1 M bas kësaj, Davidi u këshillua me Zotin, duke thënë: "A duhet të shkoj në ndonjë nga qytetet e Judës?". Zoti iu përgjigj: "Shko". Davidi e pyeti: "Ku të shkoj?". Zoti u përgjigj: "Në Hebron".

It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”

2 K ështu Davidi shkoi atje me dy gratë e tij, Jezreeliten Ahinoam dhe Karmelitën Abigail, që kishte qenë gruaja e Nabalit.

So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

3 D avidi çoi edhe njerëzit që ishin me të, secili me familjen e tij, dhe u vendosën në qytetet e Hebronit.

And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

4 P astaj erdhën njerëzit e Judës dhe e vajosën Davidin mbret të shtëpisë së Judës. Pas kësaj i thanë Davidit se qenë njerëzit e Jabeshit të Galaadit ata që kishin varrosur Saulin.

Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

5 A tëherë Davidi u dërgoi lajmëtarë njerëzve të Jabeshit të Galaadit për t’u thënë: "Qofshi të bekuar nga Zoti për mirësinë që treguat ndaj Saulit, zotërisë suaj, duke e varrosur!

So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.

6 T ani Zoti tregoftë mirësi dhe besnikëri ndaj jush. Edhe unë do t’ju bëj të mirë, sepse keni bërë një gjë të tillë.

And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.

7 P randaj le të marrin forcë duart tuaja dhe qofshi trima, sepse Sauli, zotëria juaj, vdiq, por shtëpia e Judës më ka vajosur mbret të saj".

Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.” Ishbosheth Made King of Israel

8 N dërkohë Abneri, bir i Nerit, komandant i ushtrisë së Saulit, mori Ish-Boshethin, birin e Saulit, dhe e çoi në Mahanaim;

But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim;

9 d he e bëri mbret të Galaadit, të Ashuritëve, të Jezreelit, të Efraimit, të Beniaminit dhe të tërë Izraelit.

and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

10 I sh-Boshethi, bir i Saulit, ishte dyzet vjeç kur filloi të mbretërojë mbi Izrael dhe mbretërimi i tij vazhdoi dy vjet. Por shtëpia e Judës shkonte pas Davidit.

Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. Only the house of Judah followed David.

11 K oha që Davidi mbretëroi në Hebron mbi shtëpinë e Judës ishte shtatë vjet e gjashtë muaj.

And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months. Israel and Judah at War

12 N dërkaq Abneri, bir i Nerit, dhe shërbëtorët e Ish-Boshethit, birit të Saulit, lëvizën nga Mahanaim në drejtim të Gabaonit.

Now Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13 E dhe Joabi, biri i Tserujahut dhe shërbëtorët e Davidit lëvizën dhe i takuan pranë hauzit të Gabaonit. Kështu u ndalën njera palë nga njera anë e hauzit dhe tjetra nga ana tjetër.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool.

14 A tëherë Abneri i tha Joabit: "Le të çohen të rinjtë dhe të dalin para nesh". Joabi u përgjigj: "Po, le të çohen".

Then Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men now arise and compete before us.” And Joab said, “Let them arise.”

15 K ështu u ngritën dhe dolën përpara në numër të barabartë: dymbëdhjetë për Beniaminin dhe për Ish-Boshethin, birin e Saulit, dhe dymbëdhjetë nga shërbëtorët e Davidit.

So they arose and went over by number, twelve from Benjamin, followers of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve from the servants of David.

16 S ecili kapi kundërshtarin e tij nga koka dhe i futi shpatën në ije; kështu ranë të gjithë bashkë. Ky vend u quajt për këtë arësye fusha e njerëzve të fortë; gjendet në Gabaon.

And each one grasped his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent’s side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called the Field of Sharp Swords, which is in Gibeon.

17 P o atë ditë u zhvillua një betejë shumë e ashpër në të cilën Abneri me njerëzit e Izraelit u mund nga shërbëtorët e Davidit.

So there was a very fierce battle that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David.

18 D he aty ishin tre djemtë e Tserujahut: Joabi, Abishai dhe Asaheli; dhe Asaheli ishte i shpejtë si një gazelë fushe.

Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle.

19 A saheli filloi të ndiqte Abnderin pa u kthyer as djathtas, as majtas pas Abnerit.

So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner.

20 P astaj Abneri u kthye prapa dhe tha: "Je ti, Asahel?". Ai u përgjigj: Jam unëë".

Then Abner looked behind him and said, “ Are you Asahel?” He answered, “I am. ”

21 A bneri i tha: "Kthehu djathtas ose majtas, kap një nga të rinjtë dhe merrja armët!". Por Asaheli nuk deshi të hiqte dorë nga ndjekja e tij.

And Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself.” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.

22 A bneri i tha përsëri Asahelit: "Hiq dorë nga ndjekja. Pse më detyron të të shtrij për tokë? Si do të mund ta shikoj atëherë në fytyrë vëllanë tënd Joab?".

So Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I face your brother Joab?”

23 P or ai nuk pranoi të ndërrojë rrugë; prandaj Abneri me pjesën e prasme të shtizës e goditi në pjesën e poshtme të barkut dhe shtiza i doli nga pas; ai ra për tokë dhe vdiq në vend; dhe tërë ata që kalonin nga vendi ku Asaheli kishte rënë dhe kishte vdekur ndaleshin.

However, he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear, so that the spear came out of his back; and he fell down there and died on the spot. So it was that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died, stood still.

24 P or Joabi dhe Abishai e ndoqën Abnerin; kur perëndoi dielli ata arritën në qafën e Amahut, që ndodhet përballë Giahut, në rrugën e shkretëtirës së Gabaonit.

Joab and Abishai also pursued Abner. And the sun was going down when they came to the hill of Ammah, which is before Giah by the road to the Wilderness of Gibeon.

25 B ijtë e Beniamnit u mblodhën pas duke formuar një grup të vetëm dhe u ndalën në majë të një kodre.

Now the children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became a unit, and took their stand on top of a hill.

26 A tëherë Abneri thirri Joabin dhe tha: "Shpata, vallë duhet të gllabërojë gjithnjë? Nuk e di ti që në fund do të ketë hidhërim? Vallë, kur do ta urdhërosh popullin të mos ndjekë më vëllezërit e tij?".

Then Abner called to Joab and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren?”

27 J oabi u përgjigj: "Ashtu siç është e vërtetë që Perëndia jeton, po të mos kishe folur ti, populli nuk do të kishte hequr dorë nga ndjekja e vëllezërve të tij deri në mëngjes".

And Joab said, “ As God lives, unless you had spoken, surely then by morning all the people would have given up pursuing their brethren.”

28 A tëherë Joabi i ra borisë dhe tërë populli u ndal, nuk e ndoqi më Izraelin dhe hoqi dorë nga luftimi.

So Joab blew a trumpet; and all the people stood still and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore.

29 A bneri dhe njerëzit e tij ecën gjithë atë natë nëpër Abrahun, kapërcyen Jordanin, kaluan tërë Bithronin dhe arritën në Mahanaim.

Then Abner and his men went on all that night through the plain, crossed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron; and they came to Mahanaim.

30 E dhe Joabi u kthye nga ndjekja e shërbëtorëve të Abnerit dhe mblodhi tërë popullin; Davidit i mungonin nëntëmbëdhjetë veta dhe Asaheli.

So Joab returned from pursuing Abner. And when he had gathered all the people together, there were missing of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.

31 P or shërbëtorët e Davidit kishin vrarë treqind e gjashtëdhjetë veta të Beniaminit dhe Abnerit.

But the servants of David had struck down, of Benjamin and Abner’s men, three hundred and sixty men who died.

32 P astaj çuan Asahelin dhe e varrosën në varrin e atit të tij, që ndodhet në Betlem. Pas kësaj Joabi dhe njerëzit e tij ecën tërë natën dhe arritën në Hebron në të gdhirë.

Then they took up Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at daybreak.
