1 T hus saith the Lord; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;

Así dice el Señor: “Levanto contra Babilonia Y contra los habitantes de Leb Camay (Caldea) El espíritu de un destructor.

2 a nd will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

Y enviaré extranjeros a Babilonia que la aventarán Y vaciarán su tierra; Porque estarán contra ella por todos lados El día de su tribulación.

3 A gainst him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

Que no entese el arquero su arco, Ni se levante con su coraza; No perdonen a sus jóvenes; Entreguen a la destrucción todo su ejército.

4 T hus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.

Caerán muertos en la tierra de los Caldeos, Y traspasados en sus calles.”

5 F or Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the Lord of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

Porque ni Israel ni Judá han sido abandonados Por su Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos, Aunque su tierra está llena de culpa Delante del Santo de Israel.

6 F lee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.

Huyan de en medio de Babilonia, Y salve cada uno su vida. No perezcan por su culpa, Pues éste es el tiempo de la venganza del Señor; El le dará su pago.

7 B abylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Copa de oro ha sido Babilonia en la mano del Señor, Que embriagaba toda la tierra. De su vino bebieron las naciones; Se enloquecieron, por tanto, las naciones.

8 B abylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

De repente cae Babilonia y se hace pedazos. Den gemidos por ella, Traigan bálsamo para su dolor; Quizá se cure.

9 W e would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

Quisimos curar a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado; Déjenla, y vayamos cada cual a su tierra, Porque ha llegado al cielo su juicio, Se ha elevado hasta las nubes.

10 T he Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

El Señor ha sacado a la luz nuestra justicia; Vengan y contemos en Sion La obra del Señor nuestro Dios.

11 M ake bright the arrows; gather the shields: the Lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.

Afilen las flechas, llenen las aljabas; El Señor ha despertado el espíritu de los reyes de Media, Porque Su plan contra Babilonia es destruirla; Porque ésta es la venganza del Señor, la venganza de Su templo.

12 S et up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the Lord hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

Levanten bandera contra los muros de Babilonia; Refuercen la guardia, Pongan centinelas, Preparen emboscadas; Porque el Señor ha decidido, y también ejecutará Lo que habló acerca de los habitantes de Babilonia.

13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.

Oh, tú, que moras junto a muchas aguas, Rica en tesoros, Ha llegado tu fin, El término de tu codicia.

14 T he Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

El Señor de los ejércitos ha jurado por sí mismo: “Ciertamente te llenaré de hombres como langostas, Y entonarán contra ti gritos de victoria.”

15 H e hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

El es el que hizo la tierra con Su poder, El que estableció el mundo con Su sabiduría, Y con Su inteligencia extendió los cielos.

16 W hen he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

Cuando El emite Su voz, hay tumulto de aguas en los cielos, Y hace subir las nubes desde los confines de la tierra. El produce los relámpagos para la lluvia, Y saca el viento de Sus depósitos.

17 E very man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Toda la humanidad es necia, falta de conocimiento; Se avergüenza todo orfebre de sus ídolos, Porque sus imágenes fundidas son engaño, Y no hay aliento en ellas.

18 T hey are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Vanidad son, obra ridícula; En el tiempo de su castigo perecerán.

19 T he portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.

No es como estas cosas la porción de Jacob; Porque El es el Hacedor de todo, Y de la tribu de Su heredad; El Señor de los ejércitos es Su nombre.

20 T hou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

El dice: “Eres Mi mazo, Mi arma de guerra; Contigo destrozaré naciones, Contigo destruiré reinos,

21 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

Contigo destrozaré el caballo y a su jinete, Contigo destrozaré el carro y al que lo conduce,

22 w ith thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

Contigo destrozaré al hombre y a la mujer, Contigo destrozaré al anciano y al joven, Contigo destrozaré al joven y a la virgen,

23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

Contigo destrozaré al pastor y su rebaño, Contigo destrozaré al labrador y su yunta Y contigo destrozaré a los gobernadores y a los magistrados.

24 A nd I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord.

Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los habitantes de Caldea Todo el mal que han hecho en Sion Delante de los ojos de ustedes,” declara el Señor.

25 B ehold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

“Yo estoy contra ti, monte destructor, Que destruyes toda la tierra,” declara el Señor. “Extenderé Mi mano contra ti, Te haré rodar desde las peñas Y te reduciré a monte quemado.

26 A nd they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the Lord.

Y no tomarán de ti piedra angular, Ni piedra para cimientos, Pues desolación eterna serás,” declara el Señor.

27 S et ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

Levanten señal (bandera) en la tierra, Toquen trompeta entre las naciones. Reúnan las naciones contra ella, Convoquen contra ella los reinos de Ararat, Mini y Asquenaz; Nombren contra ella capitán, Hagan subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

28 P repare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.

Reúnan a las naciones contra ella, A los reyes de Media, A sus gobernadores, a todos sus magistrados Y a toda la tierra de su dominio.

29 A nd the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

La tierra tiembla y se retuerce, Porque se cumplen los designios del Señor contra Babilonia De hacer de la tierra de Babilonia Una desolación, sin habitantes.

30 T he mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

Han dejado de luchar los valientes de Babilonia, Permanecen en las fortalezas; Se han agotado sus fuerzas, Se han vuelto como mujeres; Han sido incendiadas sus moradas, Rotos están sus cerrojos.

31 O ne post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

Un correo corre al encuentro de otro Y un mensajero al encuentro de otro, Para decirle al rey de Babilonia Que su ciudad ha sido tomada de un extremo al otro.

32 a nd that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

También los vados han sido ocupados, Y quemados a fuego los juncos, Y los guerreros están aterrados.

33 F or thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “La hija de Babilonia es como una era Al tiempo de ser pisoteada; Dentro de poco, le llegará el tiempo de la siega.”

34 N ebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

“Me ha devorado y aplastado Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, Me ha dejado como vaso vacío, Me ha tragado como un monstruo, Ha llenado su estómago de mis delicias, Me ha expulsado.

35 T he violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

Caiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha a mí y a mi carne,” Dirá la moradora de Sion. “Caiga mi sangre sobre los habitantes de Caldea,” Dirá Jerusalén.

36 T herefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor: “Yo defenderé tu causa, Y ejecutaré tu venganza; Secaré su mar Y haré que se sequen sus manantiales.

37 A nd Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.

Y Babilonia se convertirá en escombros, en guarida de chacales, En objeto de horror y de burla, sin habitantes.

38 T hey shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions’ whelps.

A una rugirán como leones, Gruñirán como cachorros de león.

39 I n their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the Lord.

Cuando entren en calor, les serviré su banquete Y los embriagaré, para que se diviertan, Duerman un sueño eterno Y no despierten,” declara el Señor.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

“Los haré bajar como corderos al matadero, Como carneros y machos cabríos.

41 H ow is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

¡Cómo ha sido tomada Sesac (Babilonia), Y arrebatada la gloria de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo se ha convertido Babilonia en objeto de horror entre las naciones!

42 T he sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

El mar ha subido sobre Babilonia; Con la multitud de sus olas ha sido cubierta.

43 H er cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

Sus ciudades se han convertido en desolación, En sequedal y lugar desolado; Una tierra en la cual nadie habita, Y por la cual ningún hijo de hombre pasa.

44 A nd I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

Y castigaré a Bel en Babilonia, Sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado, Y no afluirán más a él las naciones. Aun la muralla de Babilonia caerá.

45 M y people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord.

Salgan de en medio de ella, pueblo Mío, Y salve cada uno su vida Del ardor de la ira del Señor.

46 A nd lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

Y que no desmaye su corazón, Ni teman al rumor que se oirá en la tierra; Porque el rumor vendrá un año, Y después otro rumor en otro año, Y habrá violencia en la tierra Con gobernante contra gobernante.

47 T herefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

Por tanto, vienen días En que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia. Toda su tierra será avergonzada, Y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

48 T hen the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the Lord.

Entonces gritarán de gozo sobre Babilonia El cielo y la tierra y todo lo que en ellos hay, Porque del norte vendrán a ella destructores,” declara el Señor.

49 A s Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.

Ciertamente caerá Babilonia por los muertos de Israel, Como también por Babilonia han caído los muertos de toda la tierra.

50 Y e that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

Los que escaparon de la espada, Caminen, no se detengan; Acuérdense desde lejos del Señor, Y venga Jerusalén a su memoria.

51 W e are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the Lord’s house.

Estamos avergonzados porque hemos oído la afrenta; La deshonra ha cubierto nuestros rostros, Porque extranjeros han entrado En los santuarios de la casa del Señor.

52 W herefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

“Por tanto, vienen días,” declara el Señor, “en que castigaré a sus ídolos, Y por toda su tierra gemirán los heridos de muerte.

53 T hough Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord.

Aunque Babilonia ascienda a los cielos, Y aunque fortifique en lo alto su baluarte, De Mi parte llegarán destructores a ella,” declara el Señor.

54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

¡Clamor de gritos desde Babilonia, Y de gran destrucción de la tierra de los Caldeos!

55 b ecause the Lord hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

Porque el Señor destruirá a Babilonia, Y hará desaparecer de ella su gran bullicio. Bramarán sus olas como muchas aguas; Resonará el estruendo de sus voces.

56 b ecause the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the Lord God of recompences shall surely requite.

Porque viene contra ella, contra Babilonia, el destructor, Sus valientes serán apresados, Quebrados están sus arcos; Porque Dios es el Señor de retribuciones, Ciertamente dará la paga.

57 A nd I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

“Yo embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, A sus gobernantes, a sus magistrados y a sus valientes, Y dormirán un sueño eterno y no despertarán,” Declara el Rey cuyo nombre es el Señor de los ejércitos.

58 T hus saith the Lord of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “La ancha muralla de Babilonia será totalmente arrasada, Y sus altas puertas quemadas; Los pueblos habrán trabajado en vano, Y las naciones sólo para el fuego se habrán fatigado.”

59 T he word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.

Mensaje que el profeta Jeremías mandó a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando fue con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia en el año cuarto de su reinado. (Seraías era jefe de abastecimientos.)

60 S o Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

Escribió, pues, Jeremías en un solo rollo toda la calamidad que había de venir sobre Babilonia, es decir, todas estas palabras que han sido escritas acerca de Babilonia.

61 A nd Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

Entonces Jeremías dijo a Seraías: “Tan pronto llegues a Babilonia, lee en voz alta todas estas palabras,

62 t hen shalt thou say, O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

y di: ‘Oh Señor, Tú has hablado acerca de este lugar, de destruirlo hasta que no quede morador en ella, ya sea hombre o animal, sino que desolación eterna será.’

63 A nd it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

Y tan pronto termines de leer este rollo, le atarás una piedra y lo arrojarás en medio del Eufrates,

64 a nd thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary.

y dirás: ‘Así se hundirá Babilonia y no se levantará más, por la calamidad que traeré sobre ella; extenuados sucumbirán.’” Hasta aquí las palabras de Jeremías.
