1 T hus saith the Lord; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată, voi stârni un duh nimicitor împotriva Babilonului şi împotriva locuitorilor din Leb-Kamai.

2 a nd will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

Voi trimite împotriva Babilonului nişte străini care îl vor vântura şi-i vor goli ţara. Ei o vor ataca din toate părţile în ziua nenorocirii.

3 A gainst him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

Să se întindă arcul împotriva celui ce-şi întinde arcul şi împotriva celui ce se mândreşte cu armura lui! Nu-i cruţaţi pe tinerii lui! Nimiciţi-i cu desăvârşire toată oştirea!

4 T hus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.

Vor cădea ucişi în ţara caldeenilor, străpunşi pe străzile ei.

5 F or Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the Lord of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

Căci Israel şi Iuda nu sunt părăsite de Dumnezeul lor, de Domnul Oştirilor, deşi ţara lor este plină de vină înaintea Sfântului lui Israel.

6 F lee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.

Fugiţi din Babilon! Scăpaţi-vă viaţa, ca nu cumva să fiţi nimiciţi din cauza păcatelor lui, căci vremea răzbunării Domnului a sosit şi El îl va răsplăti după meritele lui!

7 B abylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Babilonul a fost o cupă de aur în mâna Domnului, care îmbăta întregul pământ. Neamurile au băut din vinul ei şi de aceea au înnebunit.

8 B abylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

Cetatea Babilonului va cădea dintr-odată şi va fi zdrobită! Plângeţi pentru ea! Aduceţi balsam pentru rana ei; poate va putea fi vindecată!»“

9 W e would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

„Am vrut să vindecăm Babilonul, dar nu poate fi vindecat! Să-l părăsim şi să mergem fiecare în ţara lui, căci judecata lui ajunge până la ceruri şi se înalţă până la nori.

10 T he Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

Domnul scoate la lumină dreptatea cauzei noastre. Să mergem şi să vestim în Sion lucrarea Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru!“

11 M ake bright the arrows; gather the shields: the Lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.

„Ascuţiţi-vă săgeţile şi umpleţi-vă tolbele! Domnul a stârnit duhul regilor Mediei, pentru că scopul Lui este să distrugă Babilonul. Aceasta este răzbunarea Domnului, răzbunarea pentru Templul Său.

12 S et up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the Lord hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

Ridicaţi un steag împotriva zidurilor Babilonului! Întăriţi paza, puneţi păzitori, pregătiţi o ambuscadă! Domnul Îşi va duce la îndeplinire hotărârea pe care a rostit-o împotriva locuitorilor Babilonului.

13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.

Ţie, care locuieşti lângă ape multe şi ai mari bogăţii, ţi-a venit sfârşitul, iar firul vieţii tale a ajuns la capăt!

14 T he Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

Domnul Oştirilor a jurat pe Sine Însuşi: «Te voi umple cu oameni, asemenea unui roi de lăcuste, şi ei vor înălţa strigăte de biruinţă asupra ta.»“

15 H e hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

„El a făcut pământul prin puterea Lui, a pus temeliile lumii prin înţelepciunea Lui, a întins cerurile prin priceperea Lui.

16 W hen he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

La glasul Lui urlă apele din ceruri. El ridică norii de la marginile pământului. El trimite fulgerele şi ploaia şi scoate vântul din cămările Lui.

17 E very man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Toţi oamenii sunt proşti şi fără cunoaştere, toţi aurarii sunt ruşinaţi de idolii lor, căci sunt doar o minciună şi nu au nici o suflare în ei.

18 T hey are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Sunt o deşertăciune, o lucrare de batjocură. La vremea pedepsei lor, vor pieri.

19 T he portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.

Dar Partea lui Iacov nu este ca aceştia, căci El este Cel Ce a întocmit totul, chiar şi seminţia moştenirii Lui – Domnul Oştirilor este Numele Lui.“

20 T hou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

„Tu eşti buzduganul Meu, arma Mea de luptă! Cu tine zdrobesc neamuri şi distrug împărăţii!

21 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

Cu tine zdrobesc calul şi călăreţul! Cu tine zdrobesc carul şi conducătorul lui!

22 w ith thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

Cu tine zdrobesc pe bărbat şi pe femeie, pe bătrân şi pe copil, pe tânăr şi pe fecioară!

23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

Cu tine zdrobesc pe păstor şi turma lui, pe plugar şi boii lui, pe guvernatori şi pe conducători!

24 A nd I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord.

Înaintea ochilor voştri voi răsplăti Babilonului şi tuturor locuitorilor Caldeii pentru tot răul pe care l-au făcut în Sion, zice Domnul.“

25 B ehold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

„Iată, sunt împotriva ta, munte nimicitor, care distrugeai întregul pământ, zice Domnul. Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva ta, te voi rostogoli de pe stânci şi te voi preface într-un munte aprins.

26 A nd they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the Lord.

Nimeni nu va mai lua din tine pietre pentru capul unghiului, nici pietre pentru temelie, căci vei fi un pustiu veşnic, zice Domnul!“

27 S et ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

„Ridicaţi un steag în ţară! Sunaţi din trâmbiţă printre neamuri! Pregătiţi neamurile de luptă împotriva lui! Chemaţi împotriva lui regatele Araratului, Miniului şi Aşchenazului! Numiţi un comandant împotriva lui! Trimiteţi împotriva lui cai precum un roi de lăcuste!

28 P repare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.

Pregătiţi neamurile de luptă împotriva lui – pe regii Mediei, pe guvernatorii lor, pe toţi conducătorii lor şi toate ţările aflate sub stăpânirea lor!

29 A nd the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

Pământul se cutremură şi se zvârcoleşte, căci planurile Domnului împotriva Babilonului se împlinesc – El va preface ţara Babilonului într-un pustiu şi nimeni nu va mai locui acolo.

30 T he mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

Vitejii Babilonului au încetat lupta; ei rămân în fortăreţele lor. Puterea le este sleită şi au ajuns ca nişte femei. Locuinţele lor sunt arse şi zăvoarele lor sunt sfărâmate.

31 O ne post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

Sol după sol, mesager după mesager aleargă să-l anunţe pe împăratul Babilonului că cetatea lui este cucerită de la un capăt la celălalt,

32 a nd that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

că trecătorile râului sunt capturate, că mlaştinile cu trestii sunt arse şi că ostaşii sunt îngroziţi.“

33 F or thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Fiica Babilonului este ca o arie de treierat în perioada când a fost netezită: încă puţin şi vine vremea secerişului.»“

34 N ebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

„Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, m-a devorat: m-a zdrobit, m-a făcut un vas gol. M-a înghiţit ca un şarpe, şi-a umplut pântecele cu bunătăţile mele şi apoi m-a vărsat.

35 T he violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

Fie ca violenţa folosită împotriva mea şi a rudelor mele să se întoarcă împotriva Babilonului, zice locuitoarea Sionului. Fie ca sângele meu să se răsfrângă asupra locuitorilor Caldeii, zice Ierusalimul.“

36 T herefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

„De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată, îţi voi apăra cauza şi te voi răzbuna; voi seca marea Babilonului şi-i voi usca izvoarele.

37 A nd Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.

Babilonul va ajunge un morman de dărâmături, o vizuină de şacali, o pricină de groază şi de batjocură, un loc în care nu va mai locui nimeni.

38 T hey shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions’ whelps.

Ei toţi vor rage ca nişte lei, vor mârâi ca nişte pui de lei.

39 I n their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the Lord.

Dar când vor fi în călduri, le voi pregăti un ospăţ şi-i voi îmbăta, ca să salte de veselie şi să adoarmă apoi somnul cel de veci şi să nu se mai trezească, zice Domnul.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

Îi voi doborî ca pe nişte miei la măcelărie, ca pe nişte berbeci şi ţapi.

41 H ow is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

Cum a fost cucerit Şeşakul, cum a fost capturată pricina de laudă a întregului pământ! Cum a ajuns Babilonul o pricină de groază printre neamuri!

42 T he sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

Marea s-a înălţat peste Babilon; a fost acoperit de valurile ei învolburate!

43 H er cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

Cetăţile lui au devenit pustii, un pământ fără apă şi deşertic, o ţară în care nu mai locuieşte nimeni şi pe unde nu mai trece nici un om.

44 A nd I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

Îl voi pedepsi pe Bel în Babilon şi îi voi smulge din gură ceea ce a înghiţit. Neamurile nu vor mai curge spre el, şi zidul Babilonului se va prăbuşi.

45 M y people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord.

Ieşi din mijlocul lui, popor al Meu! Fiecare să fugă şi să-şi scape viaţa de mânia aprigă a Domnului!

46 A nd lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

Să nu vă slăbească inima şi să nu vă fie frică când zvonurile se aud în ţară, căci anul acesta vine un zvon şi anul următor un alt zvon: ‘Va fi violenţă în ţară, un domnitor se va ridica împotriva altui domnitor!’

47 T herefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

Cu siguranţă, iată, vin zile când voi pedepsi idolii Babilonului. Toată ţara va fi acoperită de ruşine şi toţi cei răniţi vor cădea în mijlocul ei.

48 T hen the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the Lord.

Atunci cerul şi pământul şi tot ce cuprind ele vor striga de bucurie asupra Babilonului, căci din nord, îl vor ataca nimicitorii, zice Domnul.

49 A s Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.

Babilonul trebuie să cadă din cauza celor ucişi ai lui Israel, tot aşa cum şi cei ucişi de pe întreg pământul au căzut din cauza Babilonului.

50 Y e that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

Cei care aţi scăpat de sabie, plecaţi şi nu întârziaţi! Amintiţi-vă de Domnul într-o ţară îndepărtată şi să-şi găsească loc Ierusalimul în inima voastră!»“

51 W e are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the Lord’s house.

„Suntem ruşinaţi, căci am auzit batjocura şi ne-am acoperit feţele din cauza ruşinii, pentru că nişte străini au intrat în locurile sfinte ale Casei Domnului.“

52 W herefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

„Dar iată, vin zile, zice Domnul, când îi voi pedepsi idolii, şi toată ţara va fi plină de gemetele răniţilor ei.

53 T hough Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord.

Chiar dacă Babilonul s-ar înălţa până la cer şi chiar dacă şi-ar fortifica înălţimile, tot voi trimite nimicitorii împotriva lui, zice Domnul.“

54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

„Un strigăt răsună din Babilon. Zgomotul unui mare prăpăd se aude din ţara caldeenilor,

55 b ecause the Lord hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

căci Domnul va distruge Babilonul şi va face să înceteze în el zarva cea mare. Valuri de nimicitori vor urla ca nişte ape mari şi zgomotul strigătelor lor va răsuna.

56 b ecause the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the Lord God of recompences shall surely requite.

Un nimicitor va veni împotriva Babilonului; vitejii lui vor fi capturaţi şi arcurile lor vor fi sfărâmate. Căci Domnul este un Dumnezeu Care răsplăteşte! El, cu siguranţă, va da fiecăruia plata cuvenită!

57 A nd I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

Eu îi voi îmbăta pe conducătorii şi pe înţelepţii lui, pe guvernatori, pe ofiţeri şi pe viteji; ei vor adormi pe vecie şi nu se vor mai trezi, zice Împăratul, al Cărui Nume este Domnul Oştirilor.“

58 T hus saith the Lord of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: «Zidurile cele largi ale Babilonului vor fi dărâmate, iar porţile lui cele înalte vor fi arse în foc. Popoarele se trudesc degeaba şi neamurile muncesc doar pentru foc!»“

59 T he word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.

Iată care este mesajul pe care profetul Ieremia l-a încredinţat lui Seraia, fiul lui Neria, fiul lui Maaseia, când s-a dus în Babilon cu Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, în al patrulea an al domniei acestuia. (Seraia era căpetenia locului de odihnă).

60 S o Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

Ieremia a scris într-un sul toate nenorocirile care vor veni asupra Babilonului – toate cuvintele acestea le-a scris cu privire la Babilon.

61 A nd Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

Ieremia i-a zis lui Seraia: „Când vei ajunge în Babilon, vezi să citeşti toate aceste cuvinte cu voce tare.

62 t hen shalt thou say, O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

Apoi să zici: « Doamne, Tu ai spus că vei distruge acest loc şi că nu va mai fi locuit nici de oameni, nici de animale, ci va deveni un pustiu pe vecie!»

63 A nd it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

Când vei termina de citit acest sul, leagă-l de o piatră şi aruncă-l în mijlocul Eufratului.

64 a nd thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary.

Apoi să spui: «Aşa se va scufunda Babilonul şi nu se va mai ridica din cauza nenorocirilor pe care le voi aduce asupra lui, iar poporul lui va fi neputincios.»“ Până aici sunt cuvintele lui Ieremia.
