1 A fter these things the word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, thy exceeding great reward.

Después de estas cosas vino la palabra de Jehová a Abram en visión, diciendo: —No temas, Abram, yo soy tu escudo, y tu recompensa será muy grande.

2 A nd Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me? seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.

Respondió Abram: —Señor Jehová, ¿qué me darás, si no me has dado hijos y el mayordomo de mi casa es ese Eliezer, el damasceno?

3 A nd Abram said, Lo, to me thou hast given no seed, and behold, a son of my house will be mine heir.

Dijo también Abram: —Como no me has dado prole, mi heredero será un esclavo nacido en mi casa.

4 A nd behold, the word of Jehovah to him, saying, This shall not be thine heir, but he that will come forth out of thy body shall be thine heir.

Luego vino a él palabra de Jehová, diciendo: —No te heredará éste, sino que un hijo tuyo será el que te herede.

5 A nd he led him out, and said, Look now toward the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said to him, So shall thy seed be!

Entonces lo llevó fuera y le dijo: —Mira ahora los cielos y cuenta las estrellas, si es que las puedes contar. Y añadió: —Así será tu descendencia.

6 A nd he believed Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him righteousness.

Abram creyó a Jehová y le fue contado por justicia.

7 A nd he said to him, I am Jehovah who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to possess it.

Jehová le dijo: —Yo soy Jehová, que te saqué de Ur de los caldeos para darte a heredar esta tierra.

8 A nd he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall possess it?

Abram respondió: —Señor Jehová, ¿en qué conoceré que la he de heredar?

9 A nd he said to him, Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.

Jehová le dijo: —Tráeme una becerra de tres años, una cabra de tres años y un carnero de tres años; y una tórtola y un palomino.

10 A nd he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the half of each opposite its fellow; but the birds he did not divide.

Tomó Abram todos estos animales, los partió por la mitad y puso cada mitad enfrente de la otra; pero no partió las aves.

11 A nd the birds of prey came down on the carcases; and Abram scared them away.

Y descendían aves de rapiña sobre los cuerpos muertos, pero Abram las ahuyentaba.

12 A nd as the sun was just going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, a horror, a great darkness, fell upon him.

A la caída del sol cayó sobre Abram un profundo sopor, y el temor de una gran oscuridad cayó sobre él.

13 A nd he said to Abram, Know assuredly that thy seed will be a sojourner in a land not theirs, and they shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.

Entonces Jehová le dijo: —Ten por cierto que tu descendencia habitará en tierra ajena, será esclava allí y será oprimida cuatrocientos años.

14 B ut also that nation which they shall serve I will judge; and afterwards they shall come out with great property.

Pero también a la nación a la cual servirán juzgaré yo; y después de esto saldrán con gran riqueza.

15 A nd thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

Tú, en tanto, te reunirás en paz con tus padres y serás sepultado en buena vejez.

16 A nd fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

Y tus descendientes volverán acá en la cuarta generación, porque hasta entonces no habrá llegado a su colmo la maldad del amorreo.

17 A nd it came to pass when the sun had gone down, and it was dark, that behold, there was a smoking furnace, and a flame of fire which passed between those pieces.

Cuando se puso el sol y todo estaba oscuro, apareció un horno humeante y una antorcha de fuego que pasaba por entre los animales divididos.

18 O n the same day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates;

Aquel día hizo Jehová un pacto con Abram, diciendo: —A tu descendencia daré esta tierra, desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el Éufrates:

19 t he Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

la tierra de los ceneos, los cenezeos, los cadmoneos,

20 a nd the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim,

los heteos, los ferezeos, los refaítas,

21 a nd the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

los amorreos, los cananeos, los gergeseos y los jebuseos.
