1 A nd the life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years: the years of the life of Sarah.

Fueron ciento veintisiete los años de la vida de Sara; tantos fueron los años de la vida de Sara.

2 A nd Sarah died in Kirjath-Arba: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

Sara murió en Quiriat-arba (que es Hebrón), en la tierra de Canaán; y vino Abraham a hacer duelo por Sara y a llorarla.

3 A nd Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

Luego se levantó Abraham de delante de su muerta y habló a los hijos de Het, diciendo:

4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a sepulchre with you, that I may bury my dead from before me.

—Extranjero y forastero soy entre vosotros; dadme en propiedad una sepultura entre vosotros para llevarme a mi muerta y sepultarla.

5 A nd the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

Respondieron los hijos de Het a Abraham, diciendo:

6 H ear us, my lord: thou art a prince of God among us: in the choicest of our sepulchres bury thy dead: none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre for burying thy dead.

—Óyenos, señor nuestro. Tú eres un príncipe de Dios entre nosotros; sepulta a tu muerta en lo mejor de nuestros sepulcros, pues ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro ni te impedirá que entierres a tu muerta.

7 A nd Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

Abraham se levantó, se inclinó ante el pueblo de aquella tierra, los hijos de Het,

8 a nd spoke to them, saying, If it be your will that I should bury my dead from before me, hear me, and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar,

y habló con ellos, diciendo: —Si en verdad queréis que yo me lleve y sepulte a mi muerta, oídme e interceded por mí ante Efrón hijo de Zohar,

9 t hat he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his, which is at the end of his field; for the full money let him give it to me amongst you for a possession of a sepulchre.

para que me dé la cueva de Macpela, que tiene al extremo de su heredad; que me la dé por su justo precio y así poseeré una sepultura en medio de vosotros.

10 A nd Ephron was dwelling among the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham, in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

Como Efrón, el heteo, estaba entre los hijos de Het, respondió a Abraham en presencia de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad:

11 N o, my lord: hear me. The field give I thee; and the cave that is in it, to thee I give it; before the eyes of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

—No, señor mío, óyeme: te doy la heredad y te doy también la cueva que está en ella. En presencia de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy; sepulta a tu muerta.

12 A nd Abraham bowed down before the people of the land;

Entonces Abraham se inclinó delante del pueblo de la tierra

13 a nd he spoke to Ephron, in the ears of the people of the land, saying, But if only thou wouldst listen to me, I give the money for the field: take of me, and I will bury my dead there.

y respondió a Efrón en presencia del pueblo del lugar, diciendo: —Antes, si te place, te ruego que me oigas. Yo pagaré el precio de la heredad; acéptalo y sepultaré en ella a mi muerta.

14 A nd Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

Respondió Efrón a Abraham:

15 M y lord, hearken to me. A field of four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

—Señor mío, escúchame: la tierra vale cuatrocientos siclos de plata, pero ¿qué es esto entre tú y yo? Entierra, pues, a tu muerta.

16 A nd Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the money that he had named in the ears of the sons of Heth—four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.

Entonces Abraham aceptó la oferta de Efrón y, en presencia de los hijos de Het, pesó a Efrón el dinero que éste le había pedido, cuatrocientos siclos de plata de buena ley entre mercaderes.

17 S o the field of Ephron, which was at Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all its borders round about,

Así, pues, la heredad de Efrón que estaba en Macpela, al oriente de Mamre, la heredad, con la cueva que había en ella y con todos los árboles que había en la heredad y en todos sus contornos,

18 w ere assured to Abraham for a possession before the eyes of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

quedó como propiedad de Abraham, en presencia de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.

19 A nd after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field at Machpelah, opposite to Mamre: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

Después de esto, Abraham sepultó a Sara, su mujer, en la cueva de la heredad de Macpela, al oriente de Mamre (que es Hebrón), en la tierra de Canaán.

20 A nd the field and the cave that was in it were assured to Abraham for a possession of a sepulchre by the sons of Heth.

Y la heredad, con la cueva que en ella había, quedó en manos de Abraham como una posesión para sepultura, recibida de los hijos de Het.
