1 A nd the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

Los filisteos pelearon contra Israel y los hombres de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

2 A nd the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

Los filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 A nd the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him; and he was much terrified by the archers.

Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, los arqueros lo alcanzaron y fue gravemente herido por ellos.

4 T hen said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.

Entonces Saúl dijo a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y me traspasen y hagan burla de mí. Pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Por lo cual Saúl tomó su espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 A nd when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him.

Al ver su escudero que Saúl había muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y murió con él.

6 S o Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour-bearer, and all his men, that same day together.

Así murió Saúl aquel día, junto con sus tres hijos, su escudero y todos sus hombres.

7 A nd when the men of Israel that were on this side of the valley, and that were on this side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Cuando los hombres de Israel que estaban al otro lado del valle, con los que estaban más allá del Jordán, vieron que los hombres de Israel habían huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron las ciudades y huyeron; entonces vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.

8 A nd it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

Y sucedió que al día siguiente, cuando vinieron los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.

9 A nd they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings in the houses of their idols, and to the people.

Le cortaron la cabeza y lo despojaron de sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos, para que llevaran las buenas nuevas a la casa de sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 A nd they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

Pusieron sus armas en el templo de Astarot, y ataron su cuerpo al muro de Bet-sán.

11 A nd when the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead heard of what the Philistines had done to Saul,

Cuando oyeron los habitantes de Jabes de Galaad lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

12 a ll the valiant men arose and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burned them there.

se levantaron todos los hombres valientes, y caminando toda la noche, tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán, y volviendo a Jabes, los quemaron allí.

13 A nd they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

Y tomando sus huesos, los enterraron debajo del tamarisco en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.
