1 F rom whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

¿De dónde vienen las guerras y los conflictos entre ustedes ? ¿No vienen de las pasiones que combaten en sus miembros ?

2 Y e lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Ustedes codician y no tienen, por eso cometen homicidio. Son envidiosos y no pueden obtener, por eso combaten y hacen guerra. No tienen, porque no piden.

3 Y e ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Piden y no reciben, porque piden con malos propósitos, para gastar lo en sus placeres.

4 Y e adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

¡ Oh almas adúlteras (infieles)! ¿No saben ustedes que la amistad del mundo es enemistad hacia Dios ? Por tanto, el que quiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.

5 D o ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

¿O piensan que la Escritura dice en vano: “Dios celosamente anhela el Espíritu que ha hecho morar en nosotros?”

6 B ut he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Pero El da mayor gracia. Por eso dice: “ Dios resiste a los soberbios pero da gracia a los humildes.”

7 S ubmit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Por tanto, sométanse a Dios. Resistan, pues, al diablo y huirá de ustedes.

8 D raw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Acérquense a Dios, y El se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, pecadores; y ustedes de doble ánimo (que dudan), purifiquen sus corazones.

9 B e afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

Aflíjanse, laméntense y lloren. Que su risa se convierta en lamento y su gozo en tristeza.

10 H umble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Humíllense en la presencia del Señor y El los exaltará.

11 S peak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Hermanos, no hablen mal los unos de los otros. El que habla mal de un hermano o juzga a su hermano, habla mal de la ley y juzga a la ley. Pero si tú juzgas a la ley, no eres cumplidor de la ley, sino juez de ella.

12 T here is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Sólo hay un Legislador y Juez, que es poderoso para salvar y para destruir. Pero tú, ¿quién eres que juzgas a tu prójimo ? La Incertidumbre de la Vida

13 G o to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

Oigan ahora, ustedes que dicen: “Hoy o mañana iremos a tal o cual ciudad y pasaremos allá un año, haremos negocio y tendremos ganancia.”

14 w hereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Sin embargo, ustedes no saben cómo será su vida mañana. Sólo son un vapor que aparece por un poco de tiempo y luego se desvanece.

15 F or that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

Más bien, debieran decir: Si el Señor quiere, viviremos y haremos esto o aquello.

16 B ut now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

Pero ahora se jactan en su arrogancia. Toda jactancia semejante es mala.

17 T herefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

A aquél, pues, que sabe hacer lo bueno y no lo hace, le es pecado.
