1 L a palabra de Jehová que vino al profeta Jeremías, acerca de las naciones.

The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;

2 C on respecto a Egipto: acerca del ejército del Faraón Necó, rey de Egipto, que estaba junto al río Eufrates en Carquemís, a quien destruyó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá.

against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

3 P reparad escudo y coraza, y acercaos a la batalla.

Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

4 U ncid caballos y montad, vosotros los jinetes, y poneos firmes con vuestros yelmos; limpiad las lanzas, vestíos las corazas.

Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.

5 ¿ Por qué los veo medrosos y retrocediendo? Sus valientes son batidos y huyen a la desbandada, sin volverse a mirar atrás; hay terror por doquier, dice Jehová.

Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the Lord.

6 N o puede huir el ligero, ni el valiente escapar; al norte junto a la ribera del Eufrates tropezaron y cayeron.

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

7 ¿ Quién es éste que sube como el Nilo, y como ríos cuyas aguas se entrechocan?

Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

8 E gipto es como el Nilo que crece, y como ríos cuyas aguas se entrechocan, y dijo: Subiré, cubriré la tierra, destruiré la ciudad y a los que en ella moran.

Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

9 S ubid, caballos, y alborotaos, carros y avancen los valientes; los etíopes y los de Put que manejan escudo, y los de Lud que manejan y entesan arco.

Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

10 P ues ese día será para Jehová Dios de los ejércitos día de venganza, para vengarse de sus enemigos; y la espada devorará y se saciará; y se embriagará de la sangre de ellos; porque hay un sacrificio para Jehová Dios de los ejércitos, en tierra del norte junto al río Eufrates.

For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

11 S ube a Galaad, y toma bálsamo, virgen hija de Egipto; por demás multiplicarás las medicinas; no hay curación para ti.

Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

12 L as naciones oyeron tu afrenta, y tu clamor llenó la tierra; porque el valiente tropezó contra el valiente, y cayeron ambos juntos.

The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

13 L a palabra que habló Jehová al profeta Jeremías acerca de la venida de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, para asolar la tierra de Egipto:

The word that the Lord spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

14 A nunciad en Egipto, y hacedlo saber en Migdol; también en Nof y en Tafnes; decid: Ponte en pie y prepárate, porque la espada ha devorado tu comarca.

Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

15 ¿ Por qué ha sido derribado tu forzudo Apis? No pudo mantenerse firme, porque Jehová le empujó.

Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the Lord did drive them.

16 H izo a muchos tropezar, y cada uno cayó sobre su compañero; y dijeron: Levántate y volvámonos a nuestro pueblo, y a la tierra de nuestro nacimiento, huyamos ante la espada irresistible.

He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

17 A llí gritaron: Faraón rey de Egipto no es más que ruido; dejó pasar el tiempo señalado.

They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

18 V ivo yo, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos, que como Tabor entre los montes, y como Carmel junto al mar, así vendrá.

As I live, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

19 H azte enseres de cautiverio, moradora hija de Egipto; porque Nof será un desierto, y será asolada hasta no quedar morador.

O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

20 B ecerra hermosa es Egipto; mas viene destrucción, del norte viene.

Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

21 T ambién sus soldados mercenarios en medio de ella son como becerros engordados; porque también ellos volvieron la espalda, huyeron todos sin pararse, porque vino sobre ellos el día de su quebrantamiento, el tiempo de su castigo.

Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

22 S u voz saldrá como de serpiente; porque patrullan con un ejército, y vienen a ella con hachas como cortadores de leña.

The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

23 C ortarán sus bosques, dice Jehová, aunque sean impenetrables; porque son más numerosos que langostas; son innumerables.

They shall cut down her forest, saith the Lord, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

24 S e avergonzará la hija de Egipto; es entregada en manos del pueblo del norte.

The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25 J ehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ha dicho: He aquí que yo castigo a Amón dios de Tebas, a Faraón, a Egipto, y a sus dioses y a sus reyes; así a Faraón como a los que en él confían.

The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:

26 Y los entregaré en manos de los que buscan su muerte, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y en manos de sus siervos; pero después será habitado como en los días pasados, dice Jehová.

and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the Lord.

27 P ero tú no temas, siervo mío Jacob, ni desmayes, Israel; porque he aquí que yo te salvaré de lejos, y a tu descendencia de la tierra de su cautividad. Y Jacob volverá a estar sosegado y tranquilo, y no habrá quién lo atemorice.

But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

28 T ú, siervo mío Jacob, no temas, dice Jehová, porque yo estoy contigo; porque destruiré a todas las naciones entre las cuales te he dispersado; pero a ti no te destruiré del todo, sino que te castigaré con medida, aunque no te dejaré sin castigo.

Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
