1 A nd Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying,

Y el Señor habló a Josué, diciendo:

2 S peak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint for yourselves the cities of refuge, whereof I spoke unto you through Moses,

Habla a los hijos de Israel, y diles: “ Designad las ciudades de refugio de las cuales os hablé por medio de Moisés,

3 t hat the slayer who unwittingly without intent smiteth any one mortally may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

para que huya allí el homicida que haya matado a cualquier persona sin intención y sin premeditación; ellas os servirán de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.

4 A nd he shall flee unto one of those cities and stand at the entrance of the city-gate, and shall declare his matter in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

“Huirá a una de estas ciudades, se presentará a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad y expondrá su caso a oídos de los ancianos de la ciudad; éstos lo llevarán con ellos dentro de la ciudad y le darán un lugar para que habite en medio de ellos.

5 A nd if the avenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; for he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not previously.

“Y si el vengador de la sangre lo persigue, ellos no entregarán al homicida en su mano, porque hirió a su prójimo sin premeditación y sin odiarlo de antemano.

6 A nd he shall dwell in that city, until he have stood before the assembly in judgment, until the death of the high-priest that shall be in those days; then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

“Y habitará en esa ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación, y hasta la muerte del que sea sumo sacerdote en aquellos días. Entonces el homicida volverá a su ciudad y a su casa, a la ciudad de donde huyó.”

7 A nd they hallowed Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba, that is, Hebron, in the hill-country of Judah.

Y ellos separaron a Cedes en Galilea, en la región montañosa de Neftalí, y a Siquem en la región montañosa de Efraín, y a Quiriat-arba, es decir, Hebrón, en la región montañosa de Judá.

8 A nd beyond the Jordan from Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness, in the plateau, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe of Manasseh.

Y más allá del Jordán, al oriente de Jericó, designaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, a Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basán, de la tribu de Manasés.

9 T hese were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever smiteth any one mortally without intent might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the assembly.

Estas fueron las ciudades designadas para todos los hijos de Israel y para el forastero que resida entre ellos, para que cualquiera que hubiera matado a cualquier persona sin intención, pudiera huir allí, y no muriera a mano del vengador de la sangre hasta que hubiera comparecido ante la congregación.
