1 N ow it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

Al tercer día, Ester se puso su vestido real y entró en el patio interior de la casa del rey, justamente frente al aposento real. Allí, en el aposento real, estaba el rey sentado en su trono,

2 A nd it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

y al ver a la reina Ester en el patio, la vio con mucho agrado y extendió hacia ella el cetro de oro que tenía en la mano. Ester se acercó entonces y tocó la punta del cetro,

3 T hen said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

mientras el rey le decía: «¿Qué te pasa, reina Ester? ¿Qué es lo que deseas? ¡Aun la mitad del reino te será concedido!»

4 A nd Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.

Y Ester dijo: «Dígnese Su Majestad asistir hoy con Amán al banquete que para Su Majestad he preparado.»

5 T hen the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

El rey respondió: «De prisa, llamen a Amán, y hagan lo que Ester ha dicho.» Y así el rey fue con Amán al banquete que Ester había preparado.

6 A nd the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.

Ya en el banquete, y mientras bebían vino, el rey le dijo a Ester: «¿Cuál es tu petición, que te será concedida? ¿Qué es lo que deseas? ¡Aun la mitad del reino te será concedido!»

7 T hen answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;

Ester respondió: «Ésta es mi petición. Éste es mi deseo:

8 i f I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.

Si merezco que Su Majestad me vea con buenos ojos, y si Su Majestad se digna concederme lo que pido y deseo, le ruego venir con Amán a otro banquete que les prepararé mañana, y entonces haré lo que el rey ha ordenado.»

9 T hen went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.

Ese día Amán salió contento y rebosante de alegría; pero cuando vio que Mardoqueo estaba a la puerta del palacio del rey, y que no se levantaba ni se movía de su lugar, se llenó de ira contra él.

10 N evertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

Sin embargo, contuvo su enojo y se fue a su casa; allí mandó llamar a sus amigos y a Zeres, su mujer,

11 A nd Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

y les habló de sus muchas riquezas y de sus muchos hijos, y de todo aquello con que el rey le había engrandecido y honrado por encima de los príncipes y siervos del rey.

12 H aman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.

Y añadió: «Incluso la reina Ester no invitó a nadie más al banquete que ella había preparado para el rey, sino sólo a mí; y también me ha invitado para el banquete de mañana con el rey.

13 Y et all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.

Pero todo esto no me sirve de nada cada vez que veo al judío Mardoqueo sentado a la puerta del rey.»

14 T hen said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

Entonces Zeres, su mujer, le aconsejó, y también todos sus amigos: «Que hagan una horca de cincuenta codos de altura. Y mañana, cuando veas al rey, pídele que cuelguen allí a Mardoqueo. Y tú, ve con el rey al banquete, y alégrate y pásalo bien.» Esto le pareció bien a Amán, y mandó preparar la horca.
