el mensaje.

45 A nd the faithful of the circumcision were astonished, as many as came with Peter, that upon the nations also the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out:

Y todos los creyentes que eran de la circuncisión, que habían venido con Pedro, se quedaron asombrados, porque el don del Espíritu Santo había sido derramado también sobre los gentiles,

46 f or they heard them speaking with tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

pues les oían hablar en lenguas y exaltar a Dios. Entonces Pedro dijo:

47 C an any one forbid water that these should not be baptised, who have received the Holy Spirit as we also ?

¿Puede acaso alguien negar el agua para que sean bautizados éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que nosotros ?

48 A nd he commanded them to be baptised in the name of the Lord. Then they begged him to stay some days.

Y mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Entonces le pidieron que se quedara con ellos unos días.
