1 T hen fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.

Apoi, după paisprezece ani, m-am suit din nou la Ierusalim, cu Barnabas, luându-l şi pe Titus cu mine.

2 A nd I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

M-am suit acolo, în urma unei descoperiri, şi le-am arătat Evanghelia pe care o vestesc eu printre neamuri. Le-am arătat-o, în particular, celor recunoscuţi drept conducători, ca nu cumva să alerg sau să fi alergat în zadar.

3 B ut neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:

Dar nici chiar Titus, care era cu mine, n-a fost obligat să se circumcidă, cu toate că era grec,

4 a nd that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

din cauza fraţilor mincinoşi strecuraţi printre noi, care s-au furişat printre noi ca să ne pândească libertatea pe care o avem în Isus Cristos şi să ne poată înrobi.

5 t o whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

Nu am cedat lor nici măcar o clipă, pentru ca adevărul Evangheliei să rămână cu voi.

6 B ut of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:

Cei ce păreau a fi ceva, – orice ar fi fost ei, nu-mi pasă, pentru că Dumnezeu nu se uită la faţa omului –, ei, cei recunoscuţi drept conducători, nu mi-au adăugat nimic,

7 b ut contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

ci dimpotrivă, când au văzut că mie mi s-a încredinţat Evanghelia pentru cei necircumcişi, aşa cum lui Petru i s-a încredinţat Evanghelia pentru cei circumcişi

8 ( for he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

– fiindcă Cel Ce a lucrat în Petru, făcându-l apostol pentru cei circumcişi, a lucrat, de asemenea, şi în mine, trimiţându-mă la neamuri –,

9 a nd when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

deci, când Iacov, Chifa şi Ioan, care erau priviţi ca stâlpi, au cunoscut harul care mi-a fost dat, au căzut la învoială cu mine şi cu Barnabas, ca noi să mergem la neamuri, iar ei la cei circumcişi.

10 O nly they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

Au cerut doar un singur lucru: să ne amintim de săraci, lucru pe care m-am şi străduit să-l fac. Pavel îl confruntă pe Petru

11 B ut when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

Însă când Chifa a venit în Antiohia, m-am opus lui pe faţă, pentru că era de condamnat.

12 F or before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

Până când au venit nişte oameni din partea lui Iacov, el obişnuia să ia masa cu cei dintre neamuri, dar, când au venit ei, n-a mai făcut-o şi s-a separat, temându-se de cei circumcişi.

13 A nd the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

Şi ceilalţi iudei s-au unit cu el în această ipocrizie. Chiar şi Barnabas a fost dus în rătăcire prin ipocrizia lor.

14 B ut when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

Când am văzut că ei nu trăiesc după adevărul Evangheliei, i-am spus lui Chifa înaintea tuturor: „Dacă tu, care eşti iudeu, trăieşti ca unul dintre neamuri şi nu ca un iudeu, cum de obligi neamurile să trăiască ca nişte iudei?“

15 W e who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

Noi, care suntem iudei prin naştere, şi nu „păcătoşi“ dintre neamuri,

16 k nowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

ştim că un om nu este îndreptăţit prin faptele Legii, ci prin credinţa în Cristos Isus. De aceea şi noi am crezut în Isus ca să fim îndreptăţiţi prin credinţa în Cristos, şi nu prin faptele Legii, deoarece nimeni nu va fi îndreptăţit prin faptele Legii.

17 B ut if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

Dar dacă, în timp ce căutăm să fim îndreptăţiţi în Cristos, noi înşine am fost găsiţi „păcătoşi“, este oare atunci Cristos Unul Care încurajează păcatul ? Nicidecum!

18 F or if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

Însă, dacă eu zidesc din nou lucrurile pe care le-am dărâmat, mă arăt ca unul care încalcă Legea.

19 F or I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

Căci eu, prin Lege, am murit faţă de Lege ca să trăiesc pentru Dumnezeu. Am fost răstignit împreună cu Cristos

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

şi nu mai trăiesc eu, ci Cristos trăieşte în mine, iar viaţa pe care o trăiesc acum în trup o trăiesc prin credinţa în Fiul lui Dumnezeu, Care m-a iubit şi S-a dat pe Sine Însuşi pentru mine.

21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Eu nu resping harul lui Dumnezeu, pentru că, dacă dreptatea se primeşte prin Lege, atunci Cristos a murit degeaba.
