1 P or tanto, amados, teniendo estas promesas, limpiémonos de toda inmundicia de la carne y del espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 A céptennos (Hagan lugar para nosotros) en su corazón. A nadie hemos ofendido, a nadie hemos corrompido, de nadie hemos tomado ventaja.

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

3 N o hablo para condenar los, porque ya he dicho antes que ustedes están en nuestro corazón para morir juntos y para vivir juntos.

I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

4 M ucha es mi confianza en ustedes. Tengo mucho orgullo de ustedes. Lleno estoy de consuelo y sobreabundo de gozo en toda nuestra aflicción. Pablo Confortado

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

5 P ues aun cuando llegamos a Macedonia, nuestro cuerpo no tuvo ningún reposo, sino que nos vimos atribulados por todos lados: por fuera, conflictos; por dentro, temores.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

6 P ero Dios, que consuela a los deprimidos, nos consoló con la llegada de Tito;

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

7 y no sólo con su llegada, sino también con el consuelo con que él fue consolado en ustedes, haciéndonos saber el gran afecto de ustedes, su llanto y su celo por mí; de manera que me regocijé aún más.

and not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

8 P orque si bien les causé tristeza con mi carta, no me pesa. Aun cuando me pesó, pues veo que esa carta les causó tristeza, aunque sólo por poco tiempo;

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

9 p ero ahora me regocijo, no de que fueron entristecidos, sino de que fueron entristecidos para arrepentimiento; porque fueron entristecidos conforme a la voluntad de Dios, para que no sufrieran pérdida alguna de parte nuestra.

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

10 P orque la tristeza que es conforme a la voluntad de Dios produce un arrepentimiento que conduce a la salvación, sin dejar pesar; pero la tristeza del mundo produce muerte.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

11 P orque miren, ¡qué solicitud ha producido esto en ustedes, esta tristeza piadosa, qué vindicación de ustedes mismos, qué indignación, qué temor, qué gran afecto, qué celo, qué castigo del mal! En todo han demostrado ser inocentes en el asunto.

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

12 A sí que, aunque les escribí, no fue por causa del que ofendió, ni por causa del ofendido, sino para que la solicitud de ustedes por nosotros les fuera manifestada delante de Dios.

Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

13 P or esta razón hemos sido consolados. Y aparte de nuestro consuelo, mucho más nos regocijamos por el gozo de Tito, pues su espíritu ha sido confortado por todos ustedes.

Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

14 P orque si en algo me he jactado con él acerca de ustedes, no fui avergonzado, sino que así como les hemos dicho todo con verdad, también nuestra jactancia ante Tito resultó ser la verdad.

For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

15 Y su amor hacia ustedes abunda aún más al acordarse de la obediencia de todos ustedes, y de cómo lo recibieron con temor y temblor.

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

16 M e gozo de que en todo tengo confianza en ustedes.

I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.
