1 E l ángel del Señor subió de Gilgal a Boquim y dijo a los Israelitas: “Yo los saqué a ustedes de Egipto y los conduje a la tierra que había prometido a sus padres y les dije: ‘Jamás quebrantaré Mi pacto con ustedes,

And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

2 y en cuanto a ustedes, no harán pacto con los habitantes de esta tierra; sus altares derribarán.’ Pero no Me han obedecido. ¿Qué es esto que han hecho?

And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

3 P or lo cual también dije: ‘No los echaré de delante de ustedes, sino que serán como espinas en su costado, y sus dioses les serán lazo para ustedes.’”

Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

4 C uando el ángel del Señor habló estas palabras a todos los Israelitas, el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró.

And it came to pass, when the angel of the Lord spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

5 Y llamaron a aquel lugar Boquim (Llorones). Y allí ofrecieron sacrificio al Señor. Muerte de Josué

And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the Lord.

6 D espués que Josué despidió al pueblo, los Israelitas fueron cada uno a su heredad para tomar posesión de la tierra.

And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

7 E l pueblo sirvió al Señor todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué, los cuales habían sido testigos de la gran obra que el Señor había hecho por Israel.

And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord, that he did for Israel.

8 J osué, hijo de Nun, siervo del Señor, murió a la edad de 110 años.

And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

9 Y lo sepultaron en el territorio de su heredad, en Timnat Sera, en la región montañosa de Efraín, al norte del Monte Gaas.

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

10 T ambién toda aquella generación fue reunida a sus padres. Y se levantó otra generación después de ellos que no conocía al Señor, ni la obra que El había hecho por Israel. Apostasía de Israel

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

11 E ntonces los Israelitas hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del Señor y sirvieron (adoraron) a los Baales.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim:

12 A bandonaron al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y siguieron a otros dioses de entre los dioses de los pueblos que estaban a su derredor; se postraron ante ellos y provocaron a ira al Señor.

and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger.

13 D ejaron al Señor y sirvieron a Baal y a Astarot.

And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14 L a ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y los entregó en manos de salteadores que los saquearon. También los vendió en mano de sus enemigos de alrededor, y ya no pudieron hacer frente a sus enemigos.

And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

15 P or dondequiera que iban, la mano del Señor estaba contra ellos para mal, tal como el Señor había dicho y como el Señor les había jurado, y se angustiaron en gran manera.

Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

16 E ntonces el Señor levantó jueces que los libraron de la mano de los que los saqueaban.

Nevertheless the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

17 S in embargo no escucharon a sus jueces, porque se prostituyeron siguiendo a otros dioses, y se postraron ante ellos. Se apartaron pronto del camino en que sus padres habían andado en obediencia a los mandamientos del Señor. No hicieron como sus padres.

And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the Lord; but they did not so.

18 C uando el Señor les levantaba jueces, el Señor estaba con el juez y los libraba de mano de sus enemigos todos los días del juez. Porque el Señor se compadecía por sus gemidos a causa de los que los oprimían y afligían.

And when the Lord raised them up judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

19 P ero cuando moría el juez, ellos volvían atrás y se corrompían aún más que sus padres, siguiendo a otros dioses, sirviéndoles (adorándolos) e inclinándose ante ellos. No dejaban sus costumbres ni su camino obstinado.

And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

20 E ntonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel, y dijo: “Por cuanto esta nación ha quebrantado Mi pacto que ordené a sus padres, y no ha escuchado Mi voz,

And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

21 t ampoco Yo volveré a expulsar de delante de ellos a ninguna de las naciones que Josué dejó cuando murió,

I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22 p ara probar por medio de ellas a Israel, a ver si guardan o no el camino del Señor, y andan en él como lo hicieron sus padres.”

that through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23 A sí pues, el Señor permitió que aquellas naciones se quedaran allí, sin expulsarlas enseguida, ni las entregó en manos de Josué.

Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
