1 R emember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

2 w hile the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

3 i n the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

когато стражите на къщата ще треперят и силните мъже ще се прегърбят, и онези, които мелят, ще престанат, защото намаляха, и на онези, които гледат през прозорците, ще се стъмни;

4 a nd the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

5 a lso when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

още когато ще се боят от всичко, което е високо, и ще треперят в пътя; когато бадемът разцъфти и скакалецът натегне, и всяко желание изчезне; защото човек отива във вечния си дом и жалеещите обикалят улиците;

6 o r ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

преди да се скъса сребърната верижка и да се счупи златната чаша или се строши стомната при извора, или се счупи колелото над кладенеца

7 T hen shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

и се върне пръстта в земята, както е била, и духът се върне при Бога, Който го е дал.

8 V anity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

Суета на суетите, казва проповедникът, всичко е суета. Заключение: живот в светлината на вечността

9 A nd moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

И колкото по-мъдър ставаше проповедникът, толкова повече поучаваше хората на знание; а най-вече измисляше и издирваше, и нареждаше много притчи.

10 T he preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

Проповедникът се стараеше да намери угодни думи и това, което беше с правота написано, думи на истина.

11 T he words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

Думите на мъдрите са като остени; и като заковани гвоздеи са думите на събирачите на изреченията, дадени от единия пастир.

12 A nd further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

А колкото за нещо повече от това, сине мой, приеми увещание, че правене на много книги няма край и много четене е труд на плътта.

13 L et us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Нека чуем края на цялото слово: Бой се от Бога и пази заповедите Му, понеже това е всичко за човека.

14 F or God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Защото относно всяко скрито нещо Бог ще докара на съд всяко дело, било то добро или зло.
