1 N ow the passover and the unleavened bread was after two days. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might seize him by subtlety and kill him.

Dos días después era la Pascua y la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura. Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo prenderlo con engaño y matarlo.

2 F or they said, Not in the feast, lest perhaps there be a tumult of the people.

Y decían: «No durante la Fiesta, para que no se alborote el pueblo.» Jesús es ungido en Betania

3 A nd when he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he lay at table, there came a woman having an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly; and having broken the alabaster flask, she poured it out upon his head.

Pero estando él en Betania, sentado a la mesa en casa de Simón el leproso, vino una mujer con un vaso de alabastro de perfume de nardo puro de mucho valor; y quebrando el vaso de alabastro, se lo derramó sobre su cabeza.

4 A nd there were some indignant in themselves, and saying, Why has this waste been made of the ointment?

Entonces algunos se enojaron dentro de sí, y dijeron: —¿Para qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de perfume?,

5 f or this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. And they spoke very angrily at her.

pues podía haberse vendido por más de trescientos denarios y haberse dado a los pobres. Y murmuraban contra ella.

6 B ut Jesus said, Let her alone; why do ye trouble her? she has wrought a good work as to me;

Pero Jesús dijo: —Dejadla, ¿por qué la molestáis? Buena obra me ha hecho.

7 f or ye have the poor always with you, and whenever ye would ye can do them good; but me ye have not always.

Siempre tendréis a los pobres con vosotros y cuando queráis les podréis hacer bien; pero a mí no siempre me tendréis.

8 W hat she could she has done. She has beforehand anointed my body for the burial.

Ésta ha hecho lo que podía, porque se ha anticipado a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura.

9 A nd verily I say unto you, Wheresoever these glad tidings may be preached in the whole world, what this has done shall be also spoken of for a memorial of her.

De cierto os digo que dondequiera que se predique este evangelio, en todo el mundo, también se contará lo que ésta ha hecho, para memoria de ella. Judas ofrece entregar a Jesús

10 A nd Judas Iscariote, one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them;

Entonces Judas Iscariote, uno de los doce, fue a los principales sacerdotes para entregárselo.

11 a nd they, when they heard it, rejoiced, and promised him to give money. And he sought how he could opportunely deliver him up.

Ellos, al oírlo, se alegraron y prometieron darle dinero. Y Judas buscaba oportunidad para entregarlo. Institución de la Cena del Señor

12 A nd the first day of unleavened bread, when they slew the passover, his disciples say to him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?

El primer día de la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, cuando sacrificaban el cordero de la Pascua, sus discípulos le preguntaron: —¿Dónde quieres que vayamos a preparar para que comas la Pascua?

13 A nd he sends two of his disciples, and says to them, Go into the city, and a man shall meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.

Y envió a dos de sus discípulos diciéndoles: —Id a la ciudad, y os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidlo,

14 A nd wheresoever he enters, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says, Where is my guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?

y donde entre decid al señor de la casa: “El Maestro dice: ‘¿Dónde está el aposento donde he de comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?’”

15 a nd he will shew you a large upper room furnished ready. There make ready for us.

Entonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto ya dispuesto. Haced allí los preparativos para nosotros.

16 A nd his disciples went away and came into the city, and found as he had said to them; and they made ready the passover.

Fueron sus discípulos, entraron en la ciudad, hallaron lo que les había dicho y prepararon la Pascua.

17 A nd when evening was come, he comes with the twelve.

Cuando llegó la noche vino él con los doce.

18 A nd as they lay at table and were eating, Jesus said, Verily I say to you, One of you shall deliver me up; he who is eating with me.

Y cuando se sentaron a la mesa, mientras comían, dijo Jesús: —De cierto os digo que uno de vosotros, que come conmigo, me va a entregar.

19 A nd they began to be grieved, and to say to him, one by one, Is it I?

Entonces ellos comenzaron a entristecerse y a decirle uno tras otro: —¿Seré yo? Y el otro: —¿Seré yo?

20 B ut he answered and said to them, One of the twelve, he who dips with me in the dish.

Él, respondiendo, les dijo: —Es uno de los doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato.

21 T he Son of man goes indeed as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is delivered up; good for that man if he had not been born.

A la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, tal como está escrito de él, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del hombre es entregado! Bueno le fuera a ese hombre no haber nacido.

22 A nd as they were eating, Jesus, having taken bread, when he had blessed, broke, and gave to them, and said, Take: this is my body.

Mientras comían, Jesús tomó pan, lo bendijo, lo partió y les dio, diciendo: —Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo.

23 A nd having taken cup, when he had given thanks, he gave to them, and they all drank out of it.

Después tomó la copa y, habiendo dado gracias, les dio y bebieron de ella todos.

24 A nd he said to them, This is my blood, that of the covenant, that shed for many.

Y les dijo: —Esto es mi sangre del nuevo pacto que por muchos es derramada.

25 V erily I say to you, I will no more drink at all of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

De cierto os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta aquel día en que lo beba nuevo en el reino de Dios. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

26 A nd having sung a hymn, they went out to the mount of Olives.

Después de haber cantado el himno, salieron al Monte de los Olivos.

27 A nd Jesus says to them, All ye shall be offended, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: —Todos os escandalizaréis de mí esta noche, pues escrito está: “Heriré al pastor y las ovejas serán dispersadas.”

28 B ut after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

Pero después que haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea.

29 B ut Peter said to him, Even if all should be offended, yet not I.

Entonces Pedro le dijo: —Aunque todos se escandalicen, yo no.

30 A nd Jesus says to him, Verily I say to thee, that thou to-day, in this night, before cock shall crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me.

Y le dijo Jesús: —De cierto te digo que tú hoy, en esta noche, antes que el gallo haya cantado dos veces, me negarás tres veces.

31 B ut he said exceedingly the more, If I should have to die with thee, I will in no wise deny thee. And likewise said they all too.

Pero él con mayor insistencia decía: —Aunque tenga que morir contigo, no te negaré. También todos decían lo mismo. Jesús ora en Getsemaní

32 A nd they come to a place of which the name Gethsemane, and he says to his disciples, Sit here while I shall pray.

Vinieron, pues, a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: —Sentaos aquí, entre tanto que yo oro.

33 A nd he takes with him Peter and James and John, and he began to be amazed and oppressed in spirit.

Se llevó consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo y a Juan, y comenzó a entristecerse y a angustiarse.

34 A nd he says to them, My soul is full of grief even unto death; abide here and watch.

Y les dijo: —Mi alma está muy triste, hasta la muerte; quedaos aquí y velad.

35 A nd, going forward a little, he fell upon the earth; and he prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.

Yéndose un poco adelante, se postró en tierra, y oró que, si fuera posible, pasara de él aquella hora.

36 A nd he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: take away this cup from me; but not what I will, but what thou.

Y decía: «¡Abba, Padre!, todas las cosas son posibles para ti. Aparta de mí esta copa; pero no se haga lo que yo quiero, sino lo que quieres tú.»

37 A nd he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, Simon, dost thou sleep? Hast thou not been able to watch one hour?

Vino luego y los halló durmiendo, y dijo a Pedro: —Simón, ¿duermes? ¿No has podido velar una hora?

38 W atch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed willing, but the flesh weak.

Velad y orad para que no entréis en tentación; el espíritu a la verdad está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil.

39 A nd going away, he prayed again, saying the same thing.

Otra vez fue y oró, diciendo las mismas palabras.

40 A nd returning, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what they should answer him.

Al volver, otra vez los halló durmiendo, porque los ojos de ellos estaban cargados de sueño; y no sabían qué responderle.

41 A nd he comes the third time and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.

Vino la tercera vez, y les dijo: —¡Dormid ya y descansad! ¡Basta, la hora ha llegado! He aquí, el Hijo del hombre es entregado en manos de los pecadores.

42 A rise, let us go; behold, he that delivers me up has drawn nigh.

»¡Levantaos! ¡Vamos! Ya se acerca el que me entrega. Arresto de Jesús

43 A nd immediately, while he was yet speaking, Judas comes up, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Aún estaba él hablando cuando vino Judas, que era uno de los doce, y con él mucha gente con espadas y palos, de parte de los principales sacerdotes, de los escribas y de los ancianos.

44 N ow he that delivered him up had given them a sign between them, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; seize him, and lead away safely.

El que lo entregaba les había dado señal, diciendo: «Al que yo bese, ése es. Prendedlo y llevadlo con seguridad.»

45 A nd being come, straightway coming up to him, he says, Rabbi, Rabbi; and he covered him with kisses.

Cuando vino, se acercó luego a él y le dijo: —¡Maestro! ¡Maestro! Y lo besó.

46 A nd they laid their hands upon him and seized him.

Entonces ellos le echaron mano y lo prendieron.

47 B ut a certain one of those who stood by, having drawn his sword, struck the bondman of the high priest, and took off his ear.

Pero uno de los que estaban allí, sacando la espada, hirió al siervo del Sumo sacerdote y le cortó la oreja.

48 A nd Jesus answering said to them, Are ye come out as against a robber, with swords and sticks to take me?

Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y con palos para prenderme?

49 I was daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye did not seize me; but that the scriptures may be fulfilled.

Cada día estaba con vosotros enseñando en el Templo y no me prendisteis; pero así es, para que se cumplan las Escrituras.

50 A nd all left him and fled.

Entonces todos los discípulos, dejándolo, huyeron. El joven que huyó

51 A nd a certain young man followed him with a linen cloth cast about his naked; and seize him;

Pero cierto joven lo seguía, cubierto el cuerpo con una sábana. Lo prendieron,

52 b ut he, leaving the linen cloth behind, fled from them naked.

pero él, dejando la sábana, huyó desnudo. Jesús ante el Concilio

53 A nd they led away Jesus to the high priest. And there come together to him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

Trajeron, pues, a Jesús ante el sumo sacerdote; y se reunieron todos los principales sacerdotes, los ancianos y los escribas.

54 A nd Peter followed him at a distance, till within the court of the high priest's palace; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself in the light.

Pedro lo siguió de lejos hasta dentro del patio del Sumo sacerdote; y estaba sentado con los guardias, calentándose al fuego.

55 A nd the chief priests and the whole sanhedrim sought testimony against Jesus to cause him to be put to death, and did not find.

Los principales sacerdotes y todo el Concilio buscaban testimonio contra Jesús para entregarlo a la muerte, pero no lo hallaban,

56 F or many bore false witness against him, and their testimony did not agree.

porque muchos daban falso testimonio contra él, pero sus testimonios no concordaban.

57 A nd certain persons rose up and bore false witness against him, saying,

Entonces, levantándose unos, dieron falso testimonio contra él, diciendo:

58 W e heard him saying, I will destroy this temple which is made with hands, and in the course of three days I will build another not made with hands.

—Nosotros lo hemos oído decir: “Yo derribaré este templo hecho a mano, y en tres días edificaré otro no hecho a mano.”

59 A nd neither thus did their testimony agree.

Pero ni aun así concordaban en el testimonio.

60 A nd the high priest, rising up before them all, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What do these testify against thee?

Entonces el sumo sacerdote, levantándose en medio, preguntó a Jesús, diciendo: —¿No respondes nada? ¿Qué testifican estos contra ti?

61 B ut he was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and says to him, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

Pero él callaba y nada respondía. El Sumo sacerdote le volvió a preguntar: —¿Eres tú el Cristo, el Hijo del Bendito?

62 A nd Jesus said, I am, and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

Jesús le dijo: —Yo soy. Y veréis al Hijo del hombre sentado a la diestra del poder de Dios y viniendo en las nubes del cielo.

63 A nd the high priest, having rent his clothes, says, What need have we any more of witnesses?

Entonces el Sumo sacerdote, rasgando su vestidura, dijo: —¿Qué más necesidad tenemos de testigos?

64 Y e have heard the blasphemy; what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

Habéis oído la blasfemia; ¿qué os parece? Y todos ellos lo condenaron, declarándolo digno de muerte.

65 A nd some began to spit upon him, and cover up his face, and buffet him, and say to him, Prophesy; and the officers struck him with the palms of their hands.

Entonces algunos comenzaron a escupirlo, a cubrirle el rostro, a darle puñetazos y a decirle: «¡Profetiza!» También los guardias le daban bofetadas. Pedro niega a Jesús

66 A nd Peter being below in the palace-court, there comes one of the maids of the high priest,

Estando Pedro abajo, en el patio, vino una de las criadas del Sumo sacerdote,

67 a nd seeing Peter warming himself, having looked at him, says, And thou wast with the Nazarene, Jesus.

y cuando vio a Pedro que se calentaba, mirándolo, le dijo: —Tú también estabas con Jesús, el nazareno.

68 B ut he denied, saying, I know not nor understand what thou sayest. And he went out into the vestibule; and a cock crew.

Pero él negó, diciendo: —No lo conozco, ni sé lo que dices. Y salió a la entrada, y cantó el gallo.

69 A nd the maid, seeing him, again began to say to those that stood by, This is of them.

La criada, viéndolo otra vez, comenzó a decir a los que estaban allí: —Éste es uno de ellos.

70 A nd he again denied. And again, after a little, those that stood by said to Peter, Truly thou art of them, for also thou art a Galilean.

Pero él volvió a negarlo. Poco después, los que estaban allí dijeron otra vez a Pedro: —Verdaderamente tú eres de ellos, porque eres galileo y tu manera de hablar es semejante a la de ellos.

71 B ut he began to curse and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

Entonces él comenzó a maldecir y a jurar: —¡No conozco a este hombre de quien habláis!

72 A nd the second time a cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice; and when he thought thereon he wept.

Y el gallo cantó la segunda vez. Entonces Pedro se acordó de las palabras que Jesús le había dicho: «Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces.» Y pensando en esto, lloraba.
