1 И отвечал Елифаз Феманитянин и сказал:

Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

2 п опытаемся мы к тебе слово, --не тяжело ли будет тебе? Впрочем кто может возбранить слову!

If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

3 В от, ты наставлял многих и опустившиеся руки поддерживал,

Behold, thou hast instructed many, And thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4 п адающего восставляли слова твои, и гнущиеся колени ты укреплял.

Thy words have upholden him that was falling, And thou hast made firm the feeble knees.

5 А теперь дошло до тебя, и ты изнемог; коснулось тебя, и ты упал духом.

But now it is come unto thee, and thou faintest; It toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

6 Б огобоязненность твоя не должна ли быть твоею надеждою, и непорочность путей твоих--упованием твоим?

Is not thy fear of God thy confidence, And the integrity of thy ways thy hope?

7 В спомни же, погибал ли кто невинный, и где праведные бывали искореняемы?

Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

8 К ак я видал, то оравшие нечестие и сеявшие зло пожинают его;

According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, And sow trouble, reap the same.

9 о т дуновения Божия погибают и от духа гнева Его исчезают.

By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of his anger are they consumed.

10 Р ев льва и голос рыкающего, и зубы скимнов сокрушаются;

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

11 м огучий лев погибает без добычи, и дети львицы рассеиваются.

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, And the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.

12 И вот, ко мне тайно принеслось слово, и ухо мое приняло нечто от него.

Now a thing was secretly brought to me, And mine ear received a whisper thereof.

13 С реди размышлений о ночных видениях, когда сон находит на людей,

In thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falleth on men,

14 о бъял меня ужас и трепет и потряс все кости мои.

Fear came upon me, and trembling, Which made all my bones to shake.

15 И дух прошел надо мною; дыбом стали волосы на мне.

Then a spirit passed before my face; The hair of my flesh stood up.

16 О н стал, --но я не распознал вида его, --только облик был пред глазами моими; тихое веяние, --и я слышу голос:

It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; A form was before mine eyes: There was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

17 ч еловек праведнее ли Бога? и муж чище ли Творца своего?

Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?

18 В от, Он и слугам Своим не доверяет и в Ангелах Своих усматривает недостатки:

Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; And his angels he chargeth with folly:

19 т ем более--в обитающих в храминах из брения, которых основание прах, которые истребляются скорее моли.

How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!

20 М ежду утром и вечером они распадаются; не увидишь, как они вовсе исчезнут.

Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: They perish for ever without any regarding it.

21 Н е погибают ли с ними и достоинства их? Они умирают, не достигнув мудрости.

Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.
