1 W oe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!

Vai de cei ce se coboară în Egipt pentru ajutor, bazându-se pe cai! Vai de cei ce-şi pun încrederea în mulţimea carelor şi în marea putere a călăreţilor şi nu privesc spre Sfântul lui Israel, nu caută ajutor la Domnul!

2 Y et he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.

Dar şi El este înţelept şi poate aduce dezastru. El nu-Şi retrage cuvintele, ci se va ridica împotriva neamului de răufăcători şi împotriva celor ce-i ajută pe cei ce săvârşesc nelegiuirea.

3 N ow the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

Egiptenii sunt doar oameni, nu Dumnezeu! Caii lor sunt doar carne, nu duh! Când Domnul Îşi întinde mâna, cel ce ajută se va împiedica, iar cel ajutat va cădea şi amândoi vor pieri împreună.

4 F or thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

Căci Domnul mi-a vorbit astfel: «Ca un leu, ca un leu tânăr ce mârâie asupra prăzii, – iar când e chemată o ceată de păstori împotriva lui nu se teme de strigătul lor şi nu-i pasă de zgomotul făcut de ei – aşa va coborî Domnul Oştirilor să se lupte pe muntele Sion, pe dealul Său.

5 A s birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

Cum îşi întind păsările aripile, aşa va ocroti Domnul Oştirilor Ierusalimul; îl va ocroti şi-l va elibera, îl va cruţa şi-l va scăpa.»

6 T urn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

Întoarceţi-vă la Cel de la Care v-aţi abătut atât de mult, israeliţilor!

7 F or in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.

Căci în ziua aceea fiecare îşi va arunca idolii de argint şi idolii de aur pe care vi i-au făcut mâinile voastre păcătoase.

8 T hen shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.

«Asiria va pieri printr-o sabie care nu este a unui om; o sabie care nu este a unui muritor o va nimici! Vor fugi de sabie, iar tinerii lor vor fi puşi la muncă forţată.

9 A nd he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

Fortăreaţa sa va cădea din cauza terorii şi, la vederea steagului, căpeteniile ei vor intra în panică», zice Domnul, al Cărui foc se află în Sion, şi al Cărui cuptor se află în Ierusalim.
