1 N ow it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

А Санавалат, Товия, арабинът Гисам и останалите от неприятелите ни, като чуха, че съм бил изградил стената и че не останало вече пролом в нея, ако и да не бях поставил врати на портите до онова време,

2 t hat Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

Санавалат и Гисам пратиха до мене да кажат: Ела, нека се срещнем в едно от селата на Оновото поле. Но те възнамеряваха да ми сторят зло.

3 A nd I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

Аз им пратих хора да кажат: Голяма работа върша и не мога да сляза; защо да се спира работата, като я оставя и сляза при вас?

4 Y et they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

И пращаха до мене четири пъти по същия начин; но аз им отговарях все така.

5 T hen sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;

Тогава за пети път Санавалат прати слугата си до мене по същия начин с отворено писмо в ръката му,

6 w herein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

в което беше писано: Носи се слух между народите, пък и Гисам казва, че ти и юдеите мислите да се надигнете, поради която причина ти и градиш стената; и според тези думи ти искаш да им станеш цар.

7 A nd thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

Назначил си още и пророци да разгласяват за тебе в Йерусалим, като казват: Цар има в Юдея. И сега ще бъде известено на царя според тези думи. И така, ела сега и нека се съветваме заедно.

8 T hen I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.

Тогава пратих до него хора да кажат: Няма такова нещо, каквото ти казваш; а ти си измисляш от себе си.

9 F or they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Защото те всички искаха да ни плашат, като казваха: Ръцете им ще отслабнат от работата и няма да я свършат. А сега, о Боже, подкрепи Ти ръцете ми.

10 A fterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

Тогава аз отидох в къщата на Семая, син на Делайя, Метавеиловия син, който беше затворен; и той ми каза: Нека се срещнем в Божия дом, сред храма, и нека затворим вратите на храма; защото тези идват да те убият, да! Тази нощ ще дойдат да те убият.

11 A nd I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

Но аз отговорих: Човек като мене бива ли да бяга? И кой човек като мене би влязъл в храма, за да избави живота си? Не искам да вляза.

12 A nd, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

И познах, че, ето, Бог не беше го пратил; но той от себе си произнесе това пророчество против мен и Товия и Санавалат го бяха подкупили.

13 T herefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

С тази цел беше подкупен - да се уплаша, за да направя така и да съгреша, и те да имат причина да злословят, за да ме укорят.

14 M y God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

Спомнѝ си, Боже мой, за Товия и Санавалат според тези техни дела, още и за пророчицата Ноадия и за другите пророци, които искаха да ме плащат. Завършване на стената

15 S o the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

Така стената бе завършена на двадесет и петия ден от месец Елул за петдесет и два дни.

16 A nd it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

И когато чуха това всичките ни неприятели, тогава всички езичници около нас се уплашиха и много се снишиха пред своите очи, защото познаха, че това дело стана от нашия Бог.

17 M oreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.

При това в онези дни Юдовите благородни пращаха често писма до Товия и писма от Товия идваха до тях.

18 F or there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

Защото в Юдея имаше мнозина, които се бяха заклели да му бъдат верни, понеже беше зет на Сехания, Араховия син, и синът му Йоанан беше взел за жена дъщерята на Месулам, Варахиевия син.

19 A lso they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

Също така приказваха пред мене за неговите благодеяния, а моите думи донасяха на него. И Товия пращаше писма, за да ме уплаши.
