1 A nd Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

Avram a urcat din Egipt în Neghev împreună cu soţia lui şi cu tot ce avea, iar Lot a mers împreună cu el.

2 A nd Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

Avram era foarte bogat în turme, în argint şi în aur.

3 A nd he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Hai;

Din Neghev, el a călătorit până la Betel, până la locul în care şi-a întins cortul la început, între Betel şi Ai,

4 u nto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

loc în care el făcuse un altar mai înainte. Acolo Avram a chemat Numele Domnului.

5 A nd Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

Lot, care a mers împreună cu Avram, avea şi el turme de oi, cirezi de boi şi corturi.

6 A nd the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

Dar teritoriul locuit nu-i mai încăpea; aveau atât de multe bunuri, încât nu mai puteau locui împreună.

7 A nd there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

De asemenea, s-a iscat o ceartă între păstorii turmelor lui Avram şi păstorii turmelor lui Lot. În vremea aceea canaaniţii şi periziţii locuiau în Canaan.

8 A nd Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

Atunci Avram i-a zis lui Lot: „Să nu fie ceartă între mine şi tine, nici între păstorii mei şi păstorii tăi, căci suntem rude.

9 I s not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

Nu este oare toată ţara înaintea ta? Desparte-te de mine, te rog. Dacă tu o iei la stânga, eu o voi lua la dreapta, iar dacă tu o iei la dreapta, eu o voi lua la stânga.“

10 A nd Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

Lot şi-a ridicat privirea şi a văzut că toată Câmpia Iordanului până la Ţoar era bine udată, ca grădina Domnului, ca ţara Egiptului; aceasta s-a întâmplat înainte ca Domnul să fi distrus Sodoma şi Gomora.

11 T hen Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

Lot şi-a ales toată Câmpia Iordanului şi a pornit spre răsărit. Aşa s-au despărţit unul de celălalt.

12 A bram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

Avram a locuit în Canaan, în timp ce Lot a locuit între cetăţile din câmpie, unde şi-a aşezat cortul aproape de Sodoma.

13 B ut the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.

Oamenii din Sodoma erau răi, păcătuind peste măsură împotriva Domnului.

14 A nd the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

Domnul i-a spus lui Avram după ce Lot s-a despărţit de el: „Ridică-ţi privirea din locul în care eşti şi uită-te spre nord şi spre sud, spre răsărit şi spre apus,

15 f or all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

pentru că toată ţara pe care o vezi ţi-o voi da ţie şi seminţei tale pentru totdeauna.

16 A nd I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Îi voi face pe urmaşii tăi ca pulberea pământului, astfel încât, dacă cineva poate număra pulberea pământului, şi urmaşii tăi vor putea fi număraţi.

17 A rise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Scoală-te, străbate ţara în lung şi în lat, pentru că ţie ţi-o voi da.“

18 T hen Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.

Astfel, Avram şi-a mutat cortul şi a venit să se aşeze lângă stejarii lui Mamre, în Hebron, unde a zidit un altar Domnului.
