1 T hen came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

Algunos de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a verme, y se sentaron delante de mí.

2 A nd the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

Entonces la palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo:

3 S on of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

«Hijo de hombre, en lo íntimo de su corazón estos hombres adoran a los ídolos. ¡En la cara se les ve el tropiezo de su maldad! ¿Y todavía he de permitir que vengan a consultarme?

4 T herefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

Habla con ellos, pero diles de mi parte que yo, el Señor su Dios, he dicho: “A los israelitas que en lo íntimo de su corazón adoren a los ídolos y lleven marcado en el rostro el tropiezo de su maldad, y vengan a consultar al profeta, yo el Señor le responderé conforme a la multitud de sus ídolos,

5 t hat I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

y recuperaré el corazón del pueblo de Israel, pues por causa de sus ídolos se han apartado de mí.”

6 T herefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

»Por lo tanto, dile de mi parte al pueblo de Israel: “Apártense de sus ídolos y vuélvanse al Señor su Dios. Vuélvanles la espalda a todas sus acciones repugnantes.”

7 F or every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him by myself:

Porque si algún israelita, o algún extranjero que habite en Israel, viene en busca del profeta para consultarlo y preguntarle por mí, yo mismo le responderé, si es que se ha apartado de mí, y en lo íntimo de su corazón adora a los ídolos, y lleva marcado en el rostro el tropiezo de su maldad.

8 a nd I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

Yo me opondré a ese hombre, y lo pondré por ejemplo y escarmiento, y lo expulsaré de mi pueblo. Así sabrán que yo soy el Señor.

9 A nd if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

»Y si el profeta es engañado y profetiza, será porque yo, el Señor, lo engañé. Así que descargaré mi mano sobre él, y lo expulsaré de mi pueblo Israel.

10 A nd they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

Pero los dos recibirán el castigo de su maldad, lo mismo el profeta que quien lo haya consultado,

11 t hat the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord God.

para que el pueblo de Israel no se aparte más de mí ni se siga contaminando con todas sus rebeliones, sino que sea mi pueblo y yo sea su Dios.» Palabra de Dios el Señor. El castigo de Jerusalén es justo

12 T he word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

La palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo:

13 S on of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

«Hijo de hombre, si la tierra se obstinara en pecar contra mí, yo descargaría mi mano contra ella y le cortaría el abasto de pan para que sufriera de hambre, y acabaría con hombres y animales.

14 t hough these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

En caso de que allí vivieran Noé, Daniel y Job, sólo estos tres hombres se salvarían por su justicia. Palabra de Dios el Señor.

15 I f I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

»Y si yo hiciera que los animales feroces recorrieran la tierra para asolarla, y ésta quedara tan asolada que por causa de esas fieras nadie se atreviera a pasar por ella,

16 t hough these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

yo, su Señor y Dios, les juro que, si estos tres hombres vivieran en la tierra, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían, y la tierra quedaría desolada.

17 O r if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

»Y si yo mandara a la espada para atacar a la tierra, y le ordenara: “Espada, recorre la tierra y destruye a hombres y animales”,

18 t hough these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

yo, su Señor y Dios, les juro que, si estos tres hombres vivieran en ella, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían.

19 O r if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

»Y si yo enviara peste sobre la tierra y descargara sobre ella mi enojo y les quitara la vida a hombres y animales,

20 t hough Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

yo, su Señor y Dios, les digo que si Noé, Daniel y Job vivieran en ella, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían por su justicia.»

21 F or thus saith the Lord God; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

Por lo tanto, así ha dicho Dios el Señor: «¿Y no será peor cuando yo envíe contra Jerusalén mis cuatro castigos terribles, es decir, la espada, el hambre, las fieras y la peste, para acabar con todos sus hombres y animales?

22 Y et, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

Sin embargo, voy a dejar en ella un remanente de jóvenes y doncellas, que serán llevados a otro país. Pero ellos volverán a ustedes, y ustedes verán su conducta y sus acciones, y así se consolarán del mal que envié sobre Jerusalén y de todo lo que la hice sufrir.

23 A nd they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

Cuando ustedes vean su conducta y sus acciones, reconocerán que había razón en todo lo que hice contra ella.» Palabra de Dios el Señor.
