1 T he priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance.

“Los sacerdotes Levitas, toda la tribu de Leví, no tendrán porción ni heredad con el resto de Israel. Ellos comerán de las ofrendas encendidas al Señor y de Su porción.

2 T herefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

No tendrán heredad entre sus hermanos; el Señor es su heredad, como les ha prometido.

3 A nd this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

“Este será el derecho de los sacerdotes de parte del pueblo, de los que ofrecen como sacrificio buey u oveja: darán para el sacerdote la espaldilla, las quijadas y el cuajar.

4 T he firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

Le darás las primicias de tu grano, de tu vino nuevo, de tu aceite y del primer esquileo (corte de lana) de tus ovejas.

5 F or the Lord thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the Lord, him and his sons for ever.

Porque el Señor tu Dios lo ha escogido, a él y a sus hijos de entre todas tus tribus, para que esté allí y sirva en el nombre del Señor, para siempre.

6 A nd if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the Lord shall choose;

“Y si un Levita sale de alguna de tus ciudades, de cualquier parte de Israel en que resida, y llega con todo el deseo de su alma al lugar que el Señor escoja,

7 t hen he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the Lord.

él ministrará en el nombre del Señor su Dios, como todos sus hermanos Levitas que están allí delante del Señor.

8 T hey shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

Comerán porciones iguales, excepto lo que reciban de la venta de sus patrimonios. Prohibición de las Costumbres Paganas

9 W hen thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

“Cuando entres en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da, no aprenderás a hacer las cosas abominables de esas naciones.

10 T here shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

No sea hallado en ti nadie que haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego, ni quien practique adivinación, ni hechicería, o que sea agorero, o hechicero,

11 o r a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

o encantador, o adivino, o espiritista, ni quien consulte a los muertos.

12 F or all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Porque cualquiera que hace estas cosas es abominable al Señor; y por causa de estas abominaciones el Señor tu Dios expulsará a esas naciones de delante de ti.

13 T hou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.

Serás intachable delante del Señor tu Dios.

14 F or these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Porque esas naciones que vas a desalojar escuchan a los que practican hechicería y a los adivinos, pero a ti el Señor tu Dios no te lo ha permitido.

15 T he Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Un profeta de en medio de ti, de tus hermanos, como yo, te levantará el Señor tu Dios; a él oirán.

16 a ccording to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

Esto es conforme a todo lo que pediste al Señor tu Dios en Horeb el día de la asamblea, diciendo: ‘No vuelva yo a oír la voz del Señor mi Dios, no vuelva a ver este gran fuego, no sea que muera.’

17 A nd the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

Y el Señor me dijo: ‘Bien han hablado en lo que han dicho.

18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

‘Un profeta como tú levantaré de entre sus hermanos, y pondré Mis palabras en su boca, y él les hablará todo lo que Yo le mande.

19 A nd it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

‘Y sucederá que a cualquiera que no oiga Mis palabras que él ha de hablar en Mi nombre, Yo mismo le pediré cuenta.

20 B ut the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

‘Pero el profeta que hable con orgullo en Mi nombre una palabra que Yo no le haya mandado hablar, o que hable en el nombre de otros dioses, ese profeta morirá.’

21 A nd if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

Y si dices en tu corazón: ‘¿Cómo conoceremos la palabra que el Señor no ha hablado?’

22 w hen a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Cuando un profeta hable en el nombre del Señor, si lo que fue dicho no acontece ni se cumple, ésa es palabra que el Señor no ha hablado; con arrogancia la ha hablado el profeta; no tendrás temor de él.
