1 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Domnul i-a zis lui Moise:

2 A venge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

„Răzbună-i pe israeliţi împotriva midianiţilor; după aceea vei fi adăugat la poporul tău.“

3 A nd Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.

Moise a spus poporului: „Înarmaţi câţiva bărbaţi dintre voi care să meargă la luptă împotriva lui Midian şi să aducă răzbunarea Domnului asupra lui.

4   Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

Trimiteţi la război câte o mie de bărbaţi din fiecare seminţie a lui Israel.“

5 S o there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

Astfel, din miile lui Israel, au fost pregătiţi douăsprezece mii de bărbaţi, câte o mie din fiecare seminţie.

6 A nd Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

Moise i-a trimis la luptă pe aceşti o mie de bărbaţi din fiecare seminţie, împreună cu preotul Fineas, fiul lui Elazar, care a luat cu el uneltele sfinte şi trâmbiţele de luptă.

7 A nd they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

Aceştia s-au luptat împotriva Midianului, după cum îi poruncise Domnul lui Moise, şi au ucis toţi bărbaţii.

8 A nd they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

Alături de cei ucişi se aflau şi cei cinci regi ai Midianului: Evi, Rechem, Ţur, Hur şi Reba. Au ucis cu sabia şi pe Balaam, fiul lui Beor.

9 A nd the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

Israeliţii au luat ca pradă de război femeile midianite şi copiii lor, vitele lor, turmele lor şi toate celelalte bunuri.

10 A nd they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

Au dat foc tuturor cetăţilor în care au locuit midianiţii precum şi tuturor fortăreţelor lor.

11 A nd they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

Au luat toată prada şi tot ce au jefuit, atât oameni, cât şi animale,

12 A nd they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

şi le-au adus – prizonierii, prada şi jafurile – lui Moise, preotului Elazar şi adunării israeliţilor la tabăra din câmpiile Moabului, lângă Iordan, în faţa Ierihonului.

13 A nd Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

Moise, preotul Elazar şi toţi conducătorii adunării s-au dus să-i întâlnească în afara taberei.

14 A nd Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

Moise s-a mâniat pe conducătorii oştirii – pe conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute – care se întorceau din război:

15 A nd Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

„Cum? Aţi lăsat în viaţă femeile?“, i-a întrebat el.

16 B ehold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

„Ele sunt acelea care au urmat sfatul lui Balaam şi au fost un prilej de păcătuire a israeliţilor împotriva Domnului, în cele întâmplate la Peor, astfel încât poporul Domnului a fost lovit de o urgie.

17 N ow therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

Acum, ucideţi toţi băieţii precum şi toate femeile care au cunoscut un bărbat, culcându-se cu el,

18 B ut all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

iar pe fetele care nu s-au culcat niciodată cu un bărbat puteţi să vi le păstraţi vouă.

19 A nd do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

Apoi toţi aceia dintre voi care aţi ucis pe cineva sau aţi atins vreun cadavru trebuie să rămâneţi afară din tabără şapte zile. A treia şi a şaptea zi trebuie să vă curăţiţi, atât voi, cât şi prizonierii voştri.

20 A nd purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.

De asemenea, să curăţiţi orice haină şi orice lucru făcut din piele, din păr de capră sau din lemn.“

21 A nd Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;

Apoi preotul Elazar le-a zis bărbaţilor care fuseseră la război: „Iată ce porunceşte Legea pe care i-a poruncit-o Domnul lui Moise:

22 o nly the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

«Aurul, argintul, bronzul, fierul, cositorul, plumbul

23 e very thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

şi orice lucru care poate suferi focul, să-l treceţi prin foc şi apoi prin apa de curăţire, ca să fie curăţit. Tot ce nu suportă focul trebuie curăţit prin această apă.

24 A nd ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

A şaptea zi să vă spălaţi hainele şi veţi fi curaţi. Apoi veţi putea să vă întoarceţi în tabără.»“ Împărţirea prăzii

25 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Domnul i-a zis lui Moise:

26 T ake the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:

„Tu, preotul Elazar şi toţi conducătorii familiilor din adunare să număraţi toţi oamenii şi toate animalele care au fost luate ca pradă.

27 a nd divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

Împărţiţi prada între cei care au luat parte la luptă şi restul adunării.

28 a nd levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

De la bărbaţii care au luptat în război, să aduci ca tribut Domnului câte unul la cinci sute, fie oameni, boi, măgari, oi sau ţapi.

29 t ake it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.

Ia acest tribut din jumătatea cuvenită lor şi dă-l preotului Elazar, ca parte a Domnului.

30 A nd of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.

Din cealaltă jumătate, cuvenită poporului, alege câte unul din fiecare cincizeci – dintre oameni, boi, măgari, oi, ţapi sau orice alt animal – şi dă-l leviţilor care sunt responsabili de Tabernaculul Domnului. “

31 A nd Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Moise şi preotul Elazar au făcut întocmai după cum îi poruncise Domnul lui Moise.

32 A nd the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

Prada rămasă din jaful făcut de ostaşi era de şase sute şaptezeci şi cinci de mii de oi,

33 a nd threescore and twelve thousand beeves,

şaptezeci şi două de mii de boi,

34 a nd threescore and one thousand asses,

şaizeci şi unu de mii de măgari

35 a nd thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.

şi treizeci şi două de mii de femei care nu s-au culcat niciodată cu un bărbat.

36 A nd the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:

Jumătatea care alcătuia partea celor ce luptaseră în război era: trei sute treizeci şi şapte de mii cinci sute de oi,

37 a nd the Lord’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

din care şase sute şaptezeci şi cinci erau tribut Domnului;

38 A nd the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve.

treizeci şi şase de mii de boi, din care şaptezeci şi doi erau tribut Domnului;

39 A nd the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one.

treizeci de mii cinci sute de măgari, din care şaizeci şi unu erau tribut Domnului;

40 A nd the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was thirty and two persons.

şaisprezece mii de oameni, din care treizeci şi doi erau tribut Domnului.

41 A nd Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Moise a dat acest tribut preotului Elazar, ca parte a Domnului, după cum Domnul îi poruncise lui Moise.

42 A nd of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,

Jumătatea care alcătuia partea israeliţilor, pe care Moise a separat-o de cea a ostaşilor

43 ( now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,

– jumătatea adunării – era de trei sute treizeci şi şapte de mii cinci sute de oi,

44 a nd thirty and six thousand beeves,

treizeci şi şase de mii de boi,

45 a nd thirty thousand asses and five hundred,

treizeci de mii cinci sute de măgari

46 a nd sixteen thousand persons;)

şi şaisprezece mii de oameni.

47 e ven of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.

Din jumătatea israeliţilor, Moise a ales câte unul din fiecare cincizeci de oameni şi animale, după cum i-a poruncit Domnul şi i-a dat leviţilor care erau responsabili de Tabernaculul Domnului.

48 A nd the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:

Atunci conducătorii oştirii – cei peste mii şi cei peste sute – s-au dus la Moise

49 a nd they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

şi i-au zis: „Slujitorii tăi au numărat luptătorii de sub comanda noastră şi nu lipseşte nici unul.

50 W e have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.

Noi aducem ca jertfă Domnului tot ce am găsit ca obiect de aur – lănţişoare, brăţări, inele, cercei şi coliere – ca să facem ispăşire pentru sufletele noastre înaintea Domnului. “

51 A nd Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.

Moise şi preotul Elazar au acceptat de la ei toate aceste obiecte lucrate în aur.

52 A nd all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

Tot aurul pe care conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute l-au adus Domnului cântărea şaisprezece mii şapte sute cincizeci de şecheli.

53 ( For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)

Fiecare luptător şi-a păstrat prada pentru sine.

54 A nd Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.

Moise şi preotul Elazar au acceptat aurul adus de conducătorii peste mii şi conducătorii peste sute şi l-au adus în Cortul Întâlnirii ca o aducere-aminte pentru israeliţi înaintea Domnului.
