1 C uando Jacob alzó los ojos, vio que Esaú venía y 400 hombres con él. Entonces dividió a los niños entre Lea y Raquel y las dos siervas.

And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.

2 P uso a las siervas con sus hijos delante, a Lea con sus hijos después, y a Raquel con José en último lugar.

And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

3 E ntonces Jacob se les adelantó, y se inclinó hasta el suelo siete veces hasta que llegó cerca de su hermano.

And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 E saú corrió a su encuentro y lo abrazó, y echándose sobre su cuello lo besó, y ambos lloraron.

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

5 E saú alzó sus ojos y vio a las mujeres y a los niños, y dijo: “¿Quiénes son éstos que vienen contigo? ” “Son los hijos que Dios en su misericordia ha concedido a tu siervo,” respondió Jacob.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.

6 E ntonces se acercaron las siervas con sus hijos, y se inclinaron.

Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

7 L ea también se acercó con sus hijos, y se inclinaron. Después José se acercó con Raquel, y se inclinaron.

And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

8 “ ¿Qué te propones con toda esta muchedumbre que he encontrado ?” preguntó Esaú. “Hallar gracia ante los ojos de mi señor, ” respondió Jacob.

And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.

9 P ero Esaú dijo: “Tengo bastante, hermano mío. Sea tuyo lo que es tuyo.”

And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.

10 P ero Jacob respondió: “No, te ruego que si ahora he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, tomes el presente de mi mano, porque veo tu rostro como uno ve el rostro de Dios, y me has recibido favorablemente.

And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

11 A cepta, te ruego, el presente que se te ha traído, pues Dios me ha favorecido, y porque yo tengo mucho.” Y le insistió, y él lo aceptó.

Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

12 E ntonces Esaú dijo: “Pongámonos en marcha y vámonos; yo iré delante de ti.”

And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

13 P ero él le dijo: “Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que debo cuidar de las ovejas y las vacas que están criando. Si los apuramos mucho, en un solo día todos los rebaños morirán.

And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.

14 A delántese ahora mi señor a su siervo; y yo avanzaré sin prisa, al paso del ganado que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue a mi señor en Seir.”

Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

15 Y Esaú dijo: “Permíteme dejarte parte de la gente que está conmigo.” “¿Para qué? Halle yo gracia ante los ojos de mi señor,” le respondió Jacob.

And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.

16 A quel mismo día regresó Esaú por su camino a Seir.

So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

17 J acob siguió hasta Sucot. Allí se edificó una casa e hizo cobertizos para su ganado. Por eso al lugar se le puso el nombre de Sucot. Jacob en Siquem

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

18 J acob llegó sin novedad a la ciudad de Siquem, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando vino de Padán Aram, y acampó frente a la ciudad.

And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.

19 Y la parcela de campo donde había plantado su tienda se la compró a los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, por 100 monedas (100 siclos, 1140 gr de plata).

And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.

20 A llí levantó un altar, y lo llamó: El Elohe Israel (Dios, el Dios de Israel).

And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.
