1 E ntonces José vino e informó a Faraón: “Mi padre y mis hermanos, con sus ovejas, sus vacas y todo lo que tienen, han venido de la tierra de Canaán. Ahora ellos están en la tierra de Gosén.”

Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers and their flocks and their herds and all that they have, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.”

2 Y tomó cinco hombres de entre sus hermanos, y los presentó delante de Faraón.

He took five men from among his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh.

3 E ntonces Faraón dijo a sus hermanos: “¿Cuál es su ocupación ?” “Sus siervos son pastores de ovejas, tanto nosotros como nuestros padres,” ellos respondieron a Faraón.

Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, “ What is your occupation?” So they said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we and our fathers.”

4 D ijeron también a Faraón: “Hemos venido a residir en esta tierra, porque no hay pasto para los rebaños de sus siervos, pues el hambre es severa en la tierra de Canaán. Ahora pues, permita que sus siervos habiten en la tierra de Gosén.”

They said to Pharaoh, “ We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now, therefore, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.”

5 Y Faraón dijo a José: “Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

6 L a tierra de Egipto está a tu disposición. En lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar a tu padre y a tus hermanos. Que habiten en la tierra de Gosén, y si sabes que hay hombres capaces entre ellos, ponlos a cargo de mi ganado.”

The land of Egypt is at your disposal; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land, let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know any capable men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”

7 J osé trajo a su padre Jacob y lo presentó a Faraón. Jacob bendijo a Faraón.

Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

8 Y Faraón preguntó a Jacob: “¿Cuántos años tienes? ”

Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many years have you lived?”

9 E ntonces Jacob respondió a Faraón: “Los años de mi peregrinación son 130 años; pocos y malos han sido los años de mi vida, y no han alcanzado a los años que mis padres vivieron en los días de su peregrinación.”

So Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my sojourning are one hundred and thirty; few and unpleasant have been the years of my life, nor have they attained the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning.”

10 Y Jacob bendijo a Faraón, y salió de su presencia.

And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from his presence.

11 A sí, pues, José estableció allí a su padre y a sus hermanos, y les dio posesión en la tierra de Egipto, en lo mejor de la tierra, en la tierra de Ramsés, como Faraón había mandado.

So Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.

12 J osé proveyó de alimentos a su padre, a sus hermanos y a toda la casa de su padre, según el número de sus hijos. Consecuencias Económicas del Hambre

Joseph provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to their little ones.

13 N o había alimento en toda la tierra, de modo que el hambre era muy severa, y la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán desfallecían a causa del hambre.

Now there was no food in all the land, because the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.

14 Y José recogió todo el dinero que había en la tierra de Egipto y en la tierra de Canaán a cambio del grano que le compraban, y José trajo el dinero a la casa de Faraón.

Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.

15 C uando se acabó el dinero en la tierra de Egipto y en la tierra de Canaán, todos los Egipcios vinieron a José, diciendo: “Denos alimento, pues ¿por qué hemos de morir delante de usted ? ya que nuestro dinero se ha acabado.”

When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food, for why should we die in your presence? For our money is gone.”

16 E ntonces José dijo: “Entreguen sus ganados y yo les daré alimento por sus ganados, puesto que su dinero se ha acabado.”

Then Joseph said, “Give up your livestock, and I will give you food for your livestock, since your money is gone.”

17 T rajeron, pues, sus ganados a José, y José les dio pan a cambio de los caballos, las ovejas, las vacas y los asnos; aquel año les proveyó de alimento a cambio de todos sus ganados.

So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses and the flocks and the herds and the donkeys; and he fed them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year.

18 Y terminado aquel año, vinieron a él el segundo año, y le dijeron: “No encubriremos a mi señor que el dinero se ha acabado, y que el ganado pertenece a mi señor. No queda nada para mi señor, excepto nuestros cuerpos y nuestras tierras.

When that year was ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is all spent, and the cattle are my lord’s. There is nothing left for my lord except our bodies and our lands.

19 ¿ Por qué hemos de morir delante de sus ojos, tanto nosotros como nuestra tierra? Cómprenos a nosotros y a nuestra tierra a cambio de alimento, y nosotros y nuestra tierra seremos siervos de Faraón. De nos, pues, semilla para que vivamos y no muramos, y no quede la tierra desolada.”

Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. So give us seed, that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.” Result of the Famine

20 A sí compró José toda la tierra de Egipto para Faraón, pues los Egipcios vendieron cada uno su campo, porque el hambre era severa sobre ellos. Y la tierra llegó a ser de Faraón.

So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every Egyptian sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. Thus the land became Pharaoh’s.

21 E n cuanto a la gente, la hizo pasar a las ciudades, desde un extremo de la frontera de Egipto hasta el otro.

As for the people, he removed them to the cities from one end of Egypt’s border to the other.

22 S olamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no compró, pues los sacerdotes tenían ración de parte de Faraón, y vivían de la ración que Faraón les daba. Por tanto no vendieron su tierra.

Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they lived off the allotment which Pharaoh gave them. Therefore, they did not sell their land.

23 E ntonces José dijo al pueblo: “Hoy los he comprado a ustedes y a sus tierras para Faraón. Ahora, aquí hay semilla para ustedes. Vayan y siembren la tierra.

Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have today bought you and your land for Pharaoh; now, here is seed for you, and you may sow the land.

24 A l tiempo de la cosecha darán la quinta parte a Faraón, y cuatro partes serán de ustedes para sembrar la tierra y para el mantenimiento de ustedes, para los de sus casas y para alimento de sus pequeños.”

At the harvest you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four-fifths shall be your own for seed of the field and for your food and for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”

25 Y ellos dijeron: “Nos ha salvado la vida. Hallemos gracia ante los ojos de Faraón mi señor, y seremos siervos de Faraón.”

So they said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.”

26 E ntonces José puso una ley respecto a la tierra de Egipto, en vigor hasta hoy: que Faraón debía recibir la quinta parte. Sólo la tierra de los sacerdotes no llegó a ser de Faraón. Petición de Jacob a José

Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt valid to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; only the land of the priests did not become Pharaoh’s.

27 I srael habitó en la tierra de Egipto, en Gosén. Allí adquirieron propiedades y fueron fecundos y se multiplicaron en gran manera.

Now Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in Goshen, and they acquired property in it and were fruitful and became very numerous.

28 J acob vivió diecisiete años en la tierra de Egipto; así que los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, fueron 147 años.

Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years.

29 C uando a Israel se le acercó el tiempo de morir, llamó a su hijo José y le dijo: “Si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, por favor, pon ahora tu mano debajo de mi muslo y trátame con misericordia y fidelidad: Por favor, no me sepultes en Egipto.

When the time for Israel to die drew near, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Please, if I have found favor in your sight, place now your hand under my thigh and deal with me in kindness and faithfulness. Please do not bury me in Egypt,

30 C uando duerma con mis padres, me llevarás de Egipto y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos.” “Haré según tu palabra,” le respondió José.

but when I lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place.” And he said, “I will do as you have said.”

31 Y Jacob dijo: “Júrame lo.” Y se lo juró. Entonces Israel se inclinó en adoración en la cabecera de la cama.

He said, “ Swear to me.” So he swore to him. Then Israel bowed in worship at the head of the bed.
