1 Т ак! у серебра есть источная жила, и у золота место, плавят.

Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine.

2 Ж елезо получается из земли; из камня выплавляется медь.

Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone.

3 п олагает предел тьме и тщательно разыскивает камень во мраке и тени смертной.

Man setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

4 В ырывают рудокопный колодезь в местах, забытых ногою, спускаются вглубь, висят зыблются вдали от людей.

He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.

5 З емля, на которой вырастает хлеб, внутри изрыта как бы огнем.

As for the earth, out of it cometh bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

6 К амни ее--место сапфира, и в ней песчинки золота.

The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it hath dust of gold.

7 С тези не знает хищная птица, и не видал ее глаз коршуна;

That path no bird of prey knoweth, Neither hath the falcon's eye seen it:

8 н е попирали ее скимны, и не ходил по ней шакал.

The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.

9 Н а гранит налагает он руку свою, с корнем опрокидывает горы;

He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.

10 в скалах просекает каналы, и все драгоценное видит глаз его;

He cutteth out channels among the rocks; And his eye seeth every precious thing.

11 о станавливает течение потоков и сокровенное выносит на свет.

He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

12 Н о где премудрость обретается? и где место разума?

But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

13 Н е знает человек цены ее, и она не обретается на земле живых.

Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

14 Б ездна говорит: не во мне она; и море говорит: не у меня.

The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.

15 Н е дается она за золото и не приобретается она за вес серебра;

It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

16 н е оценивается она золотом Офирским, ни драгоценным ониксом, ни сапфиром;

It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

17 н е равняется с нею золото и кристалл, и не выменяешь ее на сосуды из чистого золота.

Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

18 А о кораллах и жемчуге и упоминать нечего, и приобретение премудрости выше рубинов.

No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

19 Н е равняется с нею топаз Ефиопский; чистым золотом не оценивается она.

The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

20 О ткуда же исходит премудрость? и где место разума?

Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?

21 С окрыта она от очей всего живущего и от птиц небесных утаена.

Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens.

22 А ваддон и смерть говорят: ушами нашими слышали мы слух о ней.

Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.

23 Б ог знает путь ее, и Он ведает место ее.

God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof.

24 И бо Он прозирает до концов земли и видит под всем небом.

For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven;

25 К огда Он ветру полагал вес и располагал воду по мере,

To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.

26 к огда назначал устав дождю и путь для молнии громоносной,

When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;

27 т огда Он видел ее и явил ее, приготовил ее и еще испытал ее

Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.

28 и сказал человеку: вот, страх Господень есть истинная премудрость, и удаление от зла--разум.

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.
