1 T hen they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

Un día los filisteos atacaron la ciudad de Keila para saquear sus eras, y cuando le dijeron a David lo que sucedía,

2 T herefore David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

éste fue y consultó al Señor. Le preguntó: «¿Puedo ir y atacar a los filisteos?» Y el Señor le respondió: «Sí, atácalos y libera a los habitantes de Keila»

3 A nd David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

Pero los que lo acompañaban le dijeron: «Aun cuando vivimos aquí en Judá, lejos de los filisteos, éstos nos infunden temor. Si vamos a Keila para luchar contra su ejército, ¡nuestro miedo será mayor!»

4 T hen David enquired of the Lord yet again. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

David volvió a consultar al Señor, y el Señor le dijo: «Date prisa y ve a Keila, porque yo pondré a los filisteos en tus manos.»

5 S o David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

Entonces David fue con sus hombres a Keila, y pelearon contra los filisteos, y los derrotaron y se llevaron sus ganados. Así libró David a los habitantes de Keila.

6 A nd it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

Cuando Abiatar hijo de Ajimélec salió huyendo en busca de David, llevaba el efod consigo.

7 A nd it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

Saúl se enteró de que David estaba en Keila, y pensó: «Dios lo ha puesto en mis manos. David mismo se ha entregado al encerrarse en la ciudad y ponerse tras sus puertas y cerrojos.»

8 A nd Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

Entonces Saúl reunió a su ejército para ir a Keila y sitiar la ciudad con David y sus hombres adentro,

9 A nd David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

pero David entendió el mal que Saúl tramaba contra él, así que le pidió al sacerdote Abiatar que llevara el efod,

10 T hen said David, O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

y consultó al Señor: «Dios de Israel, yo soy tu siervo y entiendo que Saúl piensa venir a Keila y destruir la ciudad por culpa mía.

11 W ill the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.

¿Van a ponerme en sus manos los habitantes de esta ciudad? ¿Realmente va a venir Saúl, como me han dicho? Señor, Dios de Israel, yo te ruego que me digas si esto va a suceder.» Y el Señor le dijo: «Así es. Saúl va a venir.»

12 T hen said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the Lord said, They will deliver thee up.

Y David volvió a preguntarle: «¿Nos van a entregar los habitantes de la ciudad, a mí y a mis hombres, al poder de Saúl?» Y el Señor respondió: «Sí, los van a entregar.»

13 T hen David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.

Entonces David salió de Keila, junto con sus seiscientos hombres, y anduvieron errantes de un lugar a otro. Y cuando Saúl supo que David había huido de Keila, desistió de ir allá.

14 A nd David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

Así, David se quedó en las fortalezas del desierto, y vivió en un monte del desierto de Zif; y aunque Saúl lo buscaba todos los días, el Señor le impidió encontrarlo.

15 A nd David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

Como David sabía que Saúl lo buscaba para matarlo, se quedó escondido en Hores, en el desierto de Zif.

16 A nd Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

Y un día, Jonatán hijo de Saúl fue a Hores para visitar a David, y lo animó a no perder su confianza en Dios.

17 A nd he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

Le dijo: «No tengas miedo, David, que mi padre no va a encontrarte. Yo estoy seguro de que tú vas a ser rey de Israel, y de que yo seré el segundo en importancia. Eso, hasta Saúl mi padre lo sabe.»

18 A nd they two made a covenant before the Lord: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

Y después de que los dos hicieron un pacto delante del Señor, David se quedó en Hores y Jonatán se regresó a su casa.

19 T hen came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

Pero los habitantes de Zif fueron a Gabaa para decirle a Saúl: «David está escondido en nuestras tierras, en las peñas de Horeb, y más exactamente en la colina de Jaquilá, al sur del desierto.

20 N ow therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.

Si Su Majestad se da prisa, nosotros lo pondremos en sus manos, para que Su Majestad cumpla con él sus propósitos.»

21 A nd Saul said, Blessed be ye of the Lord; for ye have compassion on me.

Y Saúl les dijo: «¡Que el Señor los bendiga por haberse compadecido de mí!

22 G o, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.

Pueden irse, pero averigüen dónde está su escondite, y si alguien lo ha visto por allí, porque me han dicho que él es muy astuto.

23 S ee therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

Fíjense bien y averigüen dónde se esconde, y vuelvan con una información segura. Entonces yo iré con ustedes, y si David está en sus tierras, yo lo voy a buscar entre los miles que hay en Judá.»

24 A nd they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

Los habitantes de Zif se despidieron de Saúl y se fueron a sus tierras. Para entonces, David y sus hombres se encontraban en Maón, al sur del desierto de Arabá.

25 S aul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

Y cuando David supo que Saúl y sus soldados lo perseguían, bajó a la peña y se quedó en el desierto de Maón. Pero Saúl lo supo y lo persiguió hasta allá.

26 A nd Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

Por un costado del monte iba Saúl persiguiendo a David, mientras David y sus hombres iban de prisa por el otro lado tratando de escapar, pues les había cerrado el paso y estaba a punto de capturarlos.

27 B ut there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

Pero Saúl recibió un mensaje urgente, que decía: «Los filisteos han invadido tus tierras. Ven pronto a protegerlas.»

28 W herefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.

Entonces Saúl dejó de perseguir a David, y regresó para luchar contra los filisteos. Por eso el lugar se llama Sela Hamajlecot.

29 A nd David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.

David, por su parte, se fue de allí y se quedó a vivir cerca de las fortalezas de Engadí.
