1 A nd king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

А вместо Йехония, Йоакимовия син, се възцари цар Седекия, Йосиевият син, когото вавилонският цар Навуходоносор постави за цар в Юдейската земя.

2 B ut neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

Но нито той, нито слугите му, нито народът на земята послушаха думите на Господа, които Той говори чрез пророк Йеремия.

3 A nd Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.

Цар Седекия изпрати Еухал, Селемиевия син, и Софония, син на свещеник Маасия, при пророк Йеремия да кажат: Моля, помоли се за нас на Господа, нашия Бог.

4 N ow Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

Защото Йеремия още влизаше и излизаше между народа, понеже не бяха го затворили в тъмница.

5 T hen Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

Фараоновата войска излезе от Египет; и когато халдейците, които обсаждаха Йерусалим, чуха това известие за тях, се оттеглиха от Йерусалим.

6 T hen came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

Тогава Господнето слово дойде към пророк Йеремия и каза:

7 T hus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

Така казва Господ, Израелевият Бог: По този начин да говорите на Юдейския цар, който ви прати при Мене да се допитате до Мен: Ето, фараоновата войска, която излезе да ви помага, ще се върне в земята си Египет.

8 A nd the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

Халдейците пак ще дойдат и ще воюват против този град, ще го превземат и ще го изгорят с огън.

9 T hus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

Така казва Господ: Не се мамете да казвате: Халдейците непременно ще се оттеглят от нас; понеже те няма да се оттеглят.

10 F or though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

Защото даже ако поразите цялата войска на халдейците, които воюват против вас, и оцелеят от тях само някои ранени, пак те ще станат всеки от шатъра си и ще изгорят този град с огън.

11 A nd it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

И когато войската на халдейците се беше оттеглила от Йерусалим поради страха от фараоновата войска,

12 t hen Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

тогава Йеремия излезе от Йерусалим, за да отиде във Вениаминовата земя и да вземе там дела си заедно с другите хора.

13 A nd when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

И когато той беше при Вениаминовата порта, там се намираше началникът на стражата, чието име беше Ирия, син на Селемия, Ананиевия син; той хвана пророк Йеремия и каза: Ти бягаш при халдейците.

14 T hen said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

А Йеремия отговори: Лъжа е; аз не бягам при халдейците. Но Ирия не го послуша, а хвана Йеремия и го заведе при първенците.

15 W herefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

Тогава първенците се разгневиха на Йеремия и го биха, и го затвориха в тъмница в къщата на писаря Йонатан, защото нея бяха направили на тъмница.

16 W hen Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

След като Йеремия беше влязъл в подземната тъмница и в избите и беше седял там много дни,

17 t hen Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord ? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

тогава цар Седекия прати да го доведат. Царят го попита скришно в двореца си: Има ли слово от Господа? А Йеремия отвърна: Има. И добави: Ти ще бъдеш предаден в ръката на вавилонския цар.

18 M oreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

При това Йеремия каза на цар Седекия: Какво съм съгрешил пред теб или слугите ти, или пред този народ, че ме хвърлиха в тъмница?

19 W here are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

Къде са сега вашите пророци, които пророкуваха: Вавилонският цар няма да дойде против вас или против тази земя?

20 T herefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

Затова слушай сега, моля, господарю мой, царю, нека бъде приета, моля, молбата ми пред тебе да не ме накараш да се върна в къщата на писаря Йонатан, за да не умра там.

21 T hen Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

Тогава цар Седекия заповяда и предадоха Йеремия да бъде пазен в двора на стражата, и му даваха всеки ден по един хляб от улицата на хлебарите, докато се свърши всичкият хляб на града. И така Йеремия седеше в двора на стражата.
