1 A nd Job answered and said,

Respondió entonces Job diciendo:

2 T ruly ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you!

«Ciertamente vosotros sois el pueblo, y con vosotros morirá la sabiduría.

3 I also have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you; and who knoweth not such things as these?

Pero yo también tengo entendimiento, lo mismo que vosotros; ¡no soy menos que vosotros! ¿Y quién habrá que no pueda decir otro tanto?

4 I am to be one that is a derision to his friend, I who call upon +God, and whom he will answer: a derision is the just upright.

Yo soy uno de quien su amigo se mofa; uno que invoca a Dios, y él le responde; uno justo e íntegro que es escarnecido.

5 H e that is ready to stumble with the foot is a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

Aquel cuyos pies están a punto de resbalar es como una lámpara despreciada por el que se siente seguro.

6 T he tents of desolators are in peace, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand +God bringeth.

Prosperan las casas de los ladrones y viven seguros los que provocan a Dios, que ha puesto en sus manos todo lo que tienen.

7 B ut ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowl of the heavens, and they shall tell thee;

»Pregunta ahora a las bestias y ellas te enseñarán; a las aves de los cielos, y ellas te lo mostrarán;

8 O r speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

o habla a la tierra y ella te enseñará; y los peces del mar te lo declararán también.

9 W ho knoweth not in all these, that the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this?

¿Cuál entre todos ellos no entiende que la mano de Jehová lo hizo?

10 I n whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the spirit of all flesh of man.

En su mano está el alma de todo viviente y el hálito de todo el género humano.

11 D oth not the ear try words, as the palate tasteth food?

»Ciertamente el oído distingue las palabras y el paladar saborea las viandas.

12 W ith the aged is wisdom, and in length of days understanding.

En los ancianos está la ciencia y en la mucha edad la inteligencia.

13 W ith him is wisdom and might; he hath counsel and understanding.

Pero con Dios están la sabiduría y el poder: suyo es el consejo y la inteligencia.

14 B ehold, he breaketh down, and it is not built again; he shutteth up a man, and there is no opening.

Si él derriba, no hay quien edifique; si encierra al hombre, no hay quien le abra.

15 B ehold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up; and he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

Si detiene las aguas, todo se seca; si las suelta, arrasan la tierra.

16 W ith him is strength and effectual knowledge; the deceived and the deceiver are his.

Con él están el poder y la sabiduría; suyos son el que yerra y el que hace errar.

17 H e leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and judges maketh he fools;

Lleva despojados de consejo a los consejeros y entontece a los jueces.

18 H e weakeneth the government of kings, and bindeth their loins with a fetter;

Rompe las cadenas de los tiranos y ata una soga a su cintura.

19 H e leadeth priests away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty;

Lleva despojados a los sacerdotes y trastorna a los poderosos.

20 H e depriveth of speech the trusty, and taketh away the judgment of the elders;

Quita la palabra a los que hablan con seguridad y priva de discernimiento a los ancianos.

21 H e poureth contempt upon nobles, and slackeneth the girdle of the mighty;

Derrama desprecio sobre los príncipes y desata el cinto de los fuertes.

22 H e discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out into light the shadow of death;

Descubre las profundidades de las tinieblas y saca a luz la sombra de muerte.

23 H e increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them; he spreadeth out the nations, and bringeth them in;

Multiplica las naciones y las destruye; las dispersa y las vuelve a reunir.

24 H e taketh away the understanding of the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste.

Quita el entendimiento a los jefes del pueblo de la tierra, los hace vagar como por un desierto en el que no hay camino,

25 T hey grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunkard.

y van a tientas, como en tinieblas, sin luz; y los hace errar como borrachos.
