1 A nd Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Jehová habló a Moisés y le dijo:

2 S end thou men, that they may search out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel. Ye shall send a man of every tribe of his fathers, each a prince among them.

«Envía unos hombres que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, la cual yo doy a los hijos de Israel; enviaréis un hombre por cada tribu paterna, todos ellos príncipes.»

3 A nd Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran: according to the commandment of Jehovah, all of them heads of the children of Israel.

Entonces los envió Moisés desde el desierto de Parán, conforme a la palabra de Jehová. Todos aquellos hombres eran príncipes de los hijos de Israel.

4 A nd these are their names: for the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;

Éstos son sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samúa hijo de Zacur.

5 f or the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;

De la tribu de Simeón, Safat hijo de Horí.

6 f or the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

De la tribu de Judá, Caleb hijo de Jefone.

7 f or the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;

De la tribu de Isacar, Igal hijo de José.

8 f or the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;

De la tribu de Efraín, Oseas hijo de Nun.

9 f or the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;

De la tribu de Benjamín, Palti hijo de Rafú.

10 f or the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;

De la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel hijo de Sodi.

11 f or the tribe of Joseph, for the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;

De la tribu de José, por la tribu de Manasés, Gadi hijo de Susi.

12 f or the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;

De la tribu de Dan, Amiel hijo de Gemali.

13 f or the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;

De la tribu de Aser, Setur hijo de Micael.

14 f or the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;

De la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbi hijo de Vapsi.

15 f or the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

De la tribu de Gad, Geuel hijo de Maqui.

16 T hese are the names of the men whom Moses sent to search out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Jehoshua.

Éstos son los nombres de los hombres que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra. A Oseas hijo de Nun le puso Moisés el nombre de Josué.

17 A nd Moses sent them to search out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way by the south and go up into the hill-country,

Los envió, pues, Moisés a reconocer la tierra de Canaán, diciéndoles: «Subid de aquí al Neguev y luego subid al monte.

18 a nd ye shall see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell in it, whether they are strong or weak, few or many;

Observad cómo es la tierra y el pueblo que la habita, si es fuerte o débil, escaso o numeroso;

19 a nd what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;

cómo es la tierra habitada, si es buena o mala; cómo son las ciudades habitadas, si son campamentos o plazas fortificadas,

20 a nd what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there are trees in it, or not. And take courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first grapes.

y cómo es el terreno, si es fértil o estéril, si en él hay árboles o no. Esforzaos y traed de los frutos del país.» Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.

21 A nd they went up, and searched out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, where one comes towards Hamath.

Ellos subieron y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, junto a la entrada de Hamat.

22 A nd they went up by the south, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. Now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

Subieron al Neguev y llegaron hasta Hebrón. Allí vivían Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, hijos de Anac. Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes de Zoán en Egipto.

23 A nd they came as far as the valley of Eshcol, and cut down thence a branch with one bunch of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a pole; and of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

Llegaron hasta el arroyo Escol y allí cortaron un sarmiento con un racimo de uvas, el cual llevaron entre dos en un palo, y también granados e higos.

24 T hat place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the grapes which the children of Israel had cut down there.

Y se llamó aquel lugar el valle del Escol, por el racimo que allí cortaron los hijos de Israel.

25 A nd they returned from searching out the land after forty days.

Al cabo de cuarenta días regresaron de reconocer la tierra.

26 A nd they came, and went to Moses and to Aaron, and to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to the whole assembly; and shewed them the fruit of the land.

Fueron y se presentaron ante Moisés, Aarón y toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, en el desierto de Parán, en Cades. Les dieron la información a ellos y a toda la congregación, y les mostraron los frutos de la tierra.

27 A nd they told him, and said, We came to the land to which thou didst send us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

También les contaron: «Nosotros llegamos a la tierra a la cual nos enviaste, la que ciertamente fluye leche y miel; éstos son sus frutos.

28 O nly, the people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, very great; moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

Pero el pueblo que habita aquella tierra es fuerte, y las ciudades muy grandes y fortificadas; también vimos allí a los hijos de Anac.

29 A malek dwells in the land of the south; and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the side of the Jordan.

Amalec habita el Neguev; el heteo, el jebuseo y el amorreo habitan en el monte; el cananeo habita junto al mar y a la ribera del Jordán.»

30 A nd Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up boldly and possess it, for we are well able to do it.

Entonces Caleb hizo callar al pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: —Subamos luego, y tomemos posesión de ella, porque más podremos nosotros que ellos.

31 B ut the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.

Pero los hombres que subieron con él dijeron: —No podemos subir contra aquel pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.

32 A nd they brought to the children of Israel an evil report of the land which they had searched out, saying, The land, which we have passed through to search it out, is a land that eateth up its inhabitants; and all the people that we have seen in it are men of great stature;

Y hablaron mal entre los hijos de Israel de la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: —La tierra que recorrimos y exploramos es tierra que se traga a sus habitantes. Todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella es gente de gran estatura.

33 a nd there have we seen giants—the sons of Anak are of the giants—and we were in our sight as grasshoppers, and so we were also in their sight.

También vimos allí gigantes, hijos de Anac, raza de los gigantes. Nosotros éramos, a nuestro parecer, como langostas, y así les parecíamos a ellos.
