1 A nd we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as Jehovah had said unto me; and we went round mount Seir many days.

Después nos volvimos y partimos hacia el desierto por el camino del mar Rojo, como el Señor me había mandado, y por muchos días dimos vuelta al monte Seir.

2 A nd Jehovah spoke to me, saying,

Y el Señor me habló, diciendo:

3 Y e have gone round this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

“Bastantes vueltas habéis dado ya alrededor de este monte. Volveos ahora hacia el norte,

4 A nd command the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; and ye shall be very guarded:

y da orden al pueblo, diciendo: ‘Vais a pasar por el territorio de vuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y os tendrán miedo. Así que tened mucho cuidado;

5 a ttack them not; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot-breadth; for I have given mount Seir as a possession unto Esau.

no los provoquéis, porque nada de su tierra os daré, ni siquiera la huella de un pie, porque a Esaú he dado el monte Seir por posesión.

6 Y e shall buy of them food for money, that ye may eat; and water shall ye also buy of them for money, that ye may drink;

‘Les compraréis con dinero los alimentos para comer, y también con dinero compraréis de ellos agua para beber.

7 f or Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand. He hath known thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years hath Jehovah thy God been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

‘Pues el Señor tu Dios te ha bendecido en todo lo que has hecho; El ha conocido tu peregrinar a través de este inmenso desierto. Por cuarenta años el Señor tu Dios ha estado contigo; nada te ha faltado.’” En camino de Cades a Zered

8 A nd we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, by the plain, by Elath, and by Ezion-geber, and we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

Pasamos, pues, de largo a nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, lejos del camino de Arabá, lejos de Elat y de Ezión-geber. Y nos volvimos, y pasamos por el camino del desierto de Moab.

9 A nd Jehovah said to me, Distress not the Moabites, neither engage with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land a possession; for unto the children of Lot have I given Ar as a possession.

Entonces el Señor me dijo: “No molestes a Moab, ni los provoques a la guerra, porque no te daré nada de su tierra por posesión, pues he dado Ar a los hijos de Lot por posesión.

10 ( The Emim dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall as the Anakim.

(Antes habitaron allí los emitas, un pueblo tan grande, numeroso y alto como los anaceos.

11 T hey also are reckoned as giants like the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.

Como los anaceos, ellos también son considerados gigantes, pero los moabitas los llaman emitas.

12 A nd in Seir dwelt the Horites in times past; and the children of Esau dispossessed them, and destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did to the land of their possession, which Jehovah gave to them.)

Los horeos habitaron antes en Seir, pero los hijos de Esaú los desalojaron y los destruyeron delante de ellos, y se establecieron en su lugar, tal como Israel hizo con la tierra que el Señor les dio en posesión.)

13 N ow rise up, and pass over the torrent Zered. And we passed over the torrent Zered.

“Levantaos ahora, y cruzad el torrente de Zered.” Y cruzamos el torrente de Zered.

14 N ow the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we had come over the torrent Zered, were thirty-eight years; until the whole generation of the men of war was consumed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah had sworn unto them.

Y el tiempo que nos llevó para venir de Cades-barnea, hasta que cruzamos el torrente de Zered, fue de treinta y ocho años; hasta que pereció toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campamento, como el Señor les había jurado.

15 M oreover the hand of Jehovah was against them to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

Además, la mano del Señor fue contra ellos, para destruirlos de en medio del campamento, hasta que todos perecieron.

16 A nd it came to pass when all the men of war were consumed, having died off from among the people,

Y aconteció que cuando todos los hombres de guerra habían ya perecido de entre el pueblo,

17 t hat Jehovah spoke to me, saying,

el Señor me habló, diciendo:

18 T hou art to pass this day over the border of Moab, Ar,

“Tú cruzarás hoy por Ar la frontera de Moab.

19 a nd come near over against the children of Ammon; thou shalt not distress them nor attack them; for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon a possession; for unto the children of Lot have I given it as a possession.

“Y cuando llegues frente a los hijos de Amón, no los molestes ni los provoques, porque no te daré nada de la tierra de los hijos de Amón en posesión, pues se la he dado a los hijos de Lot por heredad.”

20 ( That also is reckoned a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in time past, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim;

(Es también conocida como la tierra de los gigantes, porque antiguamente habitaban en ella gigantes, a los que los amonitas llaman zomzomeos,

21 a people great, and many, and tall as the Anakim; and Jehovah destroyed them before them, and they dispossessed them, and dwelt in their stead;

pueblo grande, numeroso y alto como los anaceos, pero que el Señor destruyó delante de ellos. Y los amonitas los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar,

22 a s he did to the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, from before whom he destroyed the Horites; and they dispossessed them, and dwelt in their stead, even to this day.

tal como Dios hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, cuando destruyó a los horeos delante de ellos; y ellos los desalojaron, y se establecieron en su lugar hasta hoy.

23 A nd the Avvites who dwelt in the hamlets as far as Gazah—the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

Y a los aveos que habitaban en aldeas hasta Gaza, los caftoreos, que salieron de Caftor, los destruyeron y se establecieron en su lugar.)

24 R ise up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon. Behold, I have given into thy hand Sihon the king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land: begin, take possession, and engage with him in battle.

“Levantaos; partid y pasad por el valle del Arnón. Mira, he entregado en tu mano a Sehón amorreo, rey de Hesbón, y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión y entra en batalla con él.

25 T his day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples under the whole heaven; who will hear report of thee, and will tremble, and quake because of thee.

“Hoy comenzaré a infundir el espanto y temor tuyo entre los pueblos debajo del cielo, quienes, al oír tu fama, temblarán y se angustiarán a causa de ti.” Conquista de Sehón

26 A nd I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon the king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

Entonces envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademot a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciendo:

27 L et me pass through thy land: by the highway alone will I go; I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left.

“Déjame pasar por tu tierra; iré solamente por el camino, sin apartarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

28 T hou shalt sell me food for money that I may eat; and thou shalt give me water for money that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet,

“Me venderás comestibles por dinero para que yo pueda comer, y me darás agua por dinero para que pueda beber; déjame tan sólo pasar a pie,

29 — as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me,—until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Jehovah our God giveth us.

tal como hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y los moabitas que habitan en Ar, hasta que cruce el Jordán a la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da.”

30 B ut Sihon the king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Jehovah thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obdurate, that he might give him into thy hand, as it is this day.

Pero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso dejarnos pasar por su tierra porque el Señor tu Dios endureció su espíritu e hizo obstinado su corazón, a fin de entregarlo en tus manos, como lo está hoy.

31 A nd Jehovah said to me, Behold, I begin to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin, take possession, that thou mayest possess his land.

Y el Señor me dijo: “Mira, he comenzado a entregar a Sehón y su tierra en tus manos. Comienza a ocupar la para que poseas la tierra.”

32 A nd Sihon came out against us for battle, he and all his people, to Jahaz.

Entonces Sehón salió con todo su pueblo a encontrarnos en batalla en Jahaza.

33 B ut Jehovah our God gave him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and his whole people.

Y el Señor nuestro Dios lo entregó a nosotros; y lo derrotamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.

34 A nd we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every city, men, and women, and little ones: we let none escape.

En aquel tiempo tomamos todas sus ciudades, y exterminamos a hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad. No dejamos ningún sobreviviente.

35 O nly the cattle we took as booty for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

Tomamos solamente como nuestro botín los animales y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos capturado.

36 F rom Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the ravine even to Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: Jehovah our God delivered all before us.

Desde Aroer, que está a la orilla del valle del Arnón, y desde la ciudad que está en el valle, aun hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad inaccesible para nosotros; el Señor nuestro Dios nos las entregó todas.

37 O nly thou didst not approach the land of the children of Ammon, the whole border of the river Jabbok, nor the cities of the mountain, nor to whatsoever Jehovah our God had forbidden us.

Solamente no te acercaste a la tierra de los hijos de Amón, a todo lo largo del arroyo Jaboc, ni a las ciudades del monte, todo lo que el Señor nuestro Dios había prohibido.
