1 T his, a second letter, beloved, I already write to you, in which I stir up, in the way of putting you in remembrance, your pure mind,

Amados, ésta es la segunda carta que os escribo. En ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento,

2 t o be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Saviour by your apostles;

para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y del mandamiento del Señor y Salvador, dado por vuestros apóstoles.

3 k nowing this first, that there shall come at close of the days mockers with mocking, walking according to their own lusts,

Sabed ante todo que en los últimos días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias pasiones

4 a nd saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for from the time the fathers fell asleep all things remain thus from beginning of creation.

y diciendo: «¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? Porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.»

5 F or this is hidden from them through their own wilfulness, that heavens were of old, and an earth, having its subsistence out of water and in water, by the word of God,

Estos ignoran voluntariamente que en el tiempo antiguo fueron hechos por la palabra de Dios los cielos y también la tierra, que proviene del agua y por el agua subsiste,

6 t hrough which the then world, deluged with water, perished.

por lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua.

7 B ut the present heavens and the earth by his word are laid up in store, kept for fire unto a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Pero los cielos y la tierra que existen ahora están reservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.

8 B ut let not this one thing be hidden from you, beloved, that one day with Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Pero, amados, no ignoréis que, para el Señor, un día es como mil años y mil años como un día.

9 L ord does not delay his promise, as some account of delay, but is longsuffering towards you, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

El Señor no retarda su promesa, según algunos la tienen por tardanza, sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.

10 B ut the day of Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.

Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche. Entonces los cielos pasarán con gran estruendo, los elementos ardiendo serán deshechos y la tierra y las obras que en ella hay serán quemadas.

11 A ll these things then being to be dissolved, what ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness,

Puesto que todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas, ¡cómo no debéis vosotros andar en santa y piadosa manera de vivir,

12 w aiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, by reason of which heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and elements, burning with heat, shall melt?

esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos, encendiéndose, serán deshechos, y los elementos, siendo quemados, se fundirán!

13 B ut, according to his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness.

Pero nosotros esperamos, según sus promesas, cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, en los cuales mora la justicia.

14 W herefore, beloved, as ye wait for these things, be diligent to be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Por eso, amados, estando en espera de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia ser hallados por él sin mancha e irreprochables, en paz.

15 a nd account the longsuffering of our Lord salvation; according as our beloved brother Paul also has written to you according to the wisdom given to him,

Y tened entendido que la paciencia de nuestro Señor es para salvación; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito

16 a s also in all epistles, speaking in them of these things; among which some things are hard to be understood, which the untaught and ill-established wrest, as also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.

en casi todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos e inconstantes tuercen (como también las otras Escrituras) para su propia perdición.

17 Y e therefore, beloved, knowing things before, take care lest, being led away along with the error of the wicked, ye should fall from your own stedfastness:

Así que vosotros, amados, sabiéndolo de antemano, guardaos, no sea que arrastrados por el error de los inicuos caigáis de vuestra firmeza.

18 b ut grow in grace, and in knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him glory both now and to day of eternity. Amen.

Antes bien, creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.
