1 A nd Hannah prayed, and said, My heart exulteth in Jehovah, my horn is lifted up in Jehovah; my mouth is opened wide over mine enemies; for I rejoice in thy salvation.

Entonces Ana oró y dijo: «Mi corazón se regocija en Jehová, mi poder se exalta en Jehová; mi boca se ríe de mis enemigos, por cuanto me alegré en tu salvación.

2 T here is none holy as Jehovah, for there is none beside thee, neither is there any rock like our God.

No hay santo como Jehová; porque no hay nadie fuera de ti ni refugio como el Dios nuestro.

3 D o not multiply your words of pride, let not vain-glory come out of your mouth; For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

No multipliquéis las palabras de orgullo y altanería; cesen las palabras arrogantes de vuestra boca, porque Jehová es el Dios que todo lo sabe y a él le toca pesar las acciones.

4 T he bow of the mighty is broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

Los arcos de los fuertes se han quebrado y los débiles se ciñen de vigor.

5 T hey that were full have hired themselves out for bread; and the hungry are no more: Even the barren beareth seven, and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

Los saciados se alquilan por pan y los hambrientos dejan de tener hambre; hasta la estéril da a luz siete veces, mas la que tenía muchos hijos languidece.

6 J ehovah killeth, and maketh alive; he bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.

Jehová da la muerte y la vida; hace descender al seol y retornar.

7 J ehovah maketh poor, and maketh rich, he bringeth low, also he lifteth up:

Jehová empobrece y enriquece, abate y enaltece.

8 H e raiseth up the poor out of the dust; from the dung-hill he lifteth up the needy, To set among nobles; and he maketh them inherit a throne of glory; For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's, and he hath set the world upon them.

Él levanta del polvo al pobre; alza del basurero al menesteroso, para hacerlo sentar con príncipes y heredar un sitio de honor. Porque de Jehová son las columnas de la tierra; él afirmó sobre ellas el mundo.

9 H e keepeth the feet of his saints, but the wicked are silenced in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

Él guarda los pies de sus santos, mas los impíos perecen en tinieblas; porque nadie será fuerte por su propia fuerza.

10 T hey that strive with Jehovah shall be broken to pieces; in the heavens will he thunder upon them. Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth; and he will give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

Delante de Jehová serán quebrantados sus adversarios y sobre ellos tronará desde los cielos. Jehová juzgará los confines de la tierra, dará poder a su Rey y exaltará el poderío de su Ungido.»

11 A nd Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the boy ministered to Jehovah in the presence of Eli the priest.

Luego Elcana regresó a su casa en Ramá, y el niño se quedó para servir a Jehová junto al sacerdote Elí. Impiedad de los hijos de Elí

12 N ow the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not Jehovah.

Los hijos de Elí eran hombres impíos, que no tenían conocimiento de Jehová.

13 A nd the priests' custom with the people was, when any man sacrificed a sacrifice, the priest's servant came, when the flesh was cooked, with a flesh-hook of three prongs in his hand;

Y era costumbre de los sacerdotes con el pueblo, que cuando alguien ofrecía sacrificio, mientras se cocía la carne, venía el criado del sacerdote trayendo en su mano un garfio de tres dientes

14 a nd he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot; the priest took of it all that the flesh-hook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites that came there.

y lo metía en el perol, en la olla, en el caldero o en la marmita; y todo lo que sacaba el garfio, el sacerdote lo tomaba para sí. De esta manera hacían con todo israelita que venía a Silo.

15 E ven before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he will not accept sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

Asimismo, antes de quemar la grasa, venía el criado del sacerdote y decía al que sacrificaba: «Dame carne para asársela al sacerdote; porque no aceptará de ti carne cocida sino cruda.»

16 I f the man said to him, They will immediately burn the fat entire, then take as thy soul desires; he would say, No, but thou shalt give now; and if not, I will take by force.

Y si el hombre le respondía: «Hay que quemar la grasa primero, y después toma tanto como quieras», él decía: «No, dámela ahora mismo; de otra manera la tomaré por la fuerza.»

17 A nd the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah, for men despised the offering of Jehovah.

Así pues, el pecado de estos ayudantes era muy grande ante Jehová, porque menospreciaban las ofrendas de Jehová.

18 A nd Samuel ministered before Jehovah, a boy girded with a linen ephod.

Y el joven Samuel servía en la presencia de Jehová, vestido de un efod de lino.

19 A nd his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to sacrifice the yearly sacrifice.

Su madre le hacía una pequeña túnica y se la traía cada año, cuando subía con su marido para ofrecer el sacrificio acostumbrado.

20 A nd Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, Jehovah give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to Jehovah. And they went to their own home.

Entonces Elí bendecía a Elcana y a su mujer diciendo: «Jehová te dé hijos de esta mujer en lugar del que pidió a Jehová.» Luego regresaban a su casa.

21 S o Jehovah visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before Jehovah.

Visitó Jehová a Ana y ella concibió; y dio a luz tres hijos y dos hijas. Y el joven Samuel crecía delante de Jehová.

22 A nd Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and that they lay with the women that served at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

Elí era muy viejo, pero cuando supo lo que sus hijos hacían con todo Israel y cómo dormían con las mujeres que velaban a la puerta del Tabernáculo de reunión,

23 A nd he said to them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil deeds from all this people.

les dijo: «¿Por qué hacéis cosas semejantes? Oigo hablar a todo este pueblo vuestro mal proceder.

24 N o, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear: ye make Jehovah's people transgress.

No, hijos míos, porque no es buena fama la que yo oigo, pues hacéis pecar al pueblo de Jehová.

25 I f one man sin against another, God will judge him; but if a man sin against Jehovah, who shall intreat for him? But they hearkened not to the voice of their father, for Jehovah was minded to slay them.

Si peca el hombre contra el hombre, los jueces lo juzgarán; pero si alguno peca contra Jehová, ¿quién rogará por él?» Pero ellos no oyeron la voz de su padre, porque Jehová había resuelto hacerlos morir.

26 A nd the boy Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with Jehovah and also with men.

Mientras tanto, el joven Samuel iba creciendo y haciéndose grato delante de Dios y delante de los hombres.

27 A nd there came a man of God to Eli and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Did I plainly reveal myself to the house of thy father when they were in Egypt, in Pharaoh's house,

Vino un varón de Dios ante Elí, y le dijo: «Así ha dicho Jehová: “¿No me manifesté yo claramente a la casa de tu padre cuando estaban en Egipto en la casa del faraón?

28 a nd choose him out of all the tribes of Israel, to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear the ephod before me? and I gave unto the house of thy father all the offerings by fire of the children of Israel.

Lo escogí para que fuera mi sacerdote entre todas las tribus de Israel, para que ofreciera sobre mi altar, quemara incienso y llevara efod delante de mí. Yo concedí a la casa de tu padre todas las ofrendas de los hijos de Israel.

29 W herefore do ye trample upon my sacrifice and upon mine oblation which I have commanded habitation? And thou honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the primest of all the oblations of Israel my people.

¿Por qué habéis pisoteado los sacrificios y las ofrendas que yo mandé ofrecer en el Tabernáculo? ¿Por qué has honrado a tus hijos más que a mí, haciéndolos engordar con lo principal de todas las ofrendas de mi pueblo Israel?”

30 W herefore Jehovah the God of Israel saith, I said indeed, Thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever. But now Jehovah saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Por eso Jehová, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Yo había prometido que tu casa y la casa de tu padre andarían siempre delante de mí”; pero ahora ha dicho Jehová: “Nunca haga yo tal cosa, porque yo honro a los que me honran, y los que me desprecian serán tenidos en poco.

31 B ehold, days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thy house.

Vienen días en que cortaré tu brazo y el brazo de la casa de tu padre, de modo que no haya ancianos en tu casa.

32 A nd thou shalt see an oppressor habitation, amidst all the good that shall be done to Israel; and there shall not be an old man in thy house for ever.

Verás tu casa humillada, mientras Dios colma de bienes a Israel, de manera que nunca habrá ancianos en tu casa.

33 A nd the man of thine I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to cause thine eyes to fail and to grieve thy soul; and all the increase of thy house shall die in their vigour.

Aquel de los tuyos a quien yo no excluya del servicio de mi altar, será para que se consuman tus ojos y se llene tu alma de dolor; y todos los nacidos en tu casa morirán en la plenitud de la edad.

34 A nd this shall be the sign to thee, which shall come upon thy two sons, upon Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die, both of them.

Te será por señal esto que acontecerá a tus dos hijos, Ofni y Finees: ambos morirán el mismo día.

35 A nd I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind; and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed continually.

En cambio, yo me suscitaré un sacerdote fiel, que obre conforme a mi corazón y mis deseos; le edificaré casa firme y andará delante de mi ungido todos los días.

36 A nd it shall come to pass every one that is left of thy house shall come to crouch to him for a small piece of silver and for a cake of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priestly offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.

El que haya quedado en tu casa vendrá a postrarse delante de él por una moneda de plata y un bocado de pan, y le dirá: ‘Te ruego que me agregues a alguno de los servicios sacerdotales para que pueda comer un bocado de pan.’”»
