1 E ntonces Pablo, mirando fijamente al Concilio (al Sanedrín), dijo: “Hermanos, hasta este día yo he vivido delante de Dios con una conciencia perfectamente limpia.”

Paul, looking intently at the Council, said, “ Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day.”

2 Y el sumo sacerdote Ananías ordenó a los que estaban junto a él, que lo golpearan en la boca.

The high priest Ananias commanded those standing beside him to strike him on the mouth.

3 E ntonces Pablo le dijo: “¡Dios lo golpeará a usted, pared blanqueada! ¿Se sienta usted para juzgarme conforme a la Ley, y viola la Ley ordenando que me golpeen ?”

Then Paul said to him, “God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to try me according to the Law, and in violation of the Law order me to be struck?”

4 L os que estaban allí observando, dijeron: “¿Al sumo sacerdote de Dios injurias?”

But the bystanders said, “Do you revile God’s high priest?”

5 Y Pablo dijo: “No sabía, hermanos, que él era el sumo sacerdote; porque escrito está: ‘ No hablaras mal de una de las autoridades de tu pueblo.’”

And Paul said, “I was not aware, brethren, that he was high priest; for it is written, ‘ You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”

6 E ntonces Pablo, dándose cuenta de que una parte eran Saduceos y otra Fariseos, alzó la voz en el Concilio: “Hermanos, yo soy Fariseo, hijo de Fariseos. Se me juzga a causa de la esperanza de la resurrección de los muertos.”

But perceiving that one group were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, Paul began crying out in the Council, “ Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; I am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead!”

7 C uando dijo esto, se produjo un altercado entre los Fariseos y los Saduceos, y la asamblea se dividió.

As he said this, there occurred a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.

8 P orque los Saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu, pero los Fariseos creen todo esto.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

9 S e produjo entonces un gran alboroto. Y levantándose algunos de los escribas del grupo de los Fariseos, discutían enérgicamente, diciendo: “No encontramos nada malo en este hombre; pero ¿y si un espíritu o un ángel le ha hablado ?”

And there occurred a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying, “ We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”

10 A l surgir un gran altercado, el comandante tuvo temor de que Pablo fuera despedazado por ellos, y ordenó que las tropas descendieran, lo sacaran de entre ellos a la fuerza y lo llevaran al cuartel.

And as a great dissension was developing, the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them and ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks.

11 A la noche siguiente el Señor se le apareció a Pablo y le dijo: “Ten ánimo, porque como has testificado fielmente de Mi causa en Jerusalén, así has de testificar también en Roma.” Conspiración de los Judíos contra Pablo

But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said, “ Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness at Rome also.” A Conspiracy to Kill Paul

12 C uando se hizo de día, los Judíos tramaron una conspiración y se comprometieron bajo juramento, diciendo que no comerían ni beberían hasta que hubieran matado a Pablo.

When it was day, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

13 L os que tramaron este plan eran más de cuarenta hombres,

There were more than forty who formed this plot.

14 l os cuales fueron a los principales sacerdotes y a los ancianos y dijeron: “Nos hemos comprometido bajo solemne juramento a no probar nada hasta que hayamos matado a Pablo.

They came to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have bound ourselves under a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.

15 A hora pues, ustedes y el Concilio, avisen al comandante para que lo haga comparecer ante ustedes, como si quisieran hacer una investigación más minuciosa para resolver su caso. Nosotros por nuestra parte estamos listos para matarlo antes de que llegue.”

Now therefore, you and the Council notify the commander to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case by a more thorough investigation; and we for our part are ready to slay him before he comes near the place.”

16 P ero el hijo de la hermana de Pablo se enteró de la emboscada, y fue y entró al cuartel y dio aviso a Pablo.

But the son of Paul’s sister heard of their ambush, and he came and entered the barracks and told Paul.

17 P ablo, llamando a uno de los centuriones, dijo: “Lleva a este joven al comandante, porque tiene algo que informarle.”

Paul called one of the centurions to him and said, “Lead this young man to the commander, for he has something to report to him.”

18 E l entonces, tomándolo consigo, lo condujo al comandante, y le dijo: “Pablo, el preso, me llamó y me pidió que te trajera a este joven, pues tiene algo que decirte.”

So he took him and led him to the commander and said, “Paul the prisoner called me to him and asked me to lead this young man to you since he has something to tell you.”

19 E l comandante, tomándolo de la mano, y llevándolo aparte, le preguntó: “¿Qué es lo que tienes que informarme?”

The commander took him by the hand and stepping aside, began to inquire of him privately, “What is it that you have to report to me?”

20 Y el joven respondió: “Los Judíos se han puesto de acuerdo en pedirle que mañana lleve a Pablo al Concilio con el pretexto de hacer una indagación más a fondo sobre él.

And he said, “ The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down tomorrow to the Council, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more thoroughly about him.

21 P ero no les preste atención, porque más de cuarenta hombres de ellos, que se han comprometido bajo juramento a no comer ni beber hasta que lo hayan matado, esperan emboscados. Ellos ya están listos esperando promesa de parte suya.”

So do not listen to them, for more than forty of them are lying in wait for him who have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they slay him; and now they are ready and waiting for the promise from you.”

22 E ntonces el comandante dejó ir al joven, encomendándole: “No digas a nadie que me has informado de estas cosas.”

So the commander let the young man go, instructing him, “Tell no one that you have notified me of these things.” Paul Moved to Caesarea

23 Y llamando a dos de los centuriones, dijo: “Preparen 200 soldados para las nueve de la noche, con setenta jinetes y 200 lanceros, para que vayan a Cesarea.”

And he called to him two of the centurions and said, “Get two hundred soldiers ready by the third hour of the night to proceed to Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen.”

24 D ebían preparar también cabalgaduras para Pablo y llevarlo a salvo al gobernador Félix. Carta de Claudio Lisias a Félix

They were also to provide mounts to put Paul on and bring him safely to Felix the governor.

25 T ambién el comandante escribió una carta en estos términos:

And he wrote a letter having this form:

26 “ Claudio Lisias, al excelentísimo gobernador Félix: Salud.

“Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, greetings.

27 C uando este hombre fue arrestado por los Judíos, y estaba a punto de ser muerto por ellos, al saber que era Romano, fui con las tropas y lo rescaté.

“When this man was arrested by the Jews and was about to be slain by them, I came up to them with the troops and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.

28 Q ueriendo cerciorarme de la causa por la cual lo acusaban, lo llevé a su Concilio

“And wanting to ascertain the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their Council;

29 y hallé que lo acusaban sobre cuestiones de su Ley, pero no de ningún cargo que mereciera muerte o prisión.

and I found him to be accused over questions about their Law, but under no accusation deserving death or imprisonment.

30 C uando se me informó de que había un plan en contra del hombre, se lo envié enseguida, instruyendo también a sus acusadores que presenten los cargos contra él delante de usted.”

“When I was informed that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, also instructing his accusers to bring charges against him before you.”

31 A sí que los soldados, de acuerdo con las órdenes que tenían, tomaron a Pablo y lo llevaron de noche a (la ciudad de) Antípatris.

So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.

32 A l día siguiente regresaron al cuartel dejando que los de a caballo siguieran con él,

But the next day, leaving the horsemen to go on with him, they returned to the barracks.

33 l os cuales, después de llegar a Cesarea y de entregar la carta al gobernador, le presentaron también a Pablo.

When these had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.

34 C uando el gobernador leyó la carta, preguntó de qué provincia era Pablo. Y al enterarse de que era de Cilicia,

When he had read it, he asked from what province he was, and when he learned that he was from Cilicia,

35 d ijo: “Te oiré cuando estén presentes también tus acusadores.” Y mandó que lo guardaran en el Pretorio (la residencia oficial del gobernador) de Herodes (Agripa I).

he said, “I will give you a hearing after your accusers arrive also,” giving orders for him to be kept in Herod’s Praetorium.
