Preghiera di Davide. Porgi orecchio, Signore, e rispondimi, perché io sono povero e bisognoso.

2 K eep my soul, for I am godly; O thou my God, save thy servant who confideth in thee.

Proteggi l’anima mia, perché ti amo. Dio mio, salva il tuo servo che confida in te!

3 B e gracious unto me, O Lord; for unto thee do I call all the day.

Abbi pietà di me, Signore, perché io grido a te tutto il giorno.

4 R ejoice the soul of thy servant; for unto thee, Lord, do I lift up my soul.

Rallegra l’anima del tuo servo, perché a te, Signore, io elevo l’anima mia.

5 F or thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and art of great loving-kindness unto all that call upon thee.

Poiché tu, o Signore, sei buono, pronto a perdonare e misericordioso verso quanti t’invocano.

6 G ive ear, O Jehovah, unto my prayer, and attend to the voice of my supplications.

Porgi orecchio, Signore, alla mia preghiera e sii attento alla voce delle mie suppliche.

7 I n the day of my distress I will call upon thee, for thou wilt answer me.

Io t’invoco nel giorno della mia angustia, perché tu mi risponderai.

8 A mong the gods there is none like unto thee, Lord, and there is nothing like unto thy works.

Non c’è nessuno pari a te fra gli dèi, o Signore, e non ci sono opere pari alle tue.

9 A ll nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy name.

Tutte le nazioni che hai fatte verranno a prostrarsi davanti a te, Signore, e glorificheranno il tuo nome.

10 F or thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God, thou alone.

Poiché tu sei grande e operi meraviglie; tu solo sei Dio.

11 T each me thy way, Jehovah; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

O Signore, insegnami la tua via; io camminerò nella tua verità; unisci il mio cuore al timore del tuo nome.

12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with my whole heart; and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

Io ti loderò, Signore, Dio mio, con tutto il mio cuore e glorificherò il tuo nome in eterno,

13 F or great is thy loving-kindness toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol.

perché grande è la tua bontà verso di me; tu hai salvato l’anima mia dal soggiorno dei morti.

14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assembly of the violent seek after my soul, and they have not set thee before them.

O Dio, gente superba è insorta contro di me e una banda di violenti cerca l’anima mia e non pongono te davanti agli occhi loro.

15 B ut thou, Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth.

Ma tu, Signore, sei un Dio pietoso e misericordioso, lento all’ira e grande in bontà e in verità.

16 T urn toward me, and be gracious unto me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.

Volgiti a me e abbi pietà di me; da’ la tua forza al tuo servo e salva il figlio della tua serva.

17 S hew me a token for good, that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed; for thou, Jehovah, hast helped me and comforted me.

Mostrami un segno del tuo favore! Così quelli che mi odiano si vergogneranno, vedendo che tu, Signore, mi soccorri e mi consoli.
