1 T he priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance.

»Los sacerdotes levitas, es decir, toda la tribu de Leví, no recibirán en Israel ningún terreno en propiedad. Sólo participarán de las ofrendas quemadas al Señor y de lo que le pertenece.

2 T herefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

No tendrán ninguna propiedad entre sus hermanos, porque su propiedad es el Señor, como ya él se lo ha dicho.

3 A nd this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

A lo que tendrán derecho los sacerdotes, por parte del pueblo, es a los bueyes o corderos que se ofrezcan en sacrificio, de los cuales se les dará la espaldilla, las quijadas y el cuajar.

4 T he firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

También les darás las primicias de tu grano, de tu vino y de tu aceite, y las primicias de la lana de tus ovejas.

5 F or the Lord thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the Lord, him and his sons for ever.

El Señor tu Dios los ha escogido de entre todas tus tribus, para que él y sus hijos estén siempre atentos a servir en su nombre.

6 A nd if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the Lord shall choose;

»Cuando un levita salga de alguna de las ciudades israelitas donde haya vivido, y con todo el deseo de su alma llegue al lugar que el Señor escoja,

7 t hen he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the Lord.

ministrará en el nombre del Señor su Dios, como lo hacen todos sus hermanos levitas que estén allí delante del Señor.

8 T hey shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

Además de sus patrimonios, recibirá para comer una ración igual a la que reciben los otros. Amonestación contra costumbres paganas

9 W hen thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

»Cuando entres a la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da, no cometas los mismos actos repugnantes que practican esas naciones.

10 T here shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

Que no haya en ti nadie que haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego, ni nadie que practique la adivinación, ni sea agorero, ni sortílego, ni hechicero,

11 o r a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

ni encantador, ni adivino, ni mago, ni nadie que consulte a los muertos.

12 F or all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Al Señor le repugnan todos los que hacen estas cosas, y precisamente por estos actos repugnantes el Señor tu Dios va a expulsar de tu presencia a estas naciones.

13 T hou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.

Delante del Señor tu Dios debes ser perfecto,

14 F or these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

porque las naciones de las que vas a tomar posesión prestan oído a los agoreros y a los adivinos, pero a ti el Señor tu Dios no te permite hacer eso. Dios promete un profeta como Moisés

15 T he Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

»El Señor tu Dios hará que surja en medio de ti, de entre tus hermanos, un profeta como yo. A él deberán escuchar,

16 a ccording to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

tal y como le pediste al Señor tu Dios el día de la asamblea en Horeb, cuando dijiste: “No quiero volver a oír la voz del Señor mi Dios, ni tampoco quiero volver a ver tan impresionante fuego, pues no quiero morir.”

17 A nd the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

El Señor me dijo: “Esto que dicen está muy bien.

18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

Voy a hacer que de entre sus hermanos surja un profeta como tú. Pondré mis palabras en sus labios, y él les comunicará todo lo que yo le ordene decir.

19 A nd it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Pero yo le pediré cuentas a todo el que no atienda las palabras que ese profeta proclame en mi nombre.

20 B ut the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

Y el profeta a quien yo no le haya ordenado hablar, o que hable en nombre de otros dioses pero pretenda hablar en mi nombre, será condenado a muerte.

21 A nd if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

Tal vez digas en tu corazón: ‘¿Y cómo vamos a saber si esa palabra no proviene del Señor?’

22 w hen a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Tú no tengas miedo de ese profeta, que si llega a hablar en mi nombre y sus palabras no se cumplen ni se hacen realidad, eso hará ver que yo, el Señor, no he hablado, y que tal profeta habló con arrogancia.”
