1 A nd Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

Después su suegra Noemí le dijo: Hija mía, ¿no he de buscar seguridad para ti, para que te vaya bien?

2 A nd now, is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he is winnowing barley in the threshing-floor to-night.

Ahora pues, ¿no es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas criadas estabas? He aquí, él avienta cebada en la era esta noche.

3 W ash thyself therefore, and anoint thyself, and put thy raiment upon thee, and go down to the floor; make not thyself known to the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

Lávate, pues, úngete y ponte tu mejor vestido y baja a la era; pero no te des a conocer al hombre hasta que haya acabado de comer y beber.

4 A nd it shall be, when he lies down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall have lain down, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thyself down; and he will shew thee what thou shalt do.

Y sucederá que cuando él se acueste, notarás el lugar donde se acuesta; irás, descubrirás sus pies y te acostarás; entonces él te dirá lo que debes hacer.

5 A nd she said to her, All that thou sayest will I do.

Y ella le respondió: Todo lo que me dices, haré.

6 A nd she went down to the floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law had bidden her.

Descendió, pues, a la era e hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.

7 A nd Boaz ate and drank, and his heart was merry, and he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn. Then she went softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid herself down.

Cuando Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estaba contento, fue a acostarse al pie del montón de grano; y ella vino calladamente, descubrió sus pies y se acostó.

8 A nd it came to pass at midnight, that the man was startled, and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.

Y sucedió que a medianoche el hombre se asustó, se volvió, y he aquí que una mujer estaba acostada a sus pies.

9 A nd he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth, thy handmaid: spread thy skirt over thy handmaid; for thou hast the right of redemption.

Y él dijo: ¿Quién eres? Y ella respondió: Soy Rut, tu sierva. Extiende, pues, tu manto sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.

10 A nd he said, Blessed be thou of Jehovah, my daughter! Thou hast shewn more kindness at the end than at the first, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

Entonces él dijo: Bendita seas del Señor, hija mía. Has hecho tu última bondad mejor que la primera, al no ir en pos de los jóvenes, ya sean pobres o ricos.

11 A nd now, my daughter, fear not: all that thou sayest will I do to thee; for all the gate of my people knows that thou art a woman of worth.

Ahora hija mía, no temas. Haré por ti todo lo que me pidas, pues todo mi pueblo en la ciudad sabe que eres una mujer virtuosa.

12 A nd now, truly I am one that has the right of redemption, yet there is one that has the right of redemption who is nearer than I.

Ahora bien, es verdad que soy pariente cercano, pero hay un pariente más cercano que yo.

13 S tay over to-night, and it shall be in the morning, if he will redeem thee, well—let him redeem; but if he like not to redeem thee, then will I redeem thee, Jehovah liveth. Lie down until the morning.

Quédate esta noche, y cuando venga la mañana, si él quiere redimirte, bien, que te redima. Pero si no quiere redimirte, entonces yo te redimiré, vive el Señor. Acuéstate hasta la mañana.

14 A nd she lay at his feet until the morning; and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the threshing-floor.

Y ella se acostó a sus pies hasta la mañana, y se levantó antes que una persona pudiera reconocer a otra; y él dijo: Que no se sepa que ha venido mujer a la era.

15 A nd he said, Bring the cloak that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And she held it, and he measured six of barley, and laid on her; and he went into the city.

Dijo además: Dame el manto que tienes puesto y sujétalo. Y ella lo sujetó, y él midió seis medidas de cebada y se las puso encima. Entonces ella entró en la ciudad.

16 A nd she came to her mother-in-law; and she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

Cuando llegó a donde estaba su suegra, ésta dijo: ¿Cómo te fue, hija mía? Y le contó todo lo que el hombre había hecho por ella.

17 A nd she said, These six of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty to thy mother-in-law.

Y dijo: Me dio estas seis medidas de cebada, pues dijo: “No vayas a tu suegra con las manos vacías.”

18 T hen she said, Be still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest until he have completed the matter this day.

Entonces Noemí dijo: Espera, hija mía, hasta que sepas cómo se resolverá el asunto; porque el hombre no descansará hasta que lo haya arreglado hoy.
