1 L o que vino como palabra del Señor al profeta Jeremías acerca de las naciones.

The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;

2 A Egipto, acerca del ejército de Faraón Necao, rey de Egipto, que estaba junto al Río Eufrates en Carquemis, al cual derrotó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá:

against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

3 “ ¡Preparen escudo y broquel, Y avancen hacia la batalla!

Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

4 ¡ Aparejen los caballos, Monten los corceles! ¡Preséntense con los cascos puestos! ¡Tengan bruñidas las lanzas, Vístanse las corazas!

Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.

5 ¿ Pero qué es lo que veo? Están aterrados, Retroceden, Y sus valientes están derrotados. En la huida buscan refugio Sin mirar atrás. Hay terror por todas partes ” Declara el Señor.

Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the Lord.

6 Q ue no pueda huir el ligero, Ni escapar el poderoso. En el norte, junto al Río Eufrates, Han tropezado y caído.

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

7 ¿ Quién es éste que sube como el Nilo, Cuyas aguas se agitan como ríos ?

Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

8 E s Egipto que sube como el Nilo, Cuyas aguas se agitan como ríos, Y ha dicho: “Subiré y cubriré esa tierra; Ciertamente destruiré la ciudad y sus habitantes.”

Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

9 S uban, caballos, y corran furiosos, carros, Para que avancen los poderosos: Etiopía y Put, que manejan escudo, Y los de Lud, que manejan y entesan el arco.

Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

10 P ero aquel día es para el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, Día de venganza, para vengarse de Sus enemigos; La espada devorará y se saciará Y se empapará con su sangre; Pues habrá una matanza para el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, En la tierra del norte, junto al Río Eufrates.

For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

11 S ube a Galaad y consigue bálsamo, Virgen, hija de Egipto. En vano has multiplicado los remedios; No hay curación para ti.

Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

12 H an oído las naciones de tu afrenta, Y tu clamor llena la tierra; Porque guerrero con guerrero ha tropezado, Y a una han caído ambos.

The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

13 P alabra que el Señor habló al profeta Jeremías acerca de la venida de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, para herir la tierra de Egipto:

The word that the Lord spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

14 “ Anuncien en Egipto y háganlo oír en Migdol, Háganlo oír también en Menfis y en Tafnes; Digan: ‘Ponte en pie y prepárate, Porque la espada ha devorado a los que te rodean.’

Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

15 ¿ Por qué han quedado postrados tus valientes ? No se mantienen en pie porque el Señor los ha derribado.

Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the Lord did drive them.

16 H an tropezado muchas veces; En verdad, han caído uno sobre otro. Entonces dijeron: ‘Levántate y volvamos A nuestro pueblo y a nuestra tierra natal, Ante la espada opresora.’

He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

17 A llí gritaron: ‘Faraón, rey de Egipto, es sólo un gran ruido; Ha dejado pasar el tiempo señalado.’

They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

18 “ Vivo Yo,” declara el Rey Cuyo nombre es el Señor de los ejércitos “Que ciertamente como se destaca el Tabor entre los montes, O el Carmelo junto al mar, así será el que ha de venir.

As I live, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

19 P repara tu equipaje para el destierro, Hija que moras en Egipto, Porque Menfis será convertida en desolación, Incendiada y despoblada.

O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

20 N ovilla hermosa es Egipto, Pero un tábano del norte viene; ya está al venir.

Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

21 T ambién sus mercenarios en medio de ella Son como becerros engordados; Porque también ellos se han vuelto atrás, Y a una han huido, no resistieron; Porque el día de su ruina ha venido sobre ellos, La hora de su castigo.

Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

22 S e oye su sonido como el de una serpiente, Pues el enemigo avanza como un ejército. Vienen contra ella con hachas, como leñadores.

The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

23 T alan su bosque,” declara el Señor “Aunque sea impenetrable, Aunque sean más numerosos que las langostas, Innumerables.

They shall cut down her forest, saith the Lord, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

24 E s avergonzada la hija de Egipto, Es entregada al poder del pueblo del norte.”

The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25 D ice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Voy a castigar a Amón de Tebas, a Faraón y a Egipto junto con sus dioses y sus reyes; a Faraón y a los que en él confían.

The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:

26 Y los entregaré en manos de los que buscan su vida, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y en manos de su siervo. Pero después será habitado como en los días de antaño,” declara el Señor.

and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the Lord.

27 “ Pero tú no temas, siervo Mío Jacob, Ni te atemorices, Israel; Porque te salvaré de lugar remoto, Y a tu descendencia de la tierra de su cautiverio. Y volverá Jacob, y estará tranquilo Y seguro, y nadie lo atemorizará.

But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

28 T ú no temas, siervo Mío Jacob,” declara el Señor, “porque Yo estoy contigo; Pues acabaré con todas las naciones Adonde te he expulsado, Pero no acabaré contigo, Sino que te castigaré con justicia, Pero de ninguna manera te dejaré sin castigo.”

Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
