1 A wise son his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

3 H e that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.

El que guarda su boca guarda su vida, pero el que mucho abre sus labios acaba en desastre.

4 A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

El perezoso desea y nada alcanza, mas los diligentes serán prosperados.

5 A righteous hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.

El justo aborrece la palabra mentirosa; el malvado se hace odioso e infame.

6 R ighteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

La justicia protege al perfecto de camino, pero la impiedad trastorna al pecador.

7 T here is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.

Hay quienes presumen de ricos y no tienen nada, y hay quienes pasan por pobres y tienen muchas riquezas.

8 T he ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.

Las riquezas de un hombre pueden ser el rescate de su vida, pero el pobre no escucha amenazas.

9 T he light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

La luz de los justos brilla alegremente, pero se apagará la lámpara de los malvados.

10 B y pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

Ciertamente la soberbia produce discordia, pero con los prudentes está la sabiduría.

11 W ealth by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase.

Las riquezas de vanidad disminuyen; el que recoge con mano laboriosa las aumenta.

12 H ope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire cometh to pass is a tree of life.

La esperanza que se demora es tormento del corazón; árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.

13 W hoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

El que menosprecia el precepto se perderá; el que teme el mandamiento será recompensado.

14 T he teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.

La instrucción del sabio es manantial de vida para librar de los lazos de la muerte.

15 G ood understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.

El buen juicio da gracia; el camino de los transgresores es duro.

16 E very prudent acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open folly.

Todo hombre prudente procede con sabiduría; el necio manifiesta su necedad.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.

El mal mensajero acarrea desgracia; el mensajero fiel acarrea salud.

18 P overty and shame shall be him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Pobreza y vergüenza tendrá el que menosprecia el consejo, pero el que acepta la corrección recibirá honra.

19 T he desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.

El deseo cumplido regocija el alma; apartarse del mal es abominable para los necios.

20 H e that walketh with wise becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.

El que anda entre sabios será sabio, pero el que se junta con necios saldrá mal parado.

21 E vil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

El mal persigue a los pecadores, pero los justos serán premiados con el bien.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

La herencia del bueno alcanzará a los hijos de sus hijos, pero la riqueza del pecador está guardada para el justo.

23 M uch food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.

24 H e that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

El que no aplica el castigo aborrece a su hijo; el que lo ama, lo corrige a tiempo.

25 T he righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.

El justo come hasta saciarse, pero el vientre de los malvados quedará vacío.
