1 B e ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Portanto, sejam imitadores de Deus, como filhos amados,

2 a nd walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

e vivam em amor, como também Cristo nos amou e se entregou por nós como oferta e sacrifício de aroma agradável a Deus.

3 B ut fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Entre vocês não deve haver nem sequer menção de imoralidade sexual como também de nenhuma espécie de impureza e de cobiça; pois essas coisas não são próprias para os santos.

4 n either filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Não haja obscenidade, nem conversas tolas, nem gracejos imorais, que são inconvenientes, mas, ao invés disso, ações de graças.

5 F or this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Porque vocês podem estar certos disto: nenhum imoral, ou impuro, ou ganancioso, que é idólatra, tem herança no Reino de Cristo e de Deus.

6 L et no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Ninguém os engane com palavras tolas, pois é por causa dessas coisas que a ira de Deus vem sobre os que vivem na desobediência.

7 B e not ye therefore partakers with them.

Portanto, não participem com eles dessas coisas.

8 F or ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Porque outrora vocês eram trevas, mas agora são luz no Senhor. Vivam como filhos da luz,

9 ( for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

pois o fruto da luz consiste em toda bondade, justiça e verdade;

10 p roving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

e aprendam a discernir o que é agradável ao Senhor.

11 A nd have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Não participem das obras infrutíferas das trevas; antes, exponham-nas à luz.

12 F or it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Porque aquilo que eles fazem em oculto, até mencionar é vergonhoso.

13 B ut all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Mas, tudo o que é exposto pela luz torna-se visível, pois a luz torna visíveis todas as coisas.

14 W herefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Por isso é que foi dito: “Desperta, ó tu que dormes, levanta-te dentre os mortos e Cristo resplandecerá sobre ti”. Vida em Comunidade

15 S ee then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Tenham cuidado com a maneira como vocês vivem; que não seja como insensatos, mas como sábios,

16 r edeeming the time, because the days are evil.

aproveitando ao máximo cada oportunidade, porque os dias são maus.

17 W herefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Portanto, não sejam insensatos, mas procurem compreender qual é a vontade do Senhor.

18 A nd be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Não se embriaguem com vinho, que leva à libertinagem, mas deixem-se encher pelo Espírito,

19 s peaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

falando entre si com salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais, cantando e louvando de coração ao Senhor,

20 g iving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

dando graças constantemente a Deus Pai por todas as coisas, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

21 s ubmitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Sujeitem-se uns aos outros, por temor a Cristo. Deveres Conjugais

22 W ives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Mulheres, sujeite-se cada uma a seu marido, como ao Senhor,

23 F or the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

pois o marido é o cabeça da mulher, como também Cristo é o cabeça da igreja, que é o seu corpo, do qual ele é o Salvador.

24 T herefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Assim como a igreja está sujeita a Cristo, também as mulheres estejam em tudo sujeitas a seus maridos.

25 H usbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Maridos, ame cada um a sua mulher, assim como Cristo amou a igreja e entregou-se por ela

26 t hat he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

para santificá-la, tendo-a purificado pelo lavar da água mediante a palavra,

27 t hat he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

e para apresentá-la a si mesmo como igreja gloriosa, sem mancha nem ruga ou coisa semelhante, mas santa e inculpável.

28 S o ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Da mesma forma, os maridos devem amar cada um a sua mulher como a seu próprio corpo. Quem ama sua mulher, ama a si mesmo.

29 F or no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Além do mais, ninguém jamais odiou o seu próprio corpo, antes o alimenta e dele cuida, como também Cristo faz com a igreja,

30 f or we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

pois somos membros do seu corpo.

31 F or this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

“Por essa razão, o homem deixará pai e mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, e os dois se tornarão uma só carne.”

32 T his is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Este é um mistério profundo; refiro-me, porém, a Cristo e à igreja.

33 N evertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Portanto, cada um de vocês também ame a sua mulher como a si mesmo, e a mulher trate o marido com todo o respeito.
