1 A nd Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

Durmió Josafat con sus padres, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la Ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar Joram, su hijo,

2 A nd he had brethren, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

quien tuvo por hermanos, hijos de Josafat, a Azarías, Jehiel, Zacarías, Azarías, Micael y Sefatías. Todos estos fueron hijos de Josafat, rey de Judá.

3 A nd their father had given them great gifts of silver and of gold and of precious things, besides fortified cities in Judah; but the kingdom he gave to Jehoram, for he was the firstborn.

Su padre les había dado muchos regalos de oro y de plata, cosas preciosas, y ciudades fortificadas en Judá; pero entregó el reino a Joram, porque él era el primogénito.

4 A nd Jehoram established himself over the kingdom of his father, and strengthened himself; and he slew all his brethren with the sword, and also of the princes of Israel.

Fue elevado, pues, Joram al reino de su padre. Luego que se hizo fuerte, mató a espada a todos sus hermanos y también a algunos de los príncipes de Israel.

5 J ehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

Cuando comenzó a reinar tenía treinta y dos años de edad, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén.

6 A nd he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of Jehovah.

Pero anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel, como hizo la casa de Acab, porque tenía por mujer a la hija de Acab, e hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová.

7 B ut Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he had promised to give to him always a lamp, and to his sons.

Pero Jehová no quiso destruir la casa de David, a causa del pacto que había hecho con David, y porque le había dicho que le daría una lámpara a él y a sus hijos perpetuamente.

8 I n his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and they set a king over themselves.

En sus días se rebeló Edom contra el dominio de Judá, y proclamó su propio rey.

9 A nd Jehoram went over with his captains, and all the chariots with him; and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites who had surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots.

Entonces pasó Joram con sus príncipes, y todos sus carros; se levantó de noche y derrotó a los edomitas que le habían sitiado, y a todos los comandantes de sus carros.

10 B ut the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Jehovah the God of his fathers.

No obstante, Edom se libertó del dominio de Judá hasta el día de hoy. Por ese mismo tiempo Libna se libertó también de su dominio, por cuanto Joram había abandonado a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

11 M oreover he made high places on the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah.

Además de esto, construyó lugares altos en los montes de Judá, e incitó a los habitantes de Jerusalén a la prostitución, y empujó a ella a Judá.

12 A nd there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father: Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

Le llegó una carta del profeta Elías que decía: «Jehová, el Dios de tu padre David, ha dicho así: “Por cuanto no has andado en los caminos de Josafat, tu padre, ni en los caminos de Asa, rey de Judá,

13 b ut hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, like the fornications of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren, thy father's house who were better than thyself:

sino que has andado en el camino de los reyes de Israel, y has hecho que Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén forniquen, como fornicó la casa de Acab; y además has dado muerte a tus hermanos, a la familia de tu padre, los cuales eran mejores que tú;

14 b ehold, Jehovah will smite with a great stroke thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance,

Jehová herirá a tu pueblo con una gran plaga, a tus hijos, a tus mujeres y a todo cuanto tienes;

15 a nd thyself with sore sicknesses, with a disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

tú mismo padecerás muchas enfermedades, y una dolencia tal de tus intestinos, que se te saldrán a causa de tu persistente enfermedad.”»

16 A nd Jehovah stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, who near the Ethiopians;

Entonces Jehová despertó contra Joram la ira de los filisteos y de los árabes que estaban junto a los etíopes,

17 a nd they came up into Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was no son left him, except Jehoahaz the youngest of his sons.

que subieron contra Judá, invadieron la tierra y tomaron todos los bienes que hallaron en la casa del rey, a sus hijos y a sus mujeres; y no le quedó más hijo sino solamente Joacaz, el menor de ellos.

18 A nd after all this, Jehovah smote him in his bowels with an incurable sickness.

Después de todo esto, Jehová lo hirió con una enfermedad incurable en los intestinos.

19 A nd it came to pass, from day to day, and at the time when the second year was drawing to a close, that his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died in cruel sufferings. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

Y aconteció que al pasar muchos días, al cabo de dos años, los intestinos se le salieron por la enfermedad, y murió así de enfermedad muy penosa. Y no encendieron fuego en su honor, como lo habían hecho con sus padres.

20 H e was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being regretted. And they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

Cuando comenzó a reinar tenía treinta y dos años de edad, y reinó en Jerusalén durante ocho años. Murió sin que nadie lo llorara y lo sepultaron en la Ciudad de David, pero no en los sepulcros de los reyes.
