1 A nd now hear, Jacob, my servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen:

»Ahora pues, oye, Jacob, siervo mío, Israel, a quien yo escogí:

2 t hus saith Jehovah, that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who helpeth thee, Fear not, Jacob, my servant, and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

Así dice Jehová, Hacedor tuyo y el que te formó desde el vientre, el cual te ayudará: No temas, siervo mío Jacob, tú, Jesurún, a quien yo escogí.

3 F or I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.

Porque yo derramaré aguas sobre el sequedal, ríos sobre la tierra seca. Mi espíritu derramaré sobre tu descendencia, y mi bendición sobre tus renuevos;

4 A nd they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the water-courses.

y brotarán entre la hierba, como los sauces junto a las riberas de las aguas.

5 O ne shall say, I am Jehovah's; and another shall call by the name of Jacob; and another shall write with his hand: Jehovah's, and surname by the name of Israel.

Éste dirá: “Yo soy de Jehová.” Otro se pondrá por nombre Jacob, y otro escribirá con su mano: “A Jehová”, y se apellidará con el nombre de Israel.

6 T hus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I the first, and I the last, and beside me there is no God.

»Así dice Jehová, Rey de Israel y su Redentor, Jehová de los ejércitos: Yo soy el primero y yo soy el último, y fuera de mí no hay Dios.

7 A nd who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? And the coming things, and those that shall happen, let them declare unto them.

¿Y quién proclamará lo venidero, lo declarará y lo pondrá en orden delante de mí, como hago yo desde que establecí el pueblo antiguo? ¡Que les anuncien lo que viene, lo que está por venir!

8 F ear not, neither be afraid. Have I not caused thee to hear from that time, and have declared it? and ye are my witnesses. Is there a +God beside me? yea, there is no Rock: I know not any.

No temáis ni os amedrentéis. ¿No te lo hice oír desde la antigüedad y te lo dije? Luego vosotros sois mis testigos. ¡No hay Dios sino yo! ¡No hay Roca, no conozco ninguna!» La insensatez de la idolatría

9 T hey that form a graven image are all of them vanity, and their delectable things are of no profit; and they are their own witnesses: they see not, nor know;—that they may be ashamed.

Los que modelan imágenes de talla, todos ellos son nada, y lo más precioso de ellos para nada es útil; y ellos mismos, para su confusión, son testigos de que los ídolos no ven ni entienden.

10 W ho hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

¿Quién fabrica un dios o quién funde una imagen que para nada es de provecho?

11 B ehold, all his fellows shall be ashamed; and the workmen are but men. Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up: they shall fear, they shall be ashamed together.

Todos los suyos serán avergonzados, porque los artífices mismos son seres humanos. Todos ellos se juntarán, se presentarán, se asombrarán y serán a una avergonzados.

12 T he iron-smith a chisel, and he worketh in the coals, and he fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm;—but he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he hath not drunk water, and he is faint.

El herrero toma la tenaza, trabaja en las brasas, le da forma con los martillos y trabaja en ello con la fuerza de su brazo; luego tiene hambre y le faltan las fuerzas; no bebe agua, y se desmaya.

13 T he worker in wood stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with red chalk; he formeth it with sharp tools, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of man: that it may remain in the house.

El carpintero tiende la regla, lo diseña con almagre, lo labra con los cepillos, le da figura con el compás, lo hace en forma de varón, a semejanza de un hermoso hombre, para tenerlo en casa.

14 W hen he heweth him down cedars, he taketh also a holm-oak and a terebinth—he chooseth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth a pine, and the rain maketh grow.

Corta cedros, toma ciprés y encina, que crecen entre los árboles del bosque; planta un pino, para que crezca con la lluvia.

15 A nd it shall be for a man to burn, and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; he kindleth it also, and baketh bread; he maketh also a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

De él se sirve luego el hombre para quemar, toma de ellos para calentarse; enciende también el horno y cuece panes; hace además un dios y lo adora; fabrica un ídolo y se arrodilla delante de él.

16 H e burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh, he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he is warm, and saith, Aha, I am become warm, I have seen the fire.

Una parte del leño la quema en el fuego; con ella prepara un asado de carne, lo come y se sacia. Después se calienta y dice: «¡Ah, me he calentado con este fuego!»

17 A nd with the remainder thereof he maketh a god, his graven image; he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me, for thou art my god.

Del sobrante hace un dios (un ídolo suyo), se postra delante de él, lo adora y le ruega diciendo: «¡Líbrame, porque tú eres mi dios!»

18 T hey have no knowledge, and understand not; for he hath plastered their eyes, that they may not see; and their hearts, that they may not understand.

No saben ni entienden, porque cerrados están sus ojos para no ver y su corazón para no entender.

19 A nd none taketh it to heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire, and have also baked bread upon the coals thereof, I have roasted flesh, and eaten, and with the rest thereof shall I make an abomination? shall I bow down to a block of wood?

No reflexiona para sí, no tiene conocimiento ni entendimiento para decir: «Parte de esto quemé en el fuego, sobre sus brasas cocí pan, asé carne y la comí. ¿Haré del resto de él una abominación? ¿Me postraré delante de un tronco de árbol?»

20 H e feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

De ceniza se alimenta; su corazón engañado lo desvía, para que no libre su alma ni diga: «¿No es pura mentira lo que tengo en mi mano derecha?» Jehová, Redentor de Israel

21 R emember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for thou art my servant; I have formed thee: thou art my servant, Israel; thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

«Acuérdate de estas cosas, Jacob, porque mi siervo eres, Israel. Yo te formé, siervo mío eres tú. ¡Israel, no me olvides!

22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Yo deshice como a una nube tus rebeliones y como a una niebla tus pecados; vuélvete a mí, porque yo te redimí.»

23 S ing, ye heavens; for Jehovah hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, the forest, and every tree therein! For Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

Cantad loores, cielos, porque Jehová lo hizo; gritad con júbilo, profundidades de la tierra. Prorrumpid, montes, en alabanza, y el bosque y todo árbol que hay en él, porque Jehová redimió a Jacob y en Israel será glorificado.

24 T hus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb: I Jehovah, the maker of all things; who alone stretched out the heavens, who did spread forth the earth by myself;

Así dice Jehová, tu Redentor, que te formó desde el vientre: «Yo Jehová, que lo hago todo, que despliego yo solo los cielos, que extiendo la tierra por mí mismo;

25 — he that frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

que deshago las señales de los adivinos y enloquezco a los agoreros; que hago volver atrás a los sabios y desvanezco su sabiduría.

26 t hat confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built up, and I will raise up their ruins;

Yo soy el que despierta la palabra de su siervo y lleva a cabo el plan de sus mensajeros; el que dice a Jerusalén: “Serás habitada”, y a las ciudades de Judá: “Serán reconstruidas y reedificaré sus ruinas.”

27 t hat saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers;

Yo soy el que dice a las profundidades: “¡Secaos! ¡Yo haré secar tus ríos!”

28 t hat saith of Cyrus, my shepherd, and he shall perform all my pleasure; even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

Yo soy el que dice de Ciro: “Es mi pastor y cumplirá todo lo que yo quiero, al decir a Jerusalén: ‘Serás edificada’, y al Templo: ‘Serán puestos tus cimientos.’”»
