1 E n el mes séptimo fue Ismael, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la familia real, y uno de los oficiales principales del rey, junto con diez hombres, adonde estaba Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, en Mizpa. Y mientras comían juntos allí en Mizpa,

In the seventh month Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family and one of the chief officers of the king, along with ten men, came to Mizpah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. While they were eating bread together there in Mizpah,

2 s e levantó Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que estaban con él, e hirieron a espada a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, y mataron al que el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar sobre la tierra.

Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him arose and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword and put to death the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

3 I smael mató también a todos los Judíos que estaban con él, es decir, con Gedalías, en Mizpa, y a los hombres de guerra Caldeos que se encontraban allí.

Ishmael also struck down all the Jews who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

4 Y al día siguiente del asesinato de Gedalías, cuando nadie lo sabía aún,

Now it happened on the next day after the killing of Gedaliah, when no one knew about it,

5 o chenta hombres vinieron de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, con las barbas rapadas, las vestiduras rasgadas y cubiertos de incisiones, y con ofrendas de cereal e incienso en sus manos, para llevar los a la casa del Señor.

that eighty men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria with their beards shaved off and their clothes torn and their bodies gashed, having grain offerings and incense in their hands to bring to the house of the Lord.

6 E ntonces Ismael, hijo de Netanías, salió a su encuentro desde Mizpa, iba llorando; y cuando los encontró, les dijo: “Vengan a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam.”

Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went; and as he met them, he said to them, “Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam!”

7 C uando entraron en la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los hombres que con él estaban, los degollaron y los echaron en la cisterna.

Yet it turned out that as soon as they came inside the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men that were with him slaughtered them and cast them into the cistern.

8 P ero diez hombres que se encontraban entre ellos, dijeron a Ismael: “No nos mates; pues tenemos escondidos en el campo, depósitos de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel.” Y él se contuvo y no los mató como a sus compañeros.

But ten men who were found among them said to Ishmael, “Do not put us to death; for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil and honey hidden in the field.” So he refrained and did not put them to death along with their companions.

9 Y la cisterna donde Ismael había echado todos los cadáveres de los hombres que él había matado por causa de Gedalías, era la que el rey Asa había hecho por causa de Baasa, rey de Israel; Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó de muertos.

Now as for the cistern where Ishmael had cast all the corpses of the men whom he had struck down because of Gedaliah, it was the one that King Asa had made on account of Baasha, king of Israel; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

10 D espués Ismael tomó cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que estaba en Mizpa, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, a los cuales Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había puesto bajo el mando de Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam. Los tomó, pues, cautivos Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y fue a pasarse a los Amonitas.

Then Ishmael took captive all the remnant of the people who were in Mizpah, the king’s daughters and all the people who were left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had put under the charge of Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; thus Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and proceeded to cross over to the sons of Ammon. 11 Y oyó Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él de todo el mal que había hecho Ismael, hijo de Netanías.

But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done.

12 E ntonces tomaron a todos sus hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y lo encontraron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

So they took all the men and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and they found him by the great pool that is in Gibeon.

13 C uando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, se alegraron.

Now as soon as all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and the commanders of the forces that were with him, they were glad.

14 Y todo el pueblo que Ismael llevaba cautivo a Mizpa dio la vuelta y regresó y se fue con Johanán, hijo de Carea.

So all the people whom Ishmael had taken captive from Mizpah turned around and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

15 P ero Ismael, hijo de Netanías, escapó de Johanán con ocho hombres y se fue con los Amonitas.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the sons of Ammon.

16 E ntonces Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los jefes de las tropas que estaban con él, tomaron de Mizpa a todo el resto del pueblo que él había recobrado de Ismael, hijo de Netanías, después que éste había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, es decir, a los hombres de guerra, las mujeres, los niños y los eunucos, que había traído de Gabaón.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him took from Mizpah all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, after he had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, that is, the men who were soldiers, the women, the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

17 Y fueron y se quedaron en Gerut Quimam, que está junto a Belén (Casa del Pan), a fin de ir y entrar en Egipto,

And they went and stayed in Geruth Chimham, which is beside Bethlehem, in order to proceed into Egypt

18 a causa de los Caldeos, porque les temían, ya que Ismael, hijo de Netanías, había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar el país.

because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, since Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.
