4 I t is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

“Não convém aos reis, ó Lemuel; não convém aos reis beber vinho, não convém aos governantes desejar bebida fermentada,

5 l est they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

para não suceder que bebam e se esqueçam do que a lei determina, e deixem de fazer justiça aos oprimidos.

6 G ive strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

Dê bebida fermentada aos que estão prestes a morrer, vinho aos que estão angustiados;

7 L et him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

para que bebam e se esqueçam da sua pobreza, e não mais se lembrem da sua infelicidade.

8 O pen thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

“Erga a voz em favor dos que não podem defender-se, seja o defensor de todos os desamparados.

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Erga a voz e julgue com justiça; defenda os direitos dos pobres e dos necessitados”. Epílogo: A Mulher Exemplar

10 W ho can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Uma esposa exemplar; feliz quem a encontrar! É muito mais valiosa que os rubis.

11 T he heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Seu marido tem plena confiança nela e nunca lhe falta coisa alguma.

12 S he will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Ela só lhe faz o bem, e nunca o mal, todos os dias da sua vida.

13 S he seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

Escolhe a lã e o linho e com prazer trabalha com as mãos.

14 S he is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Como os navios mercantes, ela traz de longe as suas provisões.

15 S he riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Antes de clarear o dia ela se levanta, prepara comida para todos os de casa, e dá tarefas às suas servas.

16 S he considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Ela avalia um campo e o compra; com o que ganha planta uma vinha.

17 S he girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Entrega-se com vontade ao seu trabalho; seus braços são fortes e vigorosos.

18 S he perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

Administra bem o seu comércio lucrativo, e a sua lâmpada fica acesa durante a noite.

19 S he layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

Nas mãos segura o fuso e com os dedos pega a roca.

20 S he stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Acolhe os necessitados e estende as mãos aos pobres.

21 S he is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Não teme por seus familiares quando chega a neve, pois todos eles vestem agasalhos.

22 S he maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

Faz cobertas para a sua cama; veste-se de linho fino e de púrpura.

23 H er husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Seu marido é respeitado na porta da cidade, onde toma assento entre as autoridades da sua terra.

24 S he maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Ela faz vestes de linho e as vende, e fornece cintos aos comerciantes.

25 S trength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

Reveste-se de força e dignidade; sorri diante do futuro.

26 S he openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Fala com sabedoria e ensina com amor.

27 S he looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Cuida dos negócios de sua casa e não dá lugar à preguiça.

28 H er children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Seus filhos se levantam e a elogiam; seu marido também a elogia, dizendo:

29 M any daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

“Muitas mulheres são exemplares, mas você a todas supera”.

30 F avour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

A beleza é enganosa, e a formosura é passageira; mas a mulher que teme o Senhor será elogiada.

31 G ive her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Que ela receba a recompensa merecida, e as suas obras sejam elogiadas à porta da cidade.
