1 “ Recorran las calles de Jerusalén, Y miren ahora, e infórmense; Busquen en sus plazas, A ver si hallan algún hombre, Si hay quien haga justicia, que busque la verdad, Y Yo la perdonaré.

“ Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, And look now and take note. And seek in her open squares, If you can find a man, If there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, Then I will pardon her.

2 P ues aunque digan: ‘Vive el Señor,’ De cierto juran falsamente.”

“And although they say, ‘As the Lord lives,’ Surely they swear falsely.”

3 O h, Señor, ¿no buscan Tus ojos la verdad? Tú los heriste, Mas no les dolió; Tú los consumiste, Mas ellos rehusaron recibir corrección. Endurecieron sus rostros más que la roca, Rehusaron arrepentirse.

O Lord, do not Your eyes look for truth? You have smitten them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.

4 E ntonces yo dije: “Ciertamente estos sólo son gente ignorante, Son necios, Porque no conocen el camino del Señor Ni las ordenanzas de su Dios.

Then I said, “They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord Or the ordinance of their God.

5 M e dirigiré a los grandes Y les hablaré, Porque ellos sí conocen el camino del Señor Y las ordenanzas de su Dios.” Pero también todos ellos a una habían quebrado el yugo Y roto las coyundas.

“I will go to the great And will speak to them, For they know the way of the Lord And the ordinance of their God.” But they too, with one accord, have broken the yoke And burst the bonds.

6 P or tanto los herirá el león de la selva, El lobo de los desiertos los destruirá; Un leopardo acecha sus ciudades, Y todo el que salga de ellas será despedazado, Porque son muchas sus transgresiones, Y numerosas sus apostasías.

Therefore a lion from the forest will slay them, A wolf of the deserts will destroy them, A leopard is watching their cities. Everyone who goes out of them will be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many, Their apostasies are numerous.

7 “ ¿Por qué he de perdonarte por esto? Tus hijos Me han abandonado Y han jurado por lo que no es Dios. Cuando los sacié, cometieron adulterio Y fueron en tropel a casa de las rameras.

“Why should I pardon you? Your sons have forsaken Me And sworn by those who are not gods. When I had fed them to the full, They committed adultery And trooped to the harlot’s house.

8 E ran caballos cebados y fogosos, Cada cual relinchando tras la mujer de su prójimo.

“They were well-fed lusty horses, Each one neighing after his neighbor’s wife.

9 ¿ No he de castigar a este pueblo ?” declara el Señor. “De una nación como ésta, ¿No he de vengarme ?

“Shall I not punish these people,” declares the Lord, “And on a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?

10 S uban por entre sus hileras de vides y destruyan, Pero no hagan destrucción total; Arranquen sus sarmientos, Pues no son del Señor;

“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, But do not execute a complete destruction; Strip away her branches, For they are not the Lord’s.

11 P orque la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá Han obrado pérfidamente conmigo,” declara el Señor.

“For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” declares the Lord.

12 H an mentido acerca del Señor Y dijeron: “El no existe. Ninguna calamidad vendrá sobre nosotros, Y no veremos ni espada ni hambre.

They have lied about the Lord And said, “ Not He; Misfortune will not come on us, And we will not see sword or famine.

13 L os profetas son como el viento, Y la palabra no está en ellos. Que así se les haga a ellos.”

“The prophets are as wind, And the word is not in them. Thus it will be done to them!” Judgment Proclaimed

14 P or tanto, así dice el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos: “Por cuanto han hablado esta palabra, Yo pongo Mis palabras en tu boca por fuego Y a este pueblo por leña, y los consumirá.

Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, “Because you have spoken this word, Behold, I am making My words in your mouth fire And this people wood, and it will consume them.

15 V oy a traer de lejos una nación contra ustedes, oh casa de Israel,” declara el Señor. Es una nación fuerte, Es una nación antigua, Una nación cuya lengua no conoces, Y no podrás entender lo que hable.

“Behold, I am bringing a nation against you from afar, O house of Israel,” declares the Lord. “It is an enduring nation, It is an ancient nation, A nation whose language you do not know, Nor can you understand what they say.

16 S u aljaba es como sepulcro abierto, Todos ellos son valientes.

“Their quiver is like an open grave, All of them are mighty men.

17 D evorará tu cosecha y tu pan, Devorará a tus hijos y a tus hijas, Devorará tus ovejas y tus vacas, Devorará tus viñas y tus higueras; A espada destruirá tus ciudades fortificadas en que confías.

“They will devour your harvest and your food; They will devour your sons and your daughters; They will devour your flocks and your herds; They will devour your vines and your fig trees; They will demolish with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.

18 “ Sin embargo, aun en aquellos días,” declara el Señor,“no llevaré a cabo una destrucción total de ustedes.

“Yet even in those days,” declares the Lord, “I will not make you a complete destruction.

19 Y cuando te pregunten: ‘¿Por qué el Señor nuestro Dios nos ha hecho todo esto?’ Les dirás: ‘Así como ustedes Me dejaron y sirvieron a dioses extraños en su tierra, así servirán a extranjeros en una tierra que no es la de ustedes.’

It shall come about when they say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ then you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’

20 “ Anuncien esto en la casa de Jacob Y proclámenlo en Judá, diciendo:

“Declare this in the house of Jacob And proclaim it in Judah, saying,

21 ‘ Oigan ahora esto, pueblo necio e insensible, Que tienen ojos y no ven, Tienen oídos y no oyen.

‘Now hear this, O foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see; Who have ears but do not hear.

22 ¿ No Me temen ?’ declara el Señor. ‘¿No tiemblan delante de Mí, Que puse la arena como frontera del mar, Límite perpetuo que no traspasará? Aunque se agiten las olas, no prevalecerán; Aunque bramen, no pasarán sobre ella.

‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord. ‘Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it. Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail; Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.

23 P ero este pueblo tiene un corazón terco y rebelde; Se han desviado y se han ido.

‘But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; They have turned aside and departed.

24 N o dicen en su corazón: “Temamos ahora al Señor nuestro Dios, Que da la lluvia a su tiempo, Tanto la lluvia de otoño como la de primavera, Y que reserva para nosotros Las semanas establecidas de la cosecha.”

‘They do not say in their heart, “Let us now fear the Lord our God, Who gives rain in its season, Both the autumn rain and the spring rain, Who keeps for us The appointed weeks of the harvest.”

25 ‘ Sus iniquidades han alejado estas cosas, Y sus pecados los han privado del bien.

‘Your iniquities have turned these away, And your sins have withheld good from you.

26 P orque en Mi pueblo se encuentran impíos Que vigilan como cazadores al acecho; Ponen trampa, Atrapan hombres.

‘For wicked men are found among My people, They watch like fowlers lying in wait; They set a trap, They catch men.

27 C omo una jaula llena de pájaros, Así están sus casas llenas de engaño; Por eso se engrandecieron y se enriquecieron.

‘Like a cage full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit; Therefore they have become great and rich.

28 H an engordado y se han puesto lustrosos. También sobrepasan en obras de maldad; No defienden la causa, La causa del huérfano, para que prospere, Ni defienden los derechos del pobre.

‘They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the orphan, that they may prosper; And they do not defend the rights of the poor.

29 ¿ No he de castigar por esto?’ declara el Señor. ‘De una nación como ésta ¿No he de vengarme ?’

‘ Shall I not punish these people ?’ declares the Lord, ‘On a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?’

30 “ Algo espantoso y terrible Ha sucedido en la tierra:

“An appalling and horrible thing Has happened in the land:

31 L os profetas profetizan falsamente, Los sacerdotes gobiernan por su cuenta, Y a Mi pueblo así le gusta. Pero ¿qué harán al final de esto?

The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule on their own authority; And My people love it so! But what will you do at the end of it?
