1 M uy de mañana, los principales sacerdotes prepararon enseguida una reunión con los ancianos, los escribas y todo el Concilio (Sanedrín); y atando a Jesús, Lo llevaron y Lo entregaron a Pilato.
Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, immediately held a consultation; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.
2 “ ¿Eres Tú el Rey de los Judíos?” le preguntó Pilato. “Tú lo dices,” respondió Jesús
Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him, “ It is as you say.”
3 Y los principales sacerdotes Lo acusaban de muchas cosas.
The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly.
4 D e nuevo Pilato Le preguntó: “¿No respondes nada? Mira de cuántas cosas Te acusan.”
Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!”
5 P ero Jesús no respondió nada más; de modo que Pilato estaba asombrado. Jesús o Barrabás
But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.
6 A hora bien, en cada fiesta Pilato acostumbraba soltarles un preso, el que ellos pidieran.
Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested.
7 Y uno llamado Barrabás había sido encarcelado con los rebeldes que habían cometido homicidio en la insurrección.
The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.
8 C uando la multitud subió, comenzó a pedirle a Pilato que hiciera como siempre les había hecho.
The crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them.
9 E ntonces Pilato les preguntó: “¿Quieren que les suelte al Rey de los Judíos?”
Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”
10 P orque sabía que los principales sacerdotes Lo habían entregado por envidia.
For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.
11 P ero los principales sacerdotes provocaron a la multitud para que le pidiera que en vez de Jesús les soltara a Barrabás.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.
12 P ilato les preguntó: “¿Qué haré, entonces, con el que ustedes llaman el Rey de los Judíos?”
Answering again, Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?”
13 E llos le respondieron a gritos: “¡Crucifícalo!”
They shouted back, “Crucify Him!”
14 Y Pilato les decía: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho?” Y ellos gritaban aún más: “¡Crucifícalo!”
But Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”
15 P ilato, queriendo complacer a la multitud, les soltó a Barrabás; y después de hacer azotar a Jesús, Lo entregó para que fuera crucificado. Los Soldados se Burlan de Jesús
Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. Jesus Is Mocked
16 E ntonces los soldados llevaron a Jesús dentro del palacio, es decir, al Pretorio, y convocaron a toda la tropa Romana.
The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort.
17 L o vistieron de púrpura, y después de tejer una corona de espinas, se la pusieron;
They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;
18 y comenzaron a gritar: “¡Salve, Rey de los Judíos!”
and they began to acclaim Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
19 L e golpeaban la cabeza con una caña y Le escupían, y poniéndose de rodillas, Le hacían reverencias.
They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him.
20 D espués de haberse burlado de Jesús, Le quitaron el manto de púrpura, Le pusieron Sus ropas y Lo sacaron para que fuera crucificado.
After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.
21 Y obligaron a uno que pasaba y que venía del campo, Simón de Cirene, padre de Alejandro y Rufo, a que llevara la cruz de Jesús. La Crucifixión
They pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to bear His cross. The Crucifixion
22 L o llevaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que traducido significa Lugar de la Calavera.
Then they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.
23 T rataron de dar a Jesús vino mezclado con mirra, pero El no lo tomó.
They tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it.
24 C uando Lo crucificaron, se repartieron Sus vestidos, echando suertes sobre ellos para decidir lo que cada uno tomaría.
And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man should take.
25 E ra la hora tercera (9 a. m.) cuando Lo crucificaron.
It was the third hour when they crucified Him.
26 L a inscripción de la acusación contra El decía: “EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS.”
The inscription of the charge against Him read, “ THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
27 C rucificaron con El a dos ladrones; uno a Su derecha y otro a Su izquierda.
They crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.
28 Y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: “Y con los transgresores fue contado.”
'> And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”]
29 L os que pasaban Lo injuriaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo: “¡Bah! Tú que destruyes el templo y en tres días lo reedificas,
Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
30 ¡ sálvate a Ti mismo descendiendo de la cruz!”
save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”
31 D e igual manera, también los principales sacerdotes junto con los escribas, burlándose de El entre ellos, decían: “A otros salvó, El mismo no se puede salvar.
In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, “ He saved others; He cannot save Himself.
32 Q ue este Cristo, el Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, para que veamos y creamos.” Y los que estaban crucificados con El también Lo insultaban. Muerte de Jesús
Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.
33 C uando llegó la hora sexta (mediodía), hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena (3 p. m.).
When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 Y a la hora novena (3 p. m.) Jesús exclamó con fuerte voz: “ Eloi, Eloi, ¿lema sabactani ?” que traducido significa, “ Dios mio, Dios mio, ¿por que Me has abandonado ?”
At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani ?” which is translated, “ My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me ?”
35 A lgunos de los que estaban allí, al oír lo, decían: “Miren, está llamando a Elías.”
When some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, “Behold, He is calling for Elijah.”
36 E ntonces uno corrió y empapó una esponja en vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, dio a Jesús a beber, diciendo: “Dejen, veamos si Elías Lo viene a bajar.”
Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “ Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down.”
37 P ero Jesús, dando un fuerte grito, expiró.
And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.
38 Y el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo.
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39 V iendo el centurión que estaba frente a El, la manera en que expiró, dijo: “En verdad este hombre era Hijo de Dios.”
When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
40 H abía también unas mujeres mirando de lejos, entre las que estaban María Magdalena, María, la madre de Jacobo (Santiago) el menor y de José, y Salomé,
There were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome.
41 l as cuales cuando Jesús estaba en Galilea, Lo seguían y Le servían; y había muchas otras que habían subido con El a Jerusalén. Sepultura de Jesús
When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem. Jesus Is Buried
42 Y a al atardecer, como era el día de la preparación, es decir, la víspera del día de reposo,
When evening had already come, because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,
43 v ino José de Arimatea, miembro prominente del Concilio (Sanedrín), que también esperaba el reino de Dios; y llenándose de valor, entró adonde estaba Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.
Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.
44 P ilato se sorprendió de que ya hubiera muerto, y llamando al centurión, le preguntó si ya estaba muerto.
Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.
45 Y al comprobar esto por medio del centurión, le concedió el cuerpo a José,
And ascertaining this from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.
46 q uien compró un lienzo de lino, y bajando el cuerpo de la cruz, Lo envolvió en el lienzo de lino y Lo puso en un sepulcro que había sido excavado en la roca; e hizo rodar una piedra a la entrada del sepulcro.
Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
47 Y María Magdalena y María, la madre de José, miraban para saber dónde Lo ponían.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He was laid.
