1 a nd you, being dead in your offences and sins—

Dio ha vivificato anche voi, voi che eravate morti nelle vostre colpe e nei vostri peccati,

2 i n which ye once walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience:

ai quali un tempo vi abbandonaste seguendo l’andazzo di questo mondo, seguendo il principe della potenza dell’aria, di quello spirito che opera oggi negli uomini ribelli.

3 a mong whom we also all once had our conversation in the lusts of our flesh, doing what the flesh and the thoughts willed to do, and were children, by nature, of wrath, even as the rest:

Nel numero dei quali anche noi tutti vivevamo un tempo, secondo i desideri della nostra carne, ubbidendo alle voglie della carne e dei nostri pensieri; ed eravamo per natura figli d’ira, come gli altri.

4 b ut God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love wherewith he loved us,

Ma Dio, che è ricco in misericordia, per il grande amore con cui ci ha amati,

5 ( we too being dead in offences,) has quickened us with the Christ, (ye are saved by grace,)

anche quando eravamo morti nei peccati, ci ha vivificati con Cristo (è per grazia che siete stati salvati),

6 a nd has raised up together, and has made sit down together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,

e ci ha risuscitati con lui e con lui ci ha fatti sedere nei luoghi celesti in Cristo Gesù,

7 t hat he might display in the coming ages the surpassing riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus.

8 F or ye are saved by grace, through faith; and this not of yourselves; it is God's gift:

Infatti è per grazia che siete stati salvati, mediante la fede; e ciò non viene da voi: è il dono di Dio.

9 n ot on the principle of works, that no one might boast.

Non è in virtù di opere affinché nessuno se ne vanti;

10 F or we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has before prepared that we should walk in them.

infatti siamo opera sua, essendo stati creati in Cristo Gesù per fare le opere buone, che Dio ha precedentemente preparate affinché le pratichiamo. Giudei e stranieri uniti in Cristo

11 W herefore remember that ye, once nations in flesh, who called uncircumcision by that called circumcision in flesh done with the hand;

Perciò, ricordatevi che un tempo voi, stranieri di nascita, chiamati incirconcisi da quelli che si dicono circoncisi, perché tali sono nella carne per mano d’uomo, voi, dico,

12 t hat ye were at that time without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

ricordatevi che in quel tempo eravate senza Cristo, esclusi dalla cittadinanza d’Israele ed estranei ai patti della promessa, senza speranza e senza Dio nel mondo.

13 b ut now in Christ Jesus ye who once were afar off are become nigh by the blood of the Christ.

Ma ora, in Cristo Gesù, voi che allora eravate lontani siete stati avvicinati mediante il sangue di Cristo.

14 F or he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of enclosure,

Lui, infatti, è la nostra pace; lui, che dei due popoli ne ha fatto uno solo e ha abbattuto il muro di separazione, abolendo nel suo corpo terreno la causa dell’inimicizia,

15 h aving annulled the enmity in his flesh, the law of commandments in ordinances, that he might form the two in himself into one new man, making peace;

la legge fatta di comandamenti in forma di precetti, per creare in se stesso, dei due, un solo uomo nuovo facendo la pace;

16 a nd might reconcile both in one body to God by the cross, having by it slain the enmity;

e per riconciliarli tutti e due con Dio in un corpo unico mediante la croce, sulla quale fece morire l’inimicizia.

17 a nd, coming, he has preached the glad tidings of peace to you who afar off, and peace to those nigh.

Con la sua venuta ha annunciato la pace a voi che eravate lontani e la pace a quelli che erano vicini;

18 F or through him we have both access by one Spirit to the Father.

perché per mezzo di lui abbiamo gli uni e gli altri accesso al Padre in un medesimo Spirito.

19 S o then ye are no longer strangers and foreigners, but ye are fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God,

Così dunque non siete più né stranieri né ospiti; ma siete concittadini dei santi e membri della famiglia di Dio.

20 b eing built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the corner-stone,

Siete stati edificati sul fondamento degli apostoli e dei profeti, essendo Cristo Gesù stesso la pietra angolare,

21 i n whom all building fitted together increases to a holy temple in the Lord;

sulla quale l’edificio intero, ben collegato insieme, si va innalzando per essere un tempio santo nel Signore.

22 i n whom ye also are built together for a habitation of God in Spirit.

In lui voi pure entrate a far parte dell’edificio che ha da servire come dimora a Dio per mezzo dello Spirito.
